Lala would have to shut down before Apple started using its features. Hopefully this means that Apple will have a big announcement about streaming during WWDC. I don't think Lala was a so much of a significant threat to Apple that they'd buy it just to shut it down permanently.

If they DO introduce streaming, I hope it's via 3G and not just WiFi, but I feel like it'll just be WiFi.

and what about...

...Simplify Media/Music shut their doors to new customers in March. They allowed you to stream your own iTunes library to your iPhone/iPod via 3g/wifi, as well as sharing it with a few friends. When they announced they were closing their doors they said they'd provide the service for the next three months - so mid-June - but that they couldn't share their plans for the future. Friend sharing stopped straight away.

I'm really hoping that this is the "iTunes in a cloud" announcement, and that some of the people who have spent their time and money creating businesses that Apple are shutting down/replacing/embracing are making a decent amount of cash out of it!

What I will miss, and what Apple surely will not bring back even if it does re-brand lala is the opportunity to preview the complete song, not just a random 30 second clip.

By being able to listen to a whole song before buying I bought more because I knew exactly what I was getting. I will buy much fewer single songs now b/c 30 secs doesn't do it for me. But I understand since we are all thieves and surely would rather burn up ten minutes of our lives to record a crappy sounding version vs. paying a few cents and getting it decently encoded instantly. Frickin' wake up music execs. Wake the F up.

i'm having a hard time liking apple right now. i LOVED lala. I'm about to sell my imac and leave this cult for good.

Lala was terrific - I would love to see it integrated in iTunes as soon as WWDC - but I suspect there is going to be ANY announcements outside of next gen iPhone and iPhone OS 4.0.

This might be part of their september media event when they would introduce the new iPods and "iTunes on the cloud" as a new member in team mobile me.

The new Apple is even worse than Microsoft. Closing competition and closing even iPhone OS and probably the Mac if they can. Just imagine a world without Microsoft and only Apple. Time to switch to Windows?

I was just about to mention Simplify as well. As I recall, it is only speculation and conjecture that Apple bought Simplify a few weeks ago, but assuming for giggles that Apple did, I like to believe Apple wanted to lock down streaming technology (vis-a-vis your home computer or "the cloud") for the simple reasons of (1) getting away for the need for massive hard drives, and (2) giving Apple yet another leg up on other MP3 players/Droids/tablets, etc.

I dread the idea that Apple is simply using its m-a-s-s-i-v-e pile of cash to buy and bury potential competitors.

Kinda a lame troll. I ain't going to switch back to M$ crap.

Steve Jobs has stated they have no plans for a closed MacStore.

They bought Lala months ago - not to run as it stood but to merge it in to iTune I suspect. Expect an announcement soon.

Well, iPhone OS 4.0 has already be announced - so that leaves only the new iPhone to debut at WWDC. I expect Lala's technology will be discussed soon.

This was to be expected – Apple will soon introduce a new cloud-based streaming service, enabling iTunes store accounts to listen to their music [with your own playlist(s)] anywhere, on any device. Great move.

The new Apple is even worse than Microsoft. Closing competition...

This is nothing to do with competition. This is to do with Lala having the tools and people that provide a service which Apple wants to use to evolve iTunes. Lala wasn't bought to get rid of competition.

If Lala had a good system in place for something Apple intended to do with iTunes anyway, then OF COURSE Apple would buy Lala. It ensures a system that will work and is much quicker than Apple dedicating R&D time and money to coming up with their own system.

It's the same with Siri and whatever chip company Apple just bought; these are projects that are already in place. Why waste time and money developing your own systems which may fall short when you can just buy existing ones that you KNOW are good?

Damn you Apple!!! I remember signing up for lala when it first began streaming music and offering 50 song credits when you make an account last year. Then late last year you acquired lala so I thought "Well this must be good news they must be planning to do something great with it." BUT THEN YOU JUST SHUT IT DOWN??!!!?!?!?!!!!! WHAT!!!???!!!!??!!!!!

Just what I was thinking, seems perfect timing for a big announcement at WWDC.

I can't imagine that's it's not related in some way.

Still not sure if there Lala is in any way link to the shutdown at Simplify Media, but they seem to be implying their brand will still be around. With Lala it's obvious that the brand is going away.

I guess because Simplify's shutdown and Lala's shutdown seem to be handled differently it's hard to say both are being handled by Apple.

What's LaLa? LOL

Anyway, just take some of their ideas and tech and use them to make iTunes better, hopefully. Otherwise, Apple bought them. They can do what they like with them.

That's how these things go.

Showing their true face

Apple's new wave fascism, accompanied by more and more ugly products, is breaking through. Is Jobs really still in charge ?
Let's hope the market will resurrect them soon.
