Give me links to these tests. Because honestly I had 2.2.1 on my 3G and went to AT&T and did side by side with the 3GS and there was maybe 1/2 second difference.

Now that I have 3.0b1, next to the 3GS at the same store there is no difference.

Yeah I know that Apple says it is 2X faster on their website. If that's all you're going on then...

For one...

Back in October, I got bored with the iPhone and got a BB Curve. I used it for a few months and cancelled the service and went back to the iPhone. I haven't missed the BB since and I will never make this same mistake again. I love my iPhone! :)

I switched from the 1st gen to the E71 to the xperia x1 to a BB 8310 and now i cant live with them, they were bad especially the xperia. The e71 and BB 8310 felt good because of the physical keyboard as i used to text a lot which has changed now.

PS: Factory Unlocked 33gb 3G S white on its way

I did this twice and regretted it twice.

First time I switched to the Blackberry Bold. It is truly and awesome phone, really, I have nothing bad to say about that phone except that it isn't an iPhone.

Second time I tried out the Blackberry Storm (I actually had my iPhone along side this). I liked the storm a lot, and I think I was perhaps one of the few who truly liked the clicky screen. The is even a feature on the storm that I would like to see on the iPhone (the ability to use it in landscape all the time). But again, while the phone didn't have any real issues, it still wasn't an iPhone.

It's like driving an Audi or BMW, you have no reason to switch to another German sedan unless there's a list of compelling reasons for you to.

So it's not like I am absolutely obsess with iPhone, but it's the fact that nothing out there is compelling enough for me to bother with switching.

I switched from a brand new iPhone 3GS (32GB) to a used, cracked, and scratched up iPhone 3G (16GB) running 2.2.1 because I didn't like the iPhone 3GS build quality and screen. I love my iPhone 3G screen and other than the cracks that I put there, I can't complain about the build. It's a great phone and 2.2.1 makes it almost as fast as the iPhone 3GS.

The build quality on the 3G S is worse than the 3G?

The build quality on the three 3GS's I owned was worse than the 3G I currently have and I don't feel like downgrading the look and feel for a faster iPhone. Plus, I saved $500 by returning it.

I figure if I wait until I have an upgrade, it will be cheaper to upgrade, plus by then, hopefully the kinks are worked out.

The build quality on the 3G S is worse than the 3G?

No, don't listen to him. His 3G is cracked and scratched up, so clearly the build quality on his 3G isn't great. I own both, they feel the same, look the same, and have the same quality.

That's not what I said. They are both made the same way, but the three different 3GS's I had did not satisfy me, so I went back to the phone that satisfy's me... my iPhone 3G. It's not that hard to figure out.

Yeah... sure it does.
"Almost" isn't an exact measurement. Launching apps on 2.2.1 next to an iPhone 3GS is only slightly behind. I'm being serious. It's about a half-second difference.
What is your problem?
Also, I forgot to mention. I'm not just talking about launching apps, but animations are smoother and the graphics are better looking (in my opinion). 3.0 is pretty ugly as far as design goes.

OMG you are such a hypocrite!! That half second difference is the exact reason you spewed post after post why you did't like jailbreaking.... because It "slowed" the iPhone down. EVEN after I posted my video showing it was 10ths of a second different, you still said you didn't JB because of that "difference". You are such a douche.

I'm not sure where you are getting your iPhone or what you are doing to them. I have owned three 1st generations that were perfect, 3 3Gs that were perfect and now one 3G S that is also perfect. Never had to return any of them.

Thank you for that. I downgraded to 2.2.1 because 3.0 slowed my iPhone down and I don't really care for 3.0 that much. Is that so bad? Believe it or not, I am happier on my iPhone 3G than I was with my 3GS that had a washed out screen, dull colors, yellow tint on the bottom and an uneven bevel. I already went through 3 different iPhone 3GS's and they were all pretty much the same way. So yes, I downgraded to the iPhone 3G so that I can be happy again. Tell you what... if that makes me a "douche" then so be it.

Depends on what you believe perfect to be. My definition of perfect could be different than yours. If I had gotten an iPhone 3GS that was at least the same quality as my iPhone 3G, I would have been plenty happy. However, I was unhappy, so I did the most sensible thing... I returned it. Just like anyone would do if they're unhappy with a product.

If you're interested... here's how hard it was to get my "perfect" iPhone 3G and I don't feel like going through all of that again with the iPhone 3GS (I started to with 3 until I thought... this madness has to stop). That's why I returned the 3GS.

