To be fair there is no plain MacBook in the lineup, so it's still just three names. I never liked the MacBook without any suffix - for me the MacBook is the family name and then Air, Pro and now Neo are the precise model identifiers. It's more logical in my head at least.

Now the 12 inch MacBook was one of my favourite ever laptops, so if this thing ends up being its spiritual successor by being super small and light I will be quite excited whatever the name.

P.S. why does everyone want a new AppleTV? What are people expecting that will bring to the party? Just curious as I use my AppleTV for 100% of my TV watching and don't really have any issues with it that would be fixed by a hardware upgrade.
Completely agree about AppleTV. What is the compelling reason to upgrade?

In this case, the operating system (OS) is very important. As an owner of an iPad Pro M4, I have often found that the OS and its mobile applications are insufficient for my workflow. In contrast, even a Surface Mini provides the full versions of Microsoft Office, MATLAB, and other essential software.
The devices tested in the FCC docs were running builds of Tahoe, not iPadOS 26.

Looking good for MacOS as long as it doesn’t have some stupid app install restriction.

I kinda like the name. I could imagine it being in some sort of neon blue/green color, like the first iMac. It would have been hit despite comparably low spec

I guess Apple are going to announce it literally 15 minutes before the media event, so they must be really betting on it to be a success. ✌️

It will be quite interesting if the design tapers - so that the 11cm height fitting is the maximum (which seems likely given the shape of the base) I think this would make this feel quite like the 12 inch in the hand, while having a 13 inch (or thereabouts) screen.

Looks like this will be a really interesting product, both for those shopping for a cheap but quality laptop, plus road warriors looking for something more than an iPad but less weighty/bulky than the 13 inch iPads + keyboard in particular.

Ehh, not smaller than my M3 13’6 MBA, and less powerful.
Ok, I save my money.
But good for those who want’s a cheaper portable.

If it was much smaller, I could've been tempted...

I’m kinda of glad they decided to make this new economy version have a DIFFERENT name than the name for the entire product line.

MacBook as a brand name should not be equivalent to your budget model. This is a different thing targeted towards a very specific segment of Mac users and certainly not what Apple wants consumers to think of as the default option so it should be called something different.

I’m glad they learned that lesson from the iPad.

The USB 2.0 port is primarily for charging only. My guess: maximum charging rate of 34 to 35 watts, since the laptop is based on the A18 Pro SoC.
