No iPhone will ever be called 'Pro' it's astoundingly hilarious that people think that will happen. It's gonna likely be iPhone 6 and iPhone 6L (as the 9to5mac article mentions). Next year it will be iPhone 6S and iPhone 6LS. Apple will never say 'iPhone Pro S' or 'iPhone Proer' nor will there be 'iPhone Air' 'iPhone Air S' or 'iPhone Airier'. There is no iPhone for professionals, they all will always have the maximum specs, and a professional can choose whatever size device they want.

P.S. The naming is almost entirely marketing, and iPhone Pro would be the worst marketing POSSIBLE. Nothing would be more stupid/confusing/infuriating to customers. By the way, the only reason they are making different sizes is because people don't all want the same sized screen. There will be no or next to no differences in specs.

I agree, dumb name. Your naming is spot on!
Though, I do think there will be different specs.

Mainly screen size, battery, perhaps camera. As perfect as my iPhone 5S already is, I think it it could use more battery, screen real estate, and slightly better camera.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves, this is not the huge capacity we have all been waiting for, nor will it change hardly a thing.

A slightly larger capacity battery with a larger screen which draws more power, so ultimately yes we will have an increase in battery life BUT only a little bit, iphone will still need to charged every day.

Of course Apple will certainly not make this battery too large, because they will be saving it for 2015's iphone 6s, where everyone will again go out and buy iphone.

Does this mean all those new "wall hugger" ads are going to be short lived?
No because you'll be right back here after you buy it complaining that your iPhone 6 dies by noon. And they'll tell you to turn off all the features to save battery life.

Was. Rinse and repeat.

Agreed, it could have several minor differences, but I seriously doubt they will differentiate them much from different screen size. The entire point of two screen sizes is to make everyone happy. Apple has highly intelligent people, and they're not going to make the people that want a 4.7" or 5.5" unhappy because one or the other is significantly better than the other. In no reality does that make sense. In my opinion there may be enough people that would elect to have a 4" to make 3 screen sizes and stick to that until no one buys iPhones anymore.

For those people that say if someone wanted a 4" there is the 5S, well, I feel really bad for your critical thinking skills, because the reason for multiple screen sizes is that everyone is happy and they can reach as many people as possible. You don't hold one back by giving it worse specs, that's called alienating customers, and they'll go elsewhere. Use your heads (those of you that think that).

Turn on enough features and you can make any smartphone die in a few hours. Or watch movies while downloading, etc etc.

I tend to agree with you a bit, but a 2900+ battery is pretty solid. Way more juice than the iPhone has ever seen. I'd be willing to bet it'll put all the previous models (including the 4.7") to shame.. assuming it's real ;)

A lot of people are saying no way are their going to be 2 different size phones! As I can agree that there is no leaks or proof of the larger phone, nobody but Apple really knows! So I would never say NEVER!!!!! They can come out with 4 different size phones all anybody knows ,so just wait a month and we will all soon find out!

Yea right. Whatever you say.

Every time someone has battery problems the solution is to turn off everything.

Only thing I don't turn on is location on mine. Everything else is on. Lasts all day with very heavy use.

Here is what's going to happen.

IPhone 6 comes out. Users say battery life has been improved.

Ios 8.1 comes out. Users complain of massive battery drain.

Apple releases ios 8.1.1 to address battery woes.

You update, but now your iPhone will never be the same.

Off to get the iPhone 6s.

Wash rinse and repeat.

Macrumors members logic, photo of a battery = iPhone 6 5.5 exists

This is getting ridiculous

So many people will be let down

And so many people, like yourself, are still in denial for some odd reason. It's happening. We're only seeing parts now because the 4.7 is being produced first.

Your post history is hilarious. So negative.. like every post. If you dislike iPhones so much, what in the world are you doing on this forum?

Seriously.. Android is a solid product now.. and probably has a forum just for you. ;)

It isn't negative. Just the truth.

Excellent reasoning, agrees. The naming scheme and spec bump might come to the iPad line. Already amazed at the graphics performance of the iPad Air, I hope they make a pro version.

Hallelujah 5.5

Backstory

When I bought the original iPhone in 2007, it was painfully obvious at least to me that the screen was too small for real world practicality. Combined with the slow speed at the time, I returned it and went back to my Razor. When the speed increased in 2009, I finally dumped the Razor for the iPhone 3Gs.

However, I found having to constantly increase the size of web pages and scroll left to right to read lines of text to be a serious pain. When the HTC EVO debuted in 2010 with the 4.3" screen, that made so much more sense to me. I gave it a try and did find the screen size was the sweet spot that fixed the problem that I found with the iPhone. However, the lag that I experienced with the EVO caused me to return it and stay with the iPhone.

Note: People here thought I was absolutely bat ***** crazy to go from a 3.5" screen to a 4.3" screen and suggest that Apple increase the screen size and offer two different size models!

Before the iPhone 5 debuted, the speculation here was the screen would increase in size substantially. However, when it only increased by 0.5" with a odd wide shape, many were seriously disappointed including myself. I was so disappointed, I did not buy it. I currently have the 4s.

If the 5.5 is a reality, I will be buying that. Why? Because I have played with phones of this size and I like it. Web browsing, youtube, movies, books. It works! I'm sure 4.7 will be great too, but for me I just like a large screen. My biggest concern was will it fit in my pants pocket? Well, I tested the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with 5.7 screen in my pants pocket and it fit perfect! Done deal

Saddest part of this whole story is that Steve Jobs was fixated on the 3.5 screen and presumably did not listen to customer feedback and ended up losing billions to the other companies that gave consumers bigger screens. Only now that Apple has been steamrolled by other companies in billions of dollars are they finally conceding and offering a bigger screen!

And so many people, like yourself, are still in denial for some odd reason. It's happening. We're only seeing parts now because the 4.7 is being produced first.

I guess I'm not a believer, those parts mean absolutely nothing, every year it's the same crap and 80% of every macrumors news is inaccurate
