sadly.... i am a little ashamed to admit that I dont use my MBP to the best of its ablity :(

Do I regret getting the MBP over the MB.. not a chance :D

- I struggled with a laptop that did not have a dedicated graphics chip... NEVER AGAIN!!!

- Love the screen real estate as well as the backlit keyboard :)

- I enjoy using this beast every chance I get :-D

I'm starting to use garageband a little bit now trying to mess around with editing tracks :).

Aside from that...... just using my MBP for:

- iTunes
- Web browsing (on safari or firefox)
- light photo editing in iPhoto
- Chatting away :p
- Watching the occasional DVD or tv show ;)

Wow, that's exactly what I do on my MBP!

You kidding? That's what my XServe is for. I use the MacBook Pro as a nightlight thanks to its awesome screensaver abilities.

:D

I wonder OP, why does this matter to you? If you had the money to buy your mbp, shouldn't you feel comfortable with the fact that you got a "better" machine? Even if you don't use all of its potential now, you might expand your usage at a later point in time, which might make it worthwhile for you to have invested in it right?

If you really have buyer's remorse, why not ask yourself what your reasons were for wanting a mbp, and then examine if those reasons are still true to this day. If they are, don't concern yourself with this as it's a moot point.

Hope that helps you. :)

I use my MBP to Surf/Music/DVD's and what not.

I dont want anything less because I want a bigger screen, and I want the Power... :)

I hate to be a jerk, but a lot of you people are complete idiots. Why would you waste $2000+ for a computer that you barely use. I have been saving for a PB/MBP for nearly 3 years now and I am still not sure if it is worth it to buy a MBP versus a far cheaper MB or even iMac.

For those of you who bought a MBP just for web browsing, iTunes, stupid chatting, etc., how many of you actually bought the computer with your own, hard earned money?

No need to be so harsh. Some people don't always realize what they will use on their computer until they've "settled in" and, by that time, it's too late. Others simply like to know they have that extra bit of power, just in case.

I know that I don't like the idea of shared graphics memory. RAM is very important and graphics should have its own, so it doesn't interfere with other programs that require as much RAM as possible.

Lastly, people are entitled to do anything they want with their money, despite you thinking they're "idiots."

Ditto. And besides that, almost none of us actually need the processing power of our machines to do the stuff we do. If you surf the net, listen to music, chat, type documents, check email, and do the stuff 99% of people do on their computers, a G3 processor (or a Pentium III) will do just fine. So why aren't we all using clamshell iBooks, blueberry iMacs, and sub gigahertz PCs? Because we can afford newer stuff. There's nothing wrong with that. Unless you're typing from a 4+ year old computer, you're probably using more gear than you need. So why blame others for doing the same?

Why do old people by ferrari's that they are going to drive at 30 miles per hour anyways? Because they can and want it. If you want a macbook pro, get it. It is your money, don't feel bad that you don't use it to its maximum potential, there may come a day when you need that power and you would be irked if you didn't have it. As for me, gaming was what was in my mind when I got this (and I just picked up my first mac game) so the power is a welcome and needed feature.

Besides that, i personally think the battery life that accompanies the LED backlit screen is a must.

My opinion.

Spot on! :D:D:D:D

BTW, ArkaBas, do you remember writing the following:

"I learned my lesson once before and will never again buy a non-Pro consumer laptop. All you MB lovers are happy now, but in two or three years you will regret not dishing out an extra $500-$700 for the Pro variant.

MBP all the way "

100% agree. By far, most people won't even use a macbook to its fullest potential. That doesn't imply that we ought not buy new computers ever again.

Ok, now to defend myself. First and foremost, I don't buy the Ferrari analogy. Nobody here fits into the category of old people who have spent their entire lives working and now want to have some fun before leaving this world for the next.

Regarding my old comments... Unlike others, I do in fact need the extra power of a MBP/PB. I do a lot of web design and Photoshop work and my 1024x800 iBook G4 has been absolutely killer. I made a big mistake and I will never repeat it. Other reasons why I will only buy pro hardware from now on include better resale value and "future proofness".

