Wait, if it uses ibeacon, wouldn't that mean you would need Bluetooth on for this to work?
Hmmm more confusion.

That's my understanding and since I always have BT on that's probably why I see the lockscreen apps all the time. I believe if you turn off the location services for the particular app it blocks it from showing as well.

This has been driving me nuts. I haven't been able to get it to pop up on my lock screen either. It worked when I had beta 2 and 3 of ios 8, but haven't seen it work since. I have both toggles switched to on as well.

I have BT off on mine and the Meijer app popped up while I was at Meijer. Seems to me like it uses your location based on GPS, probably why people don't see it often. The location reminders seem to me to be very unreliable also. I've set reminder to remind me when I get somewhere and very often they never do.

I never have bluetooth on and Dunkin Donuts icon pops up when I'm at Dunkin Donuts, Walmart was there when we stopped in Walmart and an AT&T Icon was there when we ate dinner next door to a AT&T Store.

I never have bluetooth on either. When I'm at the rail station, it shows the Deutsche Bahn app (main railway company in Germany), when I'm at certain places it shows the app for local transportation services. Pretty nice actually...

Mine didn't work last week, but yesterday my Kroger Plus card popped up on the home screen. Not sure what the deal is, but I didn't update anything it just happened on its own.

mine still isn't working. For starbucks i let the app have location when in background. i don't get it. do all these apps have to be in background refresh?

The only place I have seen it put an app on the lock screen is at school. It puts the grade thing app there. Really quite amazing cuz I know damn well my school district didn't go out of their way to make it happen. But it's only there when I have wifi on. When I turn it off it will go away

Same here.

Can I get that wallpaper? Very nice.

Hopefully this gets you the full res image:

Maybe! Mine doesn't work either. All apps work except Starbucks, the one I'm likely to use. Stinks.

it worked for me on my iPhone 6 until I did a restore from back up last week. Hasn't shown since. There needs to be more control over what apps can show up and how they show up. As it is, it seems all too random now

I just upgraded both my Macbook Pro and iMac to OS X Yosemite. I guess what I'll do is upgrade to iOS 8.1 come Monday. Then, when I have time, I'll restore it to a clean version of 8.1 without restoring the back up. Just start fresh.

By now I have a ton of apps I use and don't use both in the library. So what I normally do is delete ALL apps on my Mac. Then I transfer my purchases (apps) from my iPhone to the computer. When I go to sync my empty phone to iTunes I don't have to be selective about the apps because by syncing ALL the apps it will be what was previously on my phone. Because not restoring from a backup can suck this will make it a little easier.

It worked just fine and I noticed it was there I asked myself what the heck is that every time I am near Starbucks, Apple store, and other I can't remember. :apple:

For a brief time my employer had an app on the app store - needless to say, the guy who made it left, so it was stuck in the world of 3.5" screens and iOS 6. Eventually we were able to get it taken down, but it was appearing on device screens without us doing anything. We don't have iBeacons set up or anything else special.

Kroger Card Popped Up Today

I was across the parking lot in a McDonalds and my Kroger card popped up on the home screen. Was a good bit away from the store still so my guess is that it is tied to a GPS lock but not sure. Also got a Starbucks pop up the other day when near Starbucks. Interesting...

I noticed this working for me, for the first time yesterday

After work, walked to the train station and got onto the train and noticed that on my lockscreen (iPhone 6), at the bottom left corner, was a 'train timetable' app which I have installed.

Its never appeared before, even though I have been doing the same journey since well before buying the iPhone 6 or using iOS 8 and have always had that app on my phone - weird?!!?

If I tap on the app, obviously, it just opens the appropriate app. Its like this function has just started working out of the blue (I haven't changed or enabled any settings on my phone)...?!!

Good to know. My guess is that it's location based and utilizing POIs and business locations from the Maps app.

I noticed the Apple Store icon pop up the other day and it took me to the app for the Top of the Rock.....which I was visiting at the time for some shots of ESB lit up in Red.

Of course I've seen a few others pop up such as the ubiquitous $bux...
