Anyone with a 16gb iPad?

Hi Everyone,

I was considering getting the 16gb iPad instead of the 32gb. Has anyone with the 16gb iPad had any issues with space?

We filled up most with the first sync. Had just 5gb left. We exchanged it for a larger one.....was going to do 32gb but they were out so we went to 64gb.
 
What do you want it to carry?

We haven't had a problem, but then again I sync portions of my AV collection nearly every day. I've never had a device big enough to hold everything, so I just got used to picking and choosing.
 
I personally have the 64GB but my friend at work bought the 16GB. He says, man I didn't realize what I was going to use this for. I wish I bought the 64GB. He has said that on 2 different days already. I personally only have 3 gigs free on my 64GB. I wish I had 128GB. LOL, I'm greedy!!!!!
 
It entirely depends what you are going to do with it.

I personally have absolutely no problem with space, but I also put very little music on it, very few photos, and a few hours of video.
 
Are you storing all of your music? I already have a few iPods and was thinking I could get away with a few hundred songs on the iPad.I have around 50 gigs in music but only listen to a few hundred songs at a time.

I keep about 1,5 gb of music on my iPad - more than I anticipated since the speaker is way better than expected.

My opinion is that if your entire media library is under 50gb, buy the 64 gb one and put everything on it.

If you have more media, you're going to be syncing at some point. If you want a lot of video, photos, and you are into hundreds of apps, the 16 probably won't work.

If you focus on a few dozen apps, a few photos, and a few videos, I see no reason not to go with the 16.
 
Guess I'll be a minority voice and say I haven't been able to get under 10gb free. But I stream all my video, and my mp3s stay on my mp3 player. Majority of my usage is comic books and apps. I think I'm running at 10.7 ish free right now. Don't see that changing unless they come out with a lot of really good apps in the future.
 
I have the 16 and have plenty of space. I didn't put any music on it though, I see no point in adding music to the iPad with all the other devices and apps that can stream music.
 
I have the 16gig and find it fine for my needs.

I have 1.5 gigs of music. Roughly 325 songs. My actual iTunes catalog is about 40gigs. But I have no desire to keep everything on my iPad. In fact - I have only listened to music once on it since I bought it on launch day. I have an iPhone with the same collection on it which I use at the gym and when out and about. I'm fine with cycling my collection - but so far having even just 300+ songs has been plenty. If I'm home - then I have my computer and/or I have my 40gig iPod which is hooked up to my stereo to play.

I have several pages of apps on my iPad along with a few movies. I use air video now + abc + netflix - so see little reason to load up as many movies as I might have in the past. I'll be loading "more" up for my next trip as I won't always have wifi around.

I have about 20 eBooks as well. And about 1200 photos

I still have PLENTY of space - I think last I checked - 7-8 gigs.

It really depends on usage. I've had no problems with my iPhone with 16gig and didn't feel the need to spend more on the iPad on storage. With things like evernote, etc too - most of the docs I would access are in the cloud - not taking up space on my device.

How many movies do you really want/need on your device + pictures + music + apps + ebooks + "extra" space. I don't think anyone can answer that but you.
 
16 is perfectly manageable, but if you don't want to have to bother picking and choosing what to keep on go for the 32. It is probably worth the $100 for the peace of mind, it can be annoying deleting more apps and videos than you want.
 
I always have my iPhone and Nano with me so to have a lot of music on the iPad for me is pointless. I just made a smart playlist named "Top 100", it's the top 100 played songs. I will just be syncing that to my iPad for music. It's plenty.
 
I had the 16gb, but I like to be a pack rat with my movies and TV shows. So I traded up to the 64gb, now I'm quite happy.

I'm planing on buying the 16 this weekend but I might grab the 32. Not really sure.
I just think 16GB is enuff to get me through a day then I can just swap content at night. I've never had a device big enuff for all my stuff anyways..
Regardless, I know I'll be happy!
 
I have the 16 gb iPad because that's what I could afford and didn't have the luxury of being able to choose. I love my iPad and use Air video and NetFlix to save on space.

You clearly have the finances to pick and choose, so I would honestly go with the 32 gb one IF you will be buying tons of apps and want lot's of media stored on your iPad. It all depends on what you use it for.
 
I run a 32gb and have 2 seasons of Battlestar Galactica, 2movies and apron 600+ songs. Plus about 20 or so apps. Have around 1.5 gb left over.

32 is about right if you need to have a good amount of media for my needs.

Just curious - why do you "need" 2 seasons of a show all on the iPad at once. I'm not trying to be argumentative. Just curious as to your thought process. I can understand one season. But 2? And all of the episodes? Do you watch them over and over?

I watched Mad Men on my iPhone (all three seasons) and only had 1 season loaded - and as I watched, I deleted off clearing off more space. Never really saw the need to keep them on the device after watching them.
 
I live in a rural area. I have never met a neighbor who said "Man, I sure wish I'd have built a smaller barn". 😉
 
Saw the 16 at the store with a few demo apps and the OS on it and it said it only had 14 free or 14 total (as some may be not seen due to OS or something). I want to put movies and just a little music and photos on it, but that said since it plays HD movies I will be syncing some of those as well, and at 2-6 GB for a SD or HD movie file, bought or ripped the 32 makes sense at a minimum. I think the 16 shouldn't have been an option but they wanted to come out with a $499 model. I also wouldn't be surprised to see the 16 go $449 by Halloween for the Holiday season and see the others drop $50 as well or see the 16 go away with $499 for the 32 and $599 for the 64. If 128 is still to costly it might come in at $799.

If one of your movies is 2-6 gigs at SD - then you are ripping/using files WAY too high. I have stellar movies both at 720 and SD that are under/just around a gig.
 
16 Is Fine

I have the 16GB model and it's plenty for me. I have a few game and productivity apps and no music or photos on it now, although I may add some in the future, and I have right next to 10GB free. I will use the iPad mainly to surf the Web, do email, read books, and watch the occasional movie or TV episode. I have no need to store much on it. I AM still fighting with myself over whether I should've held out for the 3G model that I have no genuine need for, though. 🙄