EDIT:

I completely disagree. Have you tried browsing today's internet using a G3? It is very painful, especially when using tabs or looking at websites that rely heavily on Flash, Windows Media DRM ****, etc. Oh, and take a look at Vista's or Leopard's system specs. Your "G3 processor (or a Pentium III)" will NOT do just fine, even if all you want to do is check your email and chat. You are not in fact getting that much extra horsepower when you buy a MB. The MB is pretty standard when it comes to modern computers.

EDIT 2 : One more thing. Gaming is a very good reason to buy a MBP. If you are into computer games, dedicated graphics is a must. I am not criticizing people who buy MBPs for this reason. I am criticizing people who buy MBPs just for "web browsing, iTunes, and Word processing."

And why not exactly? There are some reasonable parallels that can be drawn.
Nobody here fits into the category of old people who have spent their entire lives working and now want to have some fun before leaving this world for the next.
Really? You know for a fact that "nobody" fits into the aforementioned category? Intriguing.
Regarding my old comments... Unlike others, I do in fact need the extra power of a MBP/PB.
So if someone who doesn't use a mbp as much as you (in potential terms) does that person owning a mbp somehow diminish your mbp? I fail to see the relevance of this.
Other reasons why I will only buy pro hardware from now on include better resale value and "future proofness".

So only "pro" users can value better resale value? Only "pro" users need "future proofness?"

I bought the MBP thinking I'll use it for lots of video editing and Photoshop, but I rarely do that stuff since I'm too lazy. So yeah I just use it for surfing the web ,iTunes, and word prosessing.

I bought my MBP purely based on its aesthetic. Now I am feeling that I could have settled with a white MacBook and save lots of money. Are there anyone out there who uses the MBP for simple task?

I don't even play games or do video editing, lol.

50% of my usage on my MBP is the above. Then 25% for gaming. Another 25% for photo editing and workflow.(ish)

I love my MBP, wouldnt have changed a thing in my deciding of a computer (its not my first mac)

Calboy. I hope you are joking. Did you even read or think about what I wrote? I explained exactly why that analogy is false. About you finding my old age comment intriguing, give me a break dude. Also, I never said ANYTHING about pro users, only that resale value is a valid reason to buy a MBP versus MB. And your comment "So if someone...relevance of this." This makes very little sense.

But whatever, I don't mean to hate, especially at a time of year like this. Sorry for any offense, I really shouldn't call people idiots. It's just not right that so many people get such great stuff without earning it.

Do you want us to tell you not to think about all the starving children who could have been provided nourishment if you had donated the savings of buying a regular MB instead of a MB pro to a charity?

If so, DON'T think about all the starving children who could have been provided nourishment if you had donated the savings of buying a regular MB instead of a MB pro to a charity, and ENJOY your MB Pro.

I find it interesting how futureproofing is apparently not a valid reason to get a MBP.

It's not really a valid point now that the processors are so powerful. My parents got a MBP as soon as it came out, but I waited and got a MacBook when it was released. Both have 1.83GHz Core Duo chips, and both had 512MB of RAM. And I paid a few hundred less for my machine.

I think if you aren't beating the carp out of the GPU, the only reasons to get the MBP is for the bigger display, FW800, little luxuries (backlit keyboard) and personal preference (keyboard, aluminium vs plastic). And if you can afford it, there's nothing wrong with that :)

I know this will sound wrong, but...

Considering how much money was stolen from the 9-11 fund, the Hurrican Katrina Relief fund, toys from the Toys for Tots drive, etc., I'd really rather spend my money on ME than give to charities that always seem to have funds disappear. It is sad that there people in desperate need, yes, but it is sadder that people will use and abuse that fact to take my money for their own gain.

O how I stressed over this exact same issue. I told myself I would never play video games on my laptop because I wasn't a gamer, but I ended up getting the MBP. Best decision I've ever made even if it was only for the larger screen which I really appreciate over the MB.
Now, 8 months later, I constantly play video games on my MBP. O what a wise decision it was.

My MBP is used to play games on Windows XP running via BootCamp. I would not have been able to play Call of Duty 4 smoothly on a Macbook. Apart from that, most of the time, I use my MBP to do basic stuff that OP mentioned. Occasionally, I also dive into Photoshop, performing some CPU intensive work.

Right, because I'm sure your spending habits could be scrutinized for maximizing the well-being of humanity.

apple did a very good job on the marketing, people use MBP cause they can. i am sure alot of people here are just for the look and the brand :apple:
