wow, things are getting real. I bought the Osmo pocket 3 last summer for $519 something. I checked B&H. It's $799, but shows back-ordered. I wonder if B&H will actually be selling it for $799 or if this is just a scare tactic.

I am not sure that it will matter. Im not sure about Apple but my guess is these companies will stay with the higher pricing even the tariffs go away/down
that is probably likely to happen ...
My question "how long are the tariffs going to last" was more rhetorical as a response to "how long can Apple ..."

China's economy is in the tank! They are closing factories like crazy. Without the US, they will be broke like a joke.

Tariffs are a form of "mutually assured destruction". Everyone feels pain. Trump has almost 2 years until the midterm election so it's a good bet that China blinks first. If the tariffs last for awhile, most industries will diversify out of China and into other countries with lower tariffs. China will try to dump into other countries if they can and the other countries will respond with tariffs of their own against China.

Is Russia stealing intellectual property from the US, flooding us with Fentanyl, and tariffing US products ?
Are the penguins doing any of those things? How about Lesotho?

Trump slapped a 10% permanent tariff on the entire world, including Ukraine… but not Russia. I’m sorry, but there’s no escaping that elephant in the room.

Edit to add: @wikiverse has corrected my misstatement about who has not been tariffed: a few other countries share this boon, and all are sanctioned.

American consumers won’t stand for huge price hikes for the next 2 years. Trump is already the least popular President after the first 100 days in 80 years. His approval rating will only get worse as everyday prices start climbing. He will try and lie his way out of this mess claiming the polls are fake news but he will be forced to back down.

Trump will fold more and more as his idiocy starts costing the GOP more and more, as the deep pocket funders of the GOP start to complain more to their servants in Congress.
Maybe, but a lot of those deep pocket GQP funders, as well as many of their servants in Congress, are part of the current extra-fanatical, last-ditch putsch to try to impose a backward white-predominant ethno-state in the US, and so they might continue going along with whatever Trump's ideological enablers want, while Trump is happy to oblige them all given that they put him in the White House, where he wants to stay both for his ego and to keep him out of prison.

until someone stands up and says "enough"

that might be voters. which would take a couple years.

perhaps Republicans who get told how bad this impacts business and doesnt create job but kills them could wake up and make a stand.

but then you have people deported illegally and judges being rounded up and ignored...

but hey blame the current quarter figures on Biden. LOL

I feel sure that Apple will raise prices worldwide to reduce the financial pain that would otherwise be inflicted purely on US consumers.
why would you kill good business in countries you dont have tariffs?

in a struggle to remain profitable, just focus less on US market.

most consumers dont need a new phone or laptop or ipad every two years.
some pain now, ride it out until the midterms, wait for the balance to change from pain, and then when tariffs change the upgrade cycle will be ready for a record rebound.

I know this is a joke but Apple has been quietly pursuing market share — the lower starting price for the MacBook Air, keeping the iPad Air starting price the same, and forecasting lower margins. I would not be surprised if the iPhone 17 remains at $799. I'm not sure about the Pro models or the rumored new iPhone Air.
new marketing keeps the same prices... just adds the end price due to tariffs comes to you from Trump. :)