Anyways... here was my quest for the perfect iPhone 3G last year:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/582099/

Give it a read. It's a good story.

I don't understand... I was in the carphone warehouse here in the UK the other day and none of the iPhones they had on display had even a slight tint. Somebody that I work with has just bought an iPhone 3G and that has no tint. My old iPhone 2G had no tint. I have never seen an iPhone with a tint.

Either you are seeing things that aren't there, or the build quality is better over here.

I agree your madness must stop.

You never answered my question when I asked before - but do you, perhaps, have Asperger's?

Are you as anal-retentive about everything in your life - or just your phone?

How does your "girlfriend" respond to your obsessive behavior over an inanimate device?

Nah he is just looking for flaws. Seems like a lot of iPhone owners get their phone and spend a long time trying to find things wrong with it, which is pathetic really. I got my 3G (and 3GS) and just started using it. I wasn't trying to shake it to hear rattling, rub my fingers around the edges to ensure its flush everywhere, or open pure white pages and compare to the 3G to see if there are color issues. I guess I purchased the phone for its functionality, not as a device I could obsess over pointlessly.

And based on his previous posts, its clear he needs to talk to someone.

Agreed. My iPhone 2G had scratches all over the display and I didn't give a monkeys because it was still usable!

For me, I'm just glad that you're happy. I don't agree that OS 3.0 slows down the 3G or the 3GS, but if to you it does, then I'm glad you downgraded. Also, like you say, your definition of perfect is your definition. As is mine/ours and all the people arguing with you. I'm just glad they came out with OS 3.0. My 3G is perfect (to me)!

I'm not anal about everything. Just $500 phones.

My girlfriend is extremely supportive of me and my actions. I still spend plenty of time with her, don't worry.

That's nice, but I didn't have to "look" for the defects. I just had to pick up the iPhone 3GS for the first time to feel the bezel misalignment and then I just had to look at the screen to notice the hue shift. I work in a print shop for five days a week working with color and graphics... I just have a sharper attention to detail I guess. So sue me. Fact is... the 3GS bothered me enough to return it and go back to my 3G. Life is good.

You don't have to be happy for me. I would say 99% of people here on MacRumors couldn't even dream of going back to 2.2.1, but it makes me happy, so why not right? I know what I'm missing and I have more than one iPhone, so I know what the difference is. I can compare them directly side by side. It's cool if 3.0 is perfect for you... that's your thing.

He doesn't have a girlfriend. He chased the one and only girl he had by nitpicking everything she did along with her appearance. He didn't like the one tooth that was a little crooked.

Cute joke. I have a girlfriend and she's very nice. People are very different than phones.

AHHHHHHHHHH now it makes sense. TheSpaz. I worked in the printing industrytoo. You're used to looking through loops - checking registration marks and making sure everything lines up perfectly.

Unfortunately, not everything in life works the same way.

Sometimes if you have to look THAT close to determine if something is right or wrong (physically) you're just looking too close. I had a client when we were on tight deadlines, already had 2 web breaks on the coldset and everything looked great. If we kept rolling we could meet their deadline. Any other delay would mean -well - not meeting it. The client had a new rep who came over and asked for a loop (now if you know anything about cold set webs you know that color registration isn't going to be 100 percent most of the time...) the lead said "if you have to look at this paper through a loop - it's ready to run"

Understand?

I do understand. The thing is though... I see these things without having to look closely. Unfortunately just picking up the iPhone with a misaligned bezel is enough for me to feel it and it doesn't feel comfortable in my hand feeling a smooth edge on one side and a sharp edge on the other side. Also, the yellow tint on the bottom was noticeable because just looking at MobileMail, the top blue bar and the bottom blue bar were really noticeably different colors. The top bar was blue and the bottom bar was blue/green. Also any time I was looking at anything white, it really stood out. Even when I went into landscape mode I could see the shift in color even more. It stood out even when I wasn't trying to see it. In a way, I feel cursed for having this ability to notice details without even trying.

It sucks... when I had the iPhone 3GS, I noticed that the graphics in the firmware were even different. Look at this. Yes, I saw that without even trying. I'm really good at those "I Spy" books.

Yes. But if things like that illustrated above upset you THAT much - then you're being too obsessive. You can notice all the changes - but when anything different sets you off - it's a problem
