I use Human and Sleep Cycle now for steps and sleep.

I wonder why Nike has updated their apps to support Health and M8.

I couldn't get map my ride to write data to health, I did a test run and the data remained empty..

update from an earlier post of mine in this thread:

Strava, MyFitnessPal, and Sleep Cycle. I just purchased Sleep Cycle ($0.99) yesterday and tried it out last night. It is now my alarm clock as well as observing my sleeping patterns. I really like it.

I do. As a diabetic, tracking blood glucose is important to me. Of course, the 8.1 update removed blood glucose tracking to fix a few bugs in how the data is handled, but eventually it'll be back. But, at any rate, a company called iHealth Labs produces a connected blood glucose meter that I use to keep up with it. They also have a scale, blood pressure wrist cuff, and an activity tracker. I use the former two, and just use the M7 chip in my 5s for steps and activity.

And from what I can tell after a few days use, I have to not only keep the app open in the background but also have to actually open it once a day for it to write the calorie burned to Healthkit. Is this correct?

Unfortunately I think so. A minor inconvenience for the data it provides.

Anyone use a cycling app that integrates with health kit and doesn't require accessories for the bike?

I can't seem to find it there.

Does it on its own, with no user input. If you tap on the middle icon you will see a breakdown of walking, running, cycling and active.

Strava is a popular one. can be used without or with accessories. Walking, Running, & Cycling can be tracked and pushed to Health App and many other apps like MFP.

Human is slow to update data.

I'll try it out. Thanks.

I'm beginning to wonder how running these health apps in the background affects battery life. Does anyone have any info on that?

Run them and find out. Obviously they use some power. If you don't like the impact of such apps don't use them. Simple enough.

Is the thumbnail attached to your original post a screenshot of the Human app?

I've been using MyFitnessPal to log my meals and gym/yoga activity to track my calories consumed and burned and very disappointed that MFP only feeds my nutrition data into Health. I also use Fitocracy to track my workouts but it doesn't feed any data to Health and Fitness Buddy requires me to log in the calories burned from my workouts rather than giving a rough estimate for them so no "Active Calories" are being sent to Health.

Is there another app besides Human that sends "Fitness" data to Health (without requiring purchase of a separate tracker)? I'd like an app into which I can log my workouts, like my different interval cardio workouts, strength training, and power vinyasa/baptiste yoga sessions, and which automatically calculates an estimate of calories burned.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

BTW, I tried searching for a dedicated Health thread mentioned by someone upthread but I couldn't find it.

Well, fwiw, I ended up finding a solution... The CARROT Hunger app sends Workout/Active Calories data to the Health app, and as a bonus pulls my Dietary Calories from the Health app. For now, My Fitness Pro and CARROT Hunger enable me to track my diet and exercise progress in terms of calories in Health which is very useful.

i tried sleep cycle but i noticed that it makes me sleep worse. it puts me under pressure to sleep i guess lol like i end up waking up at night checking on it or have a harder time to fall asleep. i am ocd like that. oh and it only added one dot for each night into the health app instead of the actual graph of the night?

i wonder how reliable their heart rate app is? it got great reviews but i fail to see how the camera could properly messure it.

I use instant heart rate by Azumio and the results are usually accurate if not then it's only 1-5 points off. My heart rate was going at 120-140 without doing any type of physical activity and my parents (in their late 30's) were reading at 85-93. This was back in November 2013 when I first downloaded the app (unfortunately my data got lost when my iPhone 4s crashed).

Anyway, this app is the reason why I went out to see a doctor. In February I got an artificial heart and in October I had a heart transplant. This scenario is unlikely to happen to most people though, but it goes to show how accurate it is. I always use this app before getting an EKG and the numbers usually match up.
