Yeah, imagine that. It's been around for decades and is called Radio and TV. Things that nobody wants to use anymore - because - of the ads.

No, because of the programming. Well, and the crappy ads.

:apple: can do whatever they please with stuff they own.

some have mentioned Grooveshark, which is incredible. They have an iPhone/iTouch App, but Apple, of course, has blocked it from being in the App Store. Seems like Apple blocks great stuff long enough for them to come up with their own version. i.e. grooveshark to lala. beh.

Apple's new wave fascism, accompanied by more and more ugly products, is breaking through. Is Jobs really still in charge ?
Let's hope the market will resurrect them soon.

How is that fascism? For all we know Apple could do something absolutely incredible with the employees of Lala.

Apple's new wave fascism,

WTF are you talking about? Fascism?? LOL

Apple bought a company. They'll do what they want with them. Probably take some ideas to make iTunes better. Otherwise, big friggin deal. Up until they first made news, I never even heard of LaLa anyway. LOL who did?? I guess the owners saw a chance to cash in (especially if the company was struggling) and they jumped on it. Hopefully, they're on a beach somewhere in Tahiti sipping mai tais, probably not caring what Apple does with LaLa.

What on earth are you people whining about? Did you really think that Apple bought Lala for their current product? No. They bought them to add talent to their iTunes-team. iTunes might at some point offer similar functionality, but Apple had ZERO interest in running Lala's current service.

I'm quite amazed that this comes as a surprise to you...

Flash based LaLa

Did the LaLa site use Flash? No wonder it was shut down, it was an Apple owned site running an application with the dreaded Flash.

Apple, stop buying ****. It's frightening to think that your product will consistently be the most attractive and innovative, but also the most expensive, only due to your rapid acquisition of smaller companies that provide said innovation.

I don't want to keep buying your stuff forever.

Was there any real point for Apple to keep the service going? Especially since they've already got iTunes??

Think in business terms for once, people. Geez . . .

I loved Lala... too bad Apple's shutting it down. Hopefully they make an announcement at WWDC regarding what their streaming plan is.

Looks like I'll be switching to Grooveshark for now...

grow up...

Thanks Steve!

Great job mate :)

Not...

petty jelousy???

or do you forget that apple has a responsibility to it's stockholders???

I am sure they will use the manpower and resources that was LALA to give everyone some amazing service/products...

grow up, this is the way of the world...

Or, they could have just bought them to shut them down because they were compteting with iTunes. Only time will tell.

WTF are you talking about? Fascism?? LOL

So, just because you never heard of them, no one else has? LOL, indeed. Truth is, a lot of people knew about this service. Anyone who has ever searched a song's title on Google would have heard about them. They are an excellent service. If you wanted to hear a song, you just google it and you could stream it over the net.

I don't get all the negative votes on this story. This is good news, people! Apple is planning to do something major with LaLa soon!

People are voting negative because they will not be able to take advantage of an excellent service soon. Nowhere does it say that Apple will be replacing it with something better. It's much too soon to tell. However, the past tells us that Apple will use it just to fatten their bottom line. Whether or not customers will benefit is entirely uinknown.

Signed up for a lala account many months ago and never found any use for it.

I'm sure whatever they are going to add to iTunes has more chance of being useful, so yay.

When will Apple acquire Microsoft and shut it down for the releasing of a new holy feline system?

I'm actually  right now. Apple better be planning something amazing with LaLa or I will flip the f**k out. $1.29 is waaaaay too much for a song. I still do it tho cuz it's Apple. /addict

Gotta be!

He better, its not like he can show off the new iphone that everybody has now seen, haha. I can't wait for the show, and here is the iphone we all have seen in full dram online. :D

Oh please Jobs have the engineer forget to pick up the phone on stage, haha, now that be a trip. ;)

ok, I've never said this before, but as someone who has been using lala now for 2 years, I'm going to go ahead and say it.

and probably get banned.

**** you, apple.

Sorry dude, but your not part of Apples demographics, you do know that how it works, a company picks a demographic and goes after that. I don't think Apple and Steve really care about the low end customer, its not in their blood. :apple:

This is just me writing about an idea, no basis in truth (though I hope people can see where Im coming from)

Within iTunes is the option to use Apple Genius. This 'knows' all the songs within your iTunes library. Say if Apple could use this data so you can stream a copy of a song you own on iTunes from a centralised Apple server (a copy of each song is held by Apple). This removes the need for large capacity iPhones/ iPod Touches/ iPads. Just a thought, but would seem like a natural evolution.

I see your point, but how does that help when his DSL is down, or the power goes out? I will keep my 5,000 songs locally and download to my iphone or ipad as needed. Given slow data rates once I leave a 3G area and get on edge, cloud streaming would be very fustrating to me. I can put plenty on my iphone and when I get my ipad (this or next weekend) - I can put more than enough music on it to last me a while.

I only stream very little from the internet, usually that is certain times of day when certain speakers are on...

Apple buying and destroying companies....they're quickly becoming the old Microsoft. Going to be fun watching Apple fall under the weight of their own tyrannical idiocy. Mostly it's just fun watching the Apple fanbabies defend these actions.

Before everyone starts yelling n screaming that lala is gonna be shut down. Jus think about it for a second. Apple are in a phase of acquiring small start ups n enveloping them into the current apple ecosystem. Look at intrinsity, n pa semi for some idea as what I'm talking about.

They want to increase the functionality of iTunes, but keep it secret, and add a new dimension to it's current store offerings.. The easiest way to do that as far as apple is concerned, in both business terms n os/software terms. Is to buy a company that already has that functionality in their service. Enter lala. :)

haha, I don't think apple would buy if they did not have a plan, so I guess either we are missing something or they are bringing their own LALA but with much cooler name.

Itune On Demand maybe?
