not to ruin hopes, but y'all do realize that you could have a maximum of 25 entries per day

Clearly you didn't see how quickly it went from 999,995,000 to 1 billion, I only had time to buy like 9 or 10 in that amount of time.

Yeah I only entered this thing once. I said "forget about this - I know there's going to be thousands of people a day doing this nonstop so I'ma just try once and leave it alone so the rest of the people can lose their lives over it."

Wouldn't it be something, though, if I won? lol

Winner

According to the rules. none of the entries before the 1 billionth counted. "The winner shall be the person who downloads the billionth app, or the person who submits a non-purchase entry directly after the 999,999,999th app has been downloaded." Sorry to say but there was only one entry that counted

I'm glad for the winners. however I don't how it can already reach the number still counting down. Apple could design a hat allowing everyone to pick a number from 1 to 1 billion.

So is the winner the first person to download an app after the billionth download? Or is it a draw from the downloads before the billionth download? The rules contradict itself.

Not to douse anyone's hopes but the counter on Apple's website was probably out by a good hour or so.

Good news is that I woke up in time to hopefully get a shot at it.

and still no slingplayer

a billion for the most part crappy programs that are basically a waste of time!

Meanwhile good programs people are dying for dont get released!

Honestly Im getting fed up with apple and ATT!

Ummmmmm, no.
Apple said:
The prize will be awarded for the entry (either through an app download or through the non-purchase online entry) sent immediately following the download of the 999,999,999th app. The potential winner will be determined by the order of the entries received. In the event that more than one entrant would be a winner based on the simultaneous timing of entries, one entrant will be randomly selected from those entrants as the winner. Each entrant’s chances of winning are dependent upon the number of eligible entries received.

The Apple counter lied! (a little)

I watched the counter from my Mac and my iPhone from both the iTunes store and the billion APP counter web page. I noticed a few days ago that the counter was running at different speeds and correcting forward and backwards. So I ran a list of time verses counts and figured out they are most likely taking a tally and some average number of downloads over time and seeding the web page counter with these numbers. On Tuesday night I estimated that the 1B APP would hit around dinner time (East Coast) on Thursday. Depending on when you looked at the counter it could have been several day either way.

I started buying APPS at 999,750,000 figuring that there would be a surge and the APP counter was increasing about 5300 APP per minute. What was interesting is that my iPhone while refreshing the APP store showed 999,935,000 and then a few second later it showed 1,000,000,000. That's fine except that the web page counters were still counting (even with refreshing) for about another 8 minutes, so I kept downloading APP's until all the counters agreed.

I would be interesting to see actual stats of the surge. I only noticed a very slight delay on the counter image towards the end which I figured out was updated every minute.

I hope the drawing doesn't take the 10 days it says it could

BAH it's not a friggen draw! The winner is notified within 3 days, and the apple site will update witht he winner in approx ten days. The only way there is a draw is if there is identical time stamps on the 1 billionth app download!
