4> If you have check for automatic updates, the update "reminder" has no dismiss/quit/never option. You either tell it to BUG YOU tomorrow or do it right then or turn off checking for automatic updates.... ANNOYING AS HELL.

Try swiping or dragging it to the right.

I'll try that next time. I forgot another "bug" I once encountered back in Leopard and perhaps Snow Leopard but has reared its ugly head once again. Since upgrading to XBMC 12.3, it asks me every single time I run it if I want to accept incoming connections for XBMC and that I can adjust this setting in the Firewall. The problem is that it's already in the Firewall and Mavericks just IGNORES the setting there and asks every single time anyway. I remember this happening long ago in Leopard or whatever (for many apps, not necessarily XBMC) and it was annoying as hell then and it's annoying as hell now. I don't even remember what I did to get rid of it back then, but based on comments in the XBMC forums I'm not the only one with this problem. Since XBMC isn't a signed app it won't auto-register, but that doesn't mean that OSX should just ignore your Firewall settings for it. I've tried deleting the plist file and starting over, etc. and to no avail. It just keeps pestering me every time I run it and it SUCKS.

I like Airmail. It's a pretty slick email client. Doesn't do autoconfig (if your provider offers it, like Polarismail) like Thunderbird, though.

I mentioned how awful I think mail is on a recent visit to an Apple store and the Apple person I was talking with, without missing a beat, said "just use Google mail, it's what we all do." :apple:

While I'm not dismissing that people are having issues, what you said the Apple employees said is hearsay.

Maybe I'm just lucky, but Mail has been fine on mavericks for me...

Me 2, I'm not part of this "Mavericks sucks Pity Party". Mail has been great for me. I don't use Gmail, I just use iCloud and Yahoo Mail with the Mail client.

Can't say I disagree. Podcasts app became garbage with iOS7. Unlistened to episodes randomly disappearing and reappearing.

I thought that this was a problem only I had, as I didn't see much online about it.
It's so damn frustrating. I used to use the app to listen to professional updates, and know that I was getting them in the right order. Now I never know what I'm going to get next...

I haven't seen anyone else complain about this yet, and I didn't notice this at first so I'm not sure if it started with Mavericks, but is anyone else having attachment issues? When I attach a simple jpeg it seems to take a while to get added to the message, and then the recipient usually can't open it. If I use Gmail's web based interface to send the same file it usually works fine.

I sure do miss the Apple I once knew. The one that got things a LOT closer to ready-for-primetime before releasing them.

Really? Which Apple did you once know that's different than the Apple of today?

Oh, you mean you miss THAT Apple when the iPhone 4's antenna was poorly designed?

Oh you mean you miss THAT Apple when the iMac G4 had a tilting screen that never stood straight...until they stopped creating it?

Oh you mean you miss THAT Apple when Snow Leopard was a train wreak from the start?

Oh you mean you miss THAT Apple when the 12" Powerbook had serious overheating issues that never ended until they stopped making it?

Oh you mean you miss THAT Apple when the Powerbook 5300 smoked to flames?

Oh you mean you miss THAT Apple when Mac OS X Jaguar had missing text in Safari and broken ethernet ports that were working BEFORE 10.2.5, then later fixed in 10.2.8 just before Apple discontinued Jaguar?

Oh you mean you miss THAT Apple that somehow didn't know how to create a quiet fan in the PowerMac DP that sounded like a hairdryer until they discontinued it?

Oh you mean you miss THAT Apple that made the iPod Nano that scratched up insensately by simply placing it in your pocket?

Oh you mean you miss THAT Apple that created OS9 which had consistent crashing problems and the lack of loading extensions?

Oh you mean you miss THAT Apple that made the PowerMac G4 Cube that quickly ended in cracks in the plastic without any customer intervention?

Oh yeah, THAT was the Apple to miss back in the day. ;)

Don't forget the yellow screen problem that Apple had on many Macbooks when they first went to LED backlit screens (think the 2008 machines first showed them; I got lucky with mine not having that problem, but many others did). I recall some funky keyboard problem they had that year too with it not working right with the internal keyboard on Macbook Pros which a firmware update took care of eventually. 2008 machines were also notorious for GPU failures but that was largely NVidia's fault (got lucky there also; mine has been fine all along so far, but one of my cooling fans has a bearing going bad and need's replaced or perhaps lubed).

What i find mind boggling is, that while Mail on OSX is having problems for a long time, the Mail App on iOS works in comparison much better. Apple can't fix this?

I think this is a simpler fix. I have had a few employees run into this issue.

In Mail.app in 10.9, Apple implemented a new option under Mail Preferences/General/Check for new messages. There is an "Automatically" option which, I believe, doesn't work right.

Simply switch that to "Every minute" and (at least in my experience) the problem is solved.

