Going to return it some this week. 4th unit and still has dust inside the camera lens. Both same shot but one is actually portrait and the other is landscape. you can see the huge blurry circle at the top is probably a dust, cause I cant wipe it off no matter way. Seriously Apple.

ZERO REGRETS - tried an SE 2 to replace my original SE...absolutely hated the size and heft of it...battery life was nothing specular...love my Mini though...near perfect size (Would have been happy if it was original SE size with no bezels to be honest). I use it for basic phone functions - calls, texts, web surfing (no video playback) and photos and occasional game of solitaire (only have 3 games on it). I always turn off location services, wi-fi and use low battery mode as soon as it's fully recharged...got 60 hrs between my last full recharge from thursday 8 am to Saturday 7:30 pm (100% to 2%) . As I write this its been 29.5 hrs since my last recharge and I have 75% charge left (for reference same use pattern with a relatively new replacement battery in my original SE required recharging after about 12-14 hours).

This is not dust, check YouTube video about the iPhone 12 pro camera where they talk about that in depth.

I was regretting it a little bit the first couple of days because of the battery. I know it’s always the worst then, but I didn’t see how it could improve enough for my needs.

Well, it did. Coming from the iPhone 11 Pro, I was a little spoiled on battery life, and obviously the mini can’t touch the 11 Pro’s battery life, but now I’m getting around 8 hours SOT with my mini and that’s good enough for me.

This phone is almost perfect. I would prefer a camera design that looked more like the X/XS since it doesn’t have the third camera. The square with two lenses up against one side just looks odd. But that’s nitpicky.

The main thing I would change with this phone is adding the ceramic shield to the back of the phone as well. I cracked the back of my 11 Pro after it fell out of my pocket. I’d rather have ceramic shield on the back than the front since that’s more expensive to replace.
Your post really spoke to me because I feel like I’m in the exact same position as you. How long exactly did it take for you to notice the battery life improving? I too am coming from an 11 pro and have been spoiled by not having to think twice about plugging my phone in. I really love everything about this mini but the one thing that’s making me consider returning for a regular 12 is battery life. I’ve only used my mini for 2 full days so far and I can’t help but notice the percentage going down. Maybe I’m overthinking it...

(roughly, I’d say I’ve gotten an average of 5.5 to 6.5 hours of SOT so far) Going to use it another day and see how I feel. I understand that it completely depends on my use case as well..

It was about the 3rd day I believe when I noticed it was going to be good enough for me. Since you still have plenty of time to return it, I’d say stick it out a little longer. Get back into your normal routine where you’re not overusing it because it‘s new, but also charge it when you can so you’re not constantly worried about it dying. I don’t know about other people, but I get anxious when my battery percentage dips gets into the 60s. I know I haven’t even used half the battery yet, but subconsciously I feel like my phone is about to die, so I need to work on that. Lol

Also, I wouldn’t return the mini and get a regular 12 for battery life, unless you find you’re just barely short of being able to make it a full day with the mini. You’re not going to see a massive improvement on the regular 12 over the mini, and it’s still going to be worse than your 11 Pro.

I came from an iPhone 8 Plus.

I love the size of the mini - love it to death.

But I'm missing the 2x telephoto lens - I used it a lot more than I thought.

The 12 Pro is bigger - but heavier too.

The weight of the mini in the pocket is great.

If they ha the 2x telephoto in the mini it'd be the near perfect phone.

I think there is a "battery phobia" these days...

The Mini has a normal battery life, it can take the full day for a normal use. Of course the bigger phones had better battery life.
No it doesn’t

that’s the point though

small screen use it less

lensflare

nothing you can do about it
sorry to disagree with you , I shot the same thing at the same position with my gf's white mini, no such dot, so dont tell me its lens flare when I clearly have another phone to compare it with. lens flare dont show up every time at the same spot when you shooting at something like direct light, and even at different lighting scenario

I think so too. Yes everyone would like a big battery but with a small device you have to compromise and here is where I don't get most of the people here complaining. Are all these people complaining people who are every hour of the day outside, traveling, doing sports and having not one chance to charge it for 30min on a power bank/battery pack? Are all those people complaining people who have no power outlet in the room they spent their time in?

I am myself someone who doesn't want to charge throughout the day, I want my battery to last as long as possible, my 14 months old iPhone 11 is on 98% battery health. Only charging it once a day and with 5w Apple charger. But sometimes you have to compromise. And I do soooo agree that this has become an obsession. Battery was terrible in smartphones 5-10 years ago imo. During all those years I saw many people charging their phones when possible because BL was so bad. Now everything has to last days. Why? And what are people doing? Are they on their phone 10h a day? If so and if you are not in "influencer" you should really be concerned about that. And I don't say that to defend the Mini. I just don't get why everyone is so obsessed and concerned with battery life. Maybe we should start a thread of people's screen-on time. I really, really, wonder....

I think it is a media thing too. I don't get why every review(er) needs to address two things for 2/3-3/4 of the review, camera and battery life. And the other about 5-10 things for 1/3 of the review. It is a phone and no media review f.e. really shows how reception is. Sometimes they do a speedtest and they say reception and call quality is good. But don't review it really, like going outside the city etc. and testing it. Show when there is no service. But battery life and camera are sooooooo important. It has gotten this way because of media, that's it. I watch these reviews sometimes but it has gotten frustrating, every review is the same and they are all about BL and camera, and a tiny bit about display.

i think it’s been a meme with iphone users being tethered to the wall outlet, up until the XR and the 11pm that’s just how it was. it set a whole new standard for the iphone so people expect that standard to continue. seeing the 12s battery sizes get smaller this year is kind of a apple money grab meme. next year they bump it back up and once again claim longest battery ever in an iphone.
