Is it subscription based? Is it available on macOS and Windows 11?

Edit: oh, I see it is web based software. I usually prefer solution that run on-device, rather than in the cloud. However, it could be a good solution for those on less powerful machines.

Same here. On device means not having to rely on web access.

Just curious, a little off topic but I saw some mentions of good old Aperture (would love to see it again also).

But in its place, has anyone tried the app Eagle? It's a pretty good DAM, lots of features and pretty fast, even though it is an Electron app. Which yes, I despise every Electron app there is, but honestly, Eagle is super fast and very capable.

Was just curious if anyone else uses it or what DAM you're currently using along side things like Pixelmator, etc?

No disagreeing with you on this app but you might want to check out Affinity Photo as it is legitimately FREE ware now.
Wow, I have no idea how I had completely missed this app. Thanks for the recommendation! This together with Da Vinci Resolve has made creative pursuits really affordable.

Having had teh standalone for several years, they have not been broken by an OS upgrade and have been updated. How that changes will reman to be seen, but I suspect Apple will update them for a while at least. ...
Thanks for the reply!
I quite recently bought Pixelmator pro from the apple store, knowing it was a gamble but still sad and worried they will pull apart the two versions and basically abandon the purchase-version and use it as a bridge into subscription.

In the past, I have had both Pixelmator 1 and Pixelmator 3 getting bricked by OS-updates (and I usually hold out as long as possible moving to new macos) so in my history the purchased versions have only lived a few years each.

In a better world - Apple would bring back from the dead Aperture and meld it with Pixelmator Pro so that there is a DAM and both raw and other file editing. Along with this hooks into various AI systems. They won't do it of course because Adobe will make things difficult as before.
Aperture was (and still is) my favorite photo app.

Still haven’t found a replacement I like better.

Biggest disappointment with the new bundle is a lack of Photomator…however…they didn’t kill it…so there is still hope.

#1 feature request for Photos (or Photomator) on my list is to have multiple libraries (similar to shared library) that you can select and manage.

Would love more advanced library and editing features like Lightroom.

Photomator is great, but not sure how they expect anyone to buy into it at this point? I've tried it, liked it but didn't get a subscription. I was on the fence, but now after this Pixelmator move, I'm not risking buying Photomator.

I don't know what else Apple expected?

lol, paying for keyboard shortcuts?! Guess I’ll be moving on in the next year or so.

Yea, I've had Pixelmator since it came out. I used it to edit photos and create various graphics/svgs for 3D printing. I don't really need new features but the whole move to subscription leaves me uneasy. It's not that I haven't got my money's worth with free upgrades over the years, just wondering how long it will hang around and keep working with OS updates.

Affinity Photo looks interesting.

I have been using Affinity Photo (and a couple of other photo related apps for awhile). I like Affinity Photo before it went free. Later, they merged it with a couple of sister apps and while it is logical what they did, it in't quite as intuitive as before. I do believe it is the best deal around even if they still charged what they did before. Most of the work I have been doing is more related to photo restoration. However, I have used it with files from iPhone and other sources and it works quite well. A good combo is Affinity Photo with Topaz studio.

Most of the time, Apple acquires and then vaporizes a great product and since they now own it lock, stock and barrel they can do something or nothing with it. The existing customer base before Apple bought the product usually gets serviced like the stallion serviced the mare.

To make things more interesting: DaVinci Resolve 21 (beta) enters the RAW developer and DAM market with its new Photo room - also included in the free version.

Looks quite impressive.
