Maybe we'll get something out of Pixelmator, but Photomator is probably going to be folded into Apple Photos in one form or fashion.
Since Apple Photos is getting worse and worse, junking it and replacing it with the far superior Photomator would be the right move…but we all know that won’t happen.

well, I'm thrilled to report this 'pro' app (3.6.18) is the first to keep crashing on my base M4 Pro machine - can't it handle large (50mb!) image files? and the half-baked functions, all very toy Illustrator.

Have you tried version 3.7?

I try to avoid anything furnished with AI, and I don't suppose this kind of behaviour was due to a bug that got fixed?
Pixelmator Pro uses CoreML for ages - what do you think the masking in your preferred 3.6.x version is based on? you are probably referring to the playground integration and writing tools in 3.7? There is indeed IMHO not much to gain from the »Play«ground in »IMHO«; I have no option how well writing tools work in PP. Any can chip 8n on that functionality?

I don't really know what's based on what in 3.6.18, which is the only one I tried, all I know is that in 3.7 release they boast about 'support for Apple Intelligence', but I find even the basic functions lacking, so not really bothered.

Version 3.7.1 just released.

"This update contains bug fixes and performance improvements."

And there we have it! The exciting news we've been asked to wait for.

At this point I think only "stay tuned" if you can handle this level of excitement.

It will be part of a subscription model, but also one time purchase.

  • One-time-purchase versions of Final Cut Pro ($299.99 U.S.), Logic Pro ($199.99 U.S.), Pixelmator Pro ($49.99 U.S.), Motion ($49.99 U.S.), Compressor ($49.99 U.S.), and MainStage ($29.99U.S.) are available on the Mac App Store.

That won't give you Pages, Numbers, Freeform et cetera.

In a better world - Apple would bring back from the dead Aperture and meld it with Pixelmator Pro so that there is a DAM and both raw and other file editing. Along with this hooks into various AI systems. They won't do it of course because Adobe will make things difficult as before.

Unless the AI sub only versions re so much better I see little reason to subscribe; but then again I have all teh sub apps already.

I agree, there's littl eincentive to subscribe for those apps with hardly great additions to them:

Keynote, Pages, and Numbers: A new Content Hub provides access to high-quality photos and graphics, and there are new premium templates and themes.

Curious about the one-time purchases - will these be the same programs or a separate stand-alone version?

I am comparing to MS Office that is available as stand-alone but does not recieve any updates. Not that pixemlmator gets many updates anyway, but if the stand-alones are separate programs they can be on a separate cadence and get broken by a OS update, requiring you to do another stand-alone purchase (aka hidden subscription model)

Having had teh standalone for several years, they have not been broken by an OS upgrade and have been updated. How that changes will reman to be seen, but I suspect Apple will update them for a while at least. I suspect in the future more super bundles with AppleCare+, iCloud, etc. all in one bundle.

I wish Microsoft would buy up Pixlr E and replace Paint with it. It's my favourite editing software. Reasonably powerful, yet easier to use than Photoshop.

Is it subscription based? Is it available on macOS and Windows 11?

Edit: oh, I see it is web based software. I usually prefer solution that run on-device, rather than in the cloud. However, it could be a good solution for those on less powerful machines.

Yeah, it's web based. I have an app which it starts on Windows so you don't need to go through a browser. But what I meant was that they'd implement it in the system and not the web. Right now you can only save three times without a sub, so I mostly use it when I want to make a funny pic online.
