I love Pixelmator. I also use Affinity, but I actually love Pixelmator. And once in a blue moon I'll still bother firing up photoshop, but only when absolutely necessary.

I'm glad Apple bought them before yet another genius tech investor showed up and ruined it via neglect and the subscription racket. Just don't #$% this one up Apple, and I mean keep your "engagement maximization" ui designers away from it.

Apple has reached an agreement to acquire Pixelmator, the company behind popular photo and image editing apps Pixelmator Pro, Pixelmator for iOS, and Photomator. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval, according to an announcement made by the Pixelmator team on Friday.

Based in Vilnius, Lithuania, Pixelmator has developed a suite of well-regarded creative tools that compete with Adobe's offerings while maintaining a focus on ease of use and performance. The company's apps have been exclusively available on Apple's platforms, including Mac, iPad, and iPhone.

In their announcement, the Pixelmator team expressed enthusiasm about joining Apple, noting that they've been "inspired by Apple since day one" and have aimed to craft their products with a similar focus on design and user experience. The team believes the acquisition will help them reach a broader audience and increase their impact on creative professionals worldwide.

For current Pixelmator users, the company stated there will be "no material changes" to their existing apps at this time, though they teased "exciting updates to come." Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The deal marks Apple's latest investment in professional creative tools, following previous acquisitions in the space such as Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro.

This will be an absolute disaster, I used Dark Sky before Apple purchased it and dumbed it down They made it a joke, now I look out of the window and make a guess what is happening.

Cool. Now we have the power of Apple Intelligence being applied to another great software application. Based on their history, I can only assume Pixelmator and Photomator are going to be industry-leading products very shortly.

This is really quite disheartening. Pixelmator is one of the first applications I install on a new Mac and it's disappointing to know that Apple will ruin it because they can't seem to figure software out.

Please, let that be a sign that Aperture will be back and the pro app lineup will be back to what it was!

It’d be hard to replace photoshop because of the plugins, but if I can replace Lightroom WITHOUT a subscription, that’d be nice

I hope you’re right, and I agree with you. Unfortunately, once Apple takes hold of something, they often add extra features. 🤦

The Pixelmator team adds features almost nonstop after releasing an app. If Apple wasn't acquiring them, would you have wanted that to stop…?

What do they have that apple couldn't figure out?
Does Pixelmator have any benefits over photoshop?
I'd like to know what their strategy is that drove them to make this purchase. I doubt the revenue is enough to move the needle on Apple's profits.

I wonder if the Pixelmator folks were struggling and Apple didn't want to see such an important (to Apple) developer fail.

If they keep Pixelmator working close to as is this will be the competition that Apple needs go against Adobe and the others. I use On1 but I would gladly use Apple version of Pix if they don't screw it up. Pay once and done like FCP.

Adobe must be in quite a horrid state...

I do not see Apple doing this unless Adobe is not onboard anymore, or else Adobe is threatening to pull out because of Apple doing Ai imaging with their Ai implementations. The fact Apple bought Pixelmator likely means Adobe is pretty much out or trying to threaten Apple. OR Apple is telling Adobe they are in fact expendable. Good.

Adobe is crap and they deserve to go down for the anti costumer crap they have been pulling since forever.

Pixelmator is one of the best out there, but I prefer Affinity.

When was the last time Apple bought an app and made the app subscription based? Don't they usually Sherlock them into the OS?
And Pixelmator isn't on Windows, so there's nothing to worry about per say.

I don't read . just commenting on other people's posts here. Those saying goodbye to and claiming subscription.

This worries me. But I have hope. I love Pixelmator Pro. I've had it since day one. I use it as a prosumer, but a very basic one.
If the interface could be simplified a little, that'd help me a lot.
I know not everyone will feel the same.

I use Pixelmator Pro a lot these days after ditching Adobe.
Its a great fast app and is a dream to use, and as others on here, hope Apple dont wreck it.

As an aside do people remember Canva buying Affinity recently..... I have more hopes for Pixelmator than Affinity now.

Let’s hope they don’t fully turn their products (at least those that are one time purchase) into more subscriptions.

Integrating their tools into macOS iOS and iPadOS to make them the default photo editing and management would be great.