Yeah I already tried that with no luck. The issue still arises where it either doesn't decide to sync or there are connection issues which forces me to remove the account and add it again..

The native Mail application isn't a bad one, but Apple really needs to fix these issues..

Why are we not calling Mavericks what it is: the lesser Windows Vista of the OS X world. :D

I'm so glad I'm not the only one still experiencing issues with Mail. Mine has never been the same since upgrading to Mavericks last year. I've tried rebuilding mailboxes, reconfiguring, and every other little trick I know of that's worked in the past. Restarting Mail and/or restarting my computer does fix the problems temporarily, but they continue again after a few hours.

I finally bit the bullet and went to using Gmail full-time in my browser. After some growing pains, I've found it to be an amazingly versatile service. Now I know why so many people love it.

It does bug me having ads in my email, and I still prefer Apple's Mail interface, but this is 2014—Apple should know how to make an email program that works.

Now that I use Gmail, I probably won't switch back to Mail, even if Apple finally does fix it for good. It's such a disappointment, as I really had become a power-user of Mail's smart filters and folders. Gmail does offer similar filtering, but I found Apple's to be more robust and I even had some unique systems for sorting mail.

You say that, but you haven't dealt with the Gmail UI switches or slowness. A lot of us have been using Gmail for 10+ years, in Mail, because we also use 1-2 other email accounts. For example, I use an Exchange account, iCloud, and Google Apps account in Mail.app. Unified inbox is way better than letting Gmail check your POP3 inside the web app.

Although, I'll probably be leaving Gmail for Fastweb for philosophical reasons (them cancelling XMPP federation, etc.). But just wanted to point out that "Gmail in the browser" isn't necessarily the only alternative to a poorly functioning Mail.app experience. Try Airmail or Postbox.

Because it is not?

I said a "lesser" version because compared to other Apple releases this one is riddled with critical usability bugs and didn't add much to the picture from ML. Then again, Apple isn't known for being quick to fix nuisance bugs either, several iterations of 10.X have had nuisances that don't get fixed. I assume because Apple rotates their top talent to new projects, leaving the institutional knowledge to be re-learned for each OS X component.

I am not downgrading or anything, but it is quite a nuisance. Even things like how Mavericks now handles usability/security of apps (for things like Synergy) is akin to Vista UAC breaking apps left and right and forcing developers to work for months to fix it. :apple:

I had ZERO issues with my iPhone 4.

Never owned an iMac G4 because it was BUTT UGLY!

Never had a problem with Snow Leopard.

Never owned a 12" PowerBook.

Never owned a PowerBook 5300.

Never had issues with Jaguar.

Owned a PowerMac DP and never felt the fan was too noisy.

Never owned an iPod Nano.

Never had problems with OS 9.

Never owned a PowerMac G4 Cube.

And I was talking about SOFTWARE, not hardware. And I'm feeling particularly annoyed with Apple right now because of this:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1701375/

Which is 100% a SOFTWARE issue.

Snow Leopard should be default OS installed in every MAC.

Wow! You NEVER owned those things and you felt the need to tell us!!!! WoooHoo. Let me be the first to say we don't give a flying crap. In case you can't figure it out, NOT owning something doesn't mean Apple didn't have problems with those devices. Not owning something is not a valid rebuttal to Apple being far from perfect. I never owned a Gremlin. That doesn't mean they wouldn't catch on fire!

I never have any of the problems or bugs people have with Apple stuff.

Every year for eons. lol Horse shoe up my azz.

iOS is a different matter.

I experienced some Mail related bugs in 10.9.1, however on the latest 10.9.2 beta non of my Mac's have repeated such errors. Hope this is released soon for you guys.

It's easy enough to quit and relaunch the app. The big problem that I'm having is that search doesn't work. When I search for e-mails sent to or from a particular person it consistently misses a large number of them. It's pretty much useless.

Agreed. I've tried rebuilding my mailboxes, restarting Mail, rebooting my Mac mini, etc. Nothing seems to solve it.

While 10.9 is above and beyond 10.7 and 10.8, I do miss Bertrand Serlet. His work with 10.4 - 10.6 was stellar.

I'm glad Apple is focusing on power systems and less eye candy. I loathe(d) "Mission Control" when introduced in 10.7. Thankfully, many third party apps such as "TotalSpaces" bring back features removed or modified. 10.9 is about as close to 10.6 as we're gonna get with a few third party apps.

I just started using Apple Mail for the first time (always used webmail or thunderbird before).

I was going crazy trying to figure out why my mail wasn't showing up, and just thought it was a quirk of Mail in general. Guess it is a Mavericks bug. good to know I'm not insane.

I was just about to ask if it was safe to upgrade to mavericks but I guess the answer is no lol. Weird they can't even get the basics working.

Be interesting to know what's going on behind the scenes and how many people are still developing for osx and is it just a bunch of interns?
