What Apple Needs is New Innovative Products. The iPhone this June will be almost 8 Years old. The iPhone Gravy Train is almost over. Its time to invent some new products. Just like the iPod had its run, The iPhone run is coming to a close soon.

The iPhone, this June, will be seven seven years old.

Samsung is know for making great electronic components. But making them into a finished product may be a different story.

"Great"? They are neither greater or lesser, they just "are". They may be great, but that's not a consumer judgement to consider - consumers don't generally have this level of knowledge, nor do I expect them to.

MANY people make the precise same things Samsung make - Samsung are not outstanding, they're just well known, which causes cognitive bias...

anything other than the skinnyest of skinny jeans and u will be more than ok with a 5in screen...

You must be male. I'm a woman who wears size 6 boot cut and skinny jeans and don't like to have my phone in my pocket for extended periods. Girls' pockets are not as deep as guys' pockets and it feels weird on my hip when walking.

have 6 female co-workers that have a variation of the Note, all love it, none put them in pockets, none complain about using with one hand

the real world is quite different than the internet it seems

It seems to be an age thing. These women you work with probably carry purses. I do when I'm not at school, and my phone goes in the purse when it's not in my coat pocket. But at school I have a backpack, so I keep my phone in my pocket for easier access. When I wear a jacket it's not an issue, but it's a challenge in the warmer months. And NO WAY is it going in my back pocket. That's how the teenagers get cracked screens and bent phones.

So suffice to say a phone like the Note would not fit into my life at all. My eyes are fine at 22 years old, and I don't watch movies on my phone. You're not wrong for wanting your larger screen, but don't tell me I'm wrong for wanting a smaller phone.

And Apple is well known too which undoubtedly causes some consumer bias. :)

Such a radical notion you speak of - do you not realise that most people on MR are only willing to rationalise and discuss the SEEN products that they know of? Don't confuse the internet with rationale - that's incomprehensible to people - they just click a website link, then click a few more, and if the all-knowing Google doesn't mention it, it therefore "doesn't exist", and they can't fathom that things ALSO come IN THE FUTURE - careful, you're going to make many folk's heads explode with all this simple logic and common sense :p

People buy ANY old junk; thankfully, Apple products are not junk.

Whatever. Perhaps people should cease to use the phrase "customers do not know what they want" in the same patagraphs as what we are discussing here, large screen phones, which do exist.

I think a little bigger screen option seems just fine. When it comes to the price...consumers just need to understand the fact that you get what you pay for.

$500+ = iPhones......$500- = other phones

You can't build a really great phone and sell it for sub 500, I am guessing. I am talking the full hardware retail cost(unlocked).

Also(and I might get grilled for this), I think we as consumers have gotten very comfortable wih these carrier subsidized prices. I mean, what if carriers did not offer these kinds of prices? We need to remember that carriers are giving the world some great pricing options. My point being why are people demanding lower prices? How low do they expect a really great phone to sell for? These companies can't give away this stuff. To make great hardware, there comes a premium you have to pay to get it.

i thought Jobs already teach these guys not to see the market trend...these ppl are indeed bozos! you guys already stretch iP5 into 4" and now you want to stretch it further!! heck, why not just add a built-in speaker called ipad mini an iPhone 6? donkey!

My mind blanked you at "whatever" - that's extremely ignorant, please do not talk to me like that, thanks.

They are not junk but they are certainly a long way from error amd issue free. There are many non Apple products that ar not junk, junk is such a sad word to use.

Where is that information from because 1 GB of RAM handles anything you throw at that processor. Now in a bunch of android devices, they have 2 GB of RAM and the second gigabyte is rarely touched or utilized. As you said, "Innovation means nothing when it can barely be utilized."
the constantly refreshing tabs in safari is proof enough for me. What would be your excuse for safari tab reloads?

If Apple doesn't make a cheaper phone when subsides end, its market share will look like its computer market share.

I'm getting the impression that you think having low market share is some kind of bad thing.

Why? Is there some contest where you have to get the most market share?

Apple only sells relatively expensive computers... and they're a single company. Meanwhile... there are a dozen other companies selling cheaper Windows computers.

Are you shocked that Apple doesn't have high computer market share?

Market share doesn't really mean much in the grand scheme of things.

Remember when HP and Dell... the two largest PC manufacturers at the time ... were both thinking about getting out of the PC market because there wasn't any money in it? But wait... they sell more computers than Apple and have more market share than Apple. Weird, huh.

Did you know that Toyota is the largest automobile manufacturer in the world? Did you also know that Honda isn't even in the top 5 ?

Honda has roughly the same market share in automobiles as Apple has in the computer market. Is that so bad?

I did not say ALL products are junk - I said people buy any old junk - many DO. Therein is the HUGE difference in what I said and what you perceived I said.

Junk may be a "sad" word, but it's true - you're not alive on planet earth if you deny it.

Apple needs a larger screen, and widget support on the iPhone. I've had the iPhone 4, 4S, 5, and 5s. Apple lost me this week to the HTC One M8. Fantastic phone and in most ways, aside from the camera, is better than the iPhone. Hopefully the turd that is iOS 7 gets polished a bit more and they play catch up with the iPhone 6.

I just don't see what's 'unfortunate' with apple offering a choice in screen size?

will the rumor being that the new models will be 4.7 and 5.5 inches, that doesn't leave much choice for people who want a smaller screen. and people won't settle for a 5s at $99 (though that is a pretty good deal)

I know AT&T would like to follow T-Mobile with the unsubsidized model, but until Verizon gets on board, it's no dice.

Currently AT&T has 10GB of data for $100, and if you bring your own device or purchase with their Next method, it costs $15 to add each handset to the plan. Two users share 10Gb for $130, 4 users for $160. I think they are leaning more and more to no subsidies. I think Verizon just matched the 4 line plan, but not for anything lower. And I don't think Verizon allows you to bring your own device.

Exactly.

It's people faulty assumption that Apple WANT to have a larger market share, that makes their arguments laughable. Listen folks... APPLE ARE HAPPY, if YOU are not happy with Apple being happy, you need counselling.

I'm definitely up for the less expensive part of larger and cheaper. I just bought a brand new Moto G (GSM, 3G only, no LTE) for less than $200 to add to the framily collection. That could have been an iPhone 5c.

Gotta love the double standards here.

Yep.

With exceptions, a lot of this is one side versus the other. Factor that with some being high or low on the fanboy or fan club, mix in some who feel put down or compromised if disagreed with, and there you go.

Discussion would be quite good. many of this topic is not a case of a right or wrong answer, as its personal choice. We have guys here wanting a 3.5 and girls wanting a Note 3 size iPhone.

even more

You might not have large hands then if 4.3 inch was "painful".

I consider myself to have large hands and the area I've highlighted on my Note 3 indicates the parts I can reach with one hand. And this is a 5.7 inch screen. That top curve is where my thumb can stretch to.

There is also the One-handed operation feature that shrinks the screen.
