From everything that I can see it is comparable...but for the life of me I cant find my single favorite feature, hour-by-hour chance of rain %age...I lived by that.
I never used Dark Sky, as I became accustomed to Weather Underground previously. It has the hourly percentage you want.

I don't know what Apple has done with Dark Sky, but it used to be very, very reliable and accurate. The last 3 to 4 months it's next to useless giving very inaccurate forecasts and constantly tells me its raining when it isn't.

This has now spilled into the Apple weather app where it is giving me notifications that rain is due or that it is raining when it's not.

How can Apple screw things up like this? Surely all they had to do was merge Dark Sky's data sources into the native app.

Weather prediction in general is not what it used to be. This year didn’t even have a normal hurricane season. I’d imagine a lot of orgs are tweaking their models to adjust.

Apple Weather has gotten better since the acquisition of Dark Sky but oddly enough I get different results...Temp/Precipitation/etc with Weather and Dark Sky. I find Dark Sky to be more accurate than Apple Weather.

I really wish Apple would have added in all the Hourly charts like Temp, humidity, precipitation, wind, etc that Dark Sky has.
Completely agree. I've had the new weather app for ONE day and I already see how the hyper local rain notifications are still not as good as Dark Sky.

One of my concerns is that they keep hyping up the hurricane season every year, yet not much ends up happening. I worry it's going to be like "crying wolf" and when a bad storm does come, people are going to ignore it.

Dark Sky provided information regarding 'Precip Prob (%) which is useful but not the crucial data which is 'Precip Rate (CM/HR). You could see a 40% probability of rain but with a precipitation rate of 0 (zero). This is available on a 7 day forecast and is immensely useful and was presented with simple beauty. And it worked on iPad. Apple is taking on all the hallmarks of a rogue developer with deep pockets and a disregard for users, particularly in the case of iPad Dark Sky users.

Monopoly power in action!!! This is why we need aggressive anti-trust action by the feds. You should not be able to purchase your best competitor and then shut them down. It limits innovation and consumer choice.
What if Dark Sky was happy to be bought out?

I mean, I get what you're saying but we should not ALWAYS jump to the worst-case scenario.

Edit: The use of the term "monopoly" here is dubious at best.

It was by far my favorite weather app- hyper local, hourly forecasts with amazon radar maps. But I think apple has intentionally made it extremely inaccurate the last few months to start to get people to switch over. I'm using Carrot now but not in love with it...

They did in IOS 16. Click on s day and there is a little icon in the right top corner where you choose other charts

Anyone else like me?
I recall being super let down when apple acquired it and I was still on android and I lost access.
I then purchased it as soon as I switched to iPhone.
And now just like that, they are taking it away again.

Can anyone give a good explanation as to why there is no consumer choice in this case?

Probably will be an iOS 17+ addition with better weather app with more of Dark Sky features, which is unfortuante but that's the Apple way.

Apple weather STILL doesn't have sun prediction! See here for a screenshot

Nor (unlike dark sky which can!) go to a day and see the prediction for rain as a percentage
I use Weather Strip as one of my go to apps. Great presentation for many things such as clouds. It doesn't have radar though. I'll miss Dark Sky, I still haven't found anything that has the radar as nice as that one.

Apple Weather has all of that now as of iOS 16. Most of Dark Sky’s capabilities have been added.

not really a monopoly there are still many different weather apps you can use plus you can delete the default weather app from your phone and download another one

It's only September, let's not count our chickens before they're hatched. Still plenty of time for destructive weather in the Gulf Coast/SE US. Euro mod has two potential troublemakers to keep an eye on right now, actually... sigh.

I've come to depend on Dark Sky quite a lot when out riding my motorcycle. I'll miss the UI, but the Weather app (even before iOS 16) hasnt been too bad.
