i've been trying to find a way for the health app to display calories burned like the actual Fitbit device does. Even after trying every free health app in the app store and giving it permission to read and write to it, I still can't get it to work. That's where Fitbit has Apple beat. It just tells you 4 things, steps taken, distance traveled, calories burned and time of day. One would think that the health app would just do that much all by itself.

MapMyWalk also tells you calories burned during your walk. The app is free. It also maps your route, gives distance and time and stats per mile.

I'm sticking with Fitbit. It is less buggy than health and integrated perfectly with MFP. The health app isn't quite there yet.

Anyone use the Health app?

Does it push that info to the health app?

They just did an update for that purpose. But the health app already handles distance and steps on its own. I don't really pay attention to the other details. I didn't really notice any change after they updated MapMyWalk to make it work with the Health app. But probably because I use it in only the most cursory way.

I do use it. I have several services attached already to push data to Health. In my opinion, the app's problem is with the graphs/charts. They're just not user friendly to sort through, so if I want to look at weight loss over a specific time period and get involved data, I am still going to go to my Withings app. If I want to see calorie intake compared to my goal, I am going to use MyFitnessPal. And so on...

It's not bad for a first try, though. After the first few days of errors with duplicated data or failures to push/pull data properly, so far it has been working well (knock on wood).

In it's current format it's inconsistent with when/if it syncs data from other apps. And honestly I don't see what it does other apps I have do more efficiently/effectively.

Agree. I was excited when I read about the Health app but then realized that it basically does what My Fitness Pal already does. It might be useful for people who use muliple apps but I basically use Runkeeper and MFP and Runkeeper syncs to MFP so its a moot point for me.

I have it linked to Strava...now I just need to get out and bike some more :)

Hi chezhoy, I have installed Strava on my Iphone5s, but I can't link with Ihealth. I don't see any link on this app.

I usually update my sesions with a TomTom multisport and I can see my workouts on Iphone.

Too I have MySports installed, but there isn't any link with Ihealth.

Must I activated any in Strava APP?

I just don't understand why the iPhone 6 itself can't track calories burned and why some 3rd party app has to do it. The Fitbit has no problem doing that.

Btw, I never did actually get a 3rd party app to push that info to the Health app. I just gave up. And besides from what I can tell, that 3rd party app has to be open to do which probably means some sort of battery drain.

I suppose it could but the health app is more a way to tie in external apps to a central location than to have all the functions built into itself. At least that's what it looks like to me. Since it's still very new it has a long way to go before they get the bugs out of it and it does what it was intended to do.

MyFitnessPal and Human work amazingly for me. I can see intake and output of calories which I can see at a glance when in HealthKit! I'm still disappointed in Nike's lack of integration. Human has almost rendered my fuelband pointless now since it provides caloric burn and HealthKit automatically writes that into MyFitnessPal for me.

So in order to actually see calories burned when in Heathkit, do you have to add your daily intake into one of these 3rd party apps or do they just look at the steps taken and use that to figure it out? The great thing about having a Fitbit was that it just did that automatically ... you got steps taken, distance traveled and calories burned without any input. Having to manually put in calories every day seems unnecessary to me.

I don't use it. So does it just collect info from other apps that support it? For the purpose of just displaying it all in one app?

NOPE. Human does it all for you, no user input necessary except for initial setup. Everything else is calculated on its own. It can even differentiate when you are just active, walking, cycling or in the car (which you don't get calories for). Human is legit. I'm seriously trying to justify the use of my Nike + apps now..because other than the social aspect..they are becoming obsolete.

Cool .... thanks for the info. I just installed it. I'm assuming the app has to be open in the background for it to write the calories burned to Healthkit, correct?
