Whats also interesting today is the news that finally iOS 11 is to receive a jailbreak. Very convenient distraction if you ask me. I wouldn’t be surprised if Apple are pushing this out themselves. I’m betting there’s a tweak to Dethrottle ;)

I love Apple products but with this people will understand how a company that is 100% in control of hardware and software can do what they want when they want with your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

If companies don't let you check exactly what information your device is sending then it will be open for anything. It would be so easy to view all connections your device is doing to the internet or also block all connections except for the apps you want.

Right now it is only possible to view data usage from cell phone, but with wifi there is no way to check any data usage. Also in cell data usage I see general, dns services and more things that are not clearly specified.

I have detected with my iPad that suddenly it is slow and when I disable wifi it works like normal, it is like it is recording all the time what I am doing and sending that information.

Don't trust too much what you do on your Apple device or any other one.

As someone who can and does change batteries for people, Apple is spreading a pile of crap. New batteries rarely speed these phones back up. They are programmed against the user and for the company.

no your mis-understanding what I am saying. I'm not talking about overclocking here. You don't overclock phones...

How do you know which manufacturers overclock their phone processors? (Occasionally or otherwise.)

Wasn't Samsung accused of gaming some benchmark by tweaking processor performance when that benchmark was recognized?

Maybe that's one factor in how Apple produces performance (and single core geekbench numbers) so much higher than the competition. Except Apple more fairly boosts every app, not just benchmarks, but only with fresh new batteries.

I don't see this thread being evidence of that. Where are the posts complaining that a pop-up message warning the user would be an equally distasteful option?

The Wounded By Apple League would be whining in full force should Apple create the script.

I think you’ll find that as this is all across mainstream news people will be very annoyed actually and some may take action in court.
If people changed an iPhone 6 or 6S that cost a lot of money, for another new iPhone costing a lot of money because Apple made their old device run slow, and they didn’t tell anyone, then funnily enough people might be annoyed with that!

I assume you have Apple stock?

This has nothing to do with my investments.

People can take Apple to court but they will lose.

This is already yesterday's news for most normal people.

The manufacturer showed you specs when your purchased it. You as a consumer are to expect that performance.

Show me anywhere where Apple specifies a particular processor clock frequency number in their published product documentation. MacRumors people seem to have just made up a number and assumed that was something legally specified. If you expect some made-up number, caveat emptor.

So a double whammy -

Degraded battery
Slower phone

Apple is also great at inspiring copycats. If Google starts adding this "feature" by Android 9 just like how they removed headphone jack, I'm going to use LG G5 and V20 for life. I want to be like that UK guy who still uses a Nokia 3310 after 17 years.

This is NOT good news for even Android users because Apple has a way of influencing their competition.

Would they? Do you think that the people who are complaining are doing so because they simply want to complain? Are there any legitimate reasons to criticize Apple over this?

Based on decades of observing human behavior in Internet forums...yes, they would complain simply to complain. They actually aren't interested in Apple fixing their mistake - just stirring the pot.

FWIW, I do think Apple made the wrong choice in throttling the phone if it's true. They should have created a script that pops up informing the user their battery is dying and needs to be replaced and to prevent hardware damage their phone's performance will be limited until the battery has been replaced. If the user chooses to ignore it or doesn't like it - tough luck.

Man people are really overreacting to this. Batteries wear down over time, whether though heavy use or not. It depends on temperatures, charging habits, etc. An older phone will never be as fast as the current model. Slowing down performance to squeeze out extra time isn't a bad thing imo. I use low power mode to get extra hours when I'm not doing anything intensive and it's a great feature. The only iPhone that was completely ruined by an OS update was the iPhone 3G on 4.0-4.2.1. That phone should've stayed on 3.1.3. My iPhone 7 Plus is running perfectly on the latest firmware. The 8/X are faster but they have a more powerful CPU. I have a 3 yr old iPhone 6 on 10.3.3 whose battery is seriously depleted and there is a warning in Settings/Battery that says "Your iPhone battery may need to be serviced." It's capacity is 800 mAh down from 1800 mAh. The phone runs fine and all it needs is a new battery. I choose not to update it to iOS 11 even before the battery trouble because it has no 3D Touch nor support for ARKit and I want to keep it on 10.3.3 for 32-bit apps.

Basically get a battery info app, check how much capacity is left, replace your batteries and calm down. It's not expensive and almost nothing if you do it yourself. What was going on with the original Xbox 360s and the RROD was something actually worth complaining and suing over. You had consoles dying after after a couple of years from insufficient cooling. This is just not the case here.

I guess you haven't been following this thread very carefully. I've posted repeatedly that there are people who won't care about it and that they should be left alone and NOT called trolls or Apple apologists.
There are 1142 posts as of now, I may have missed one or two. But I appreciate a civil discourse with those who have differing views.

The cross-banter is actually the main reason I follow Macrumors for Apple products and issues. It provides one with a grasp of overall customer satisfaction (or the converse) on Apple computers and devices. Civility is definitely preferred. If only positive or negative opinions proliferated, the forum would be much less useful or interesting. If a particular topic generates large traffic - this one, removal of the sound jack on iPhones, ports on MacBooks and MacBook Pros all generated huge traffic - it is likely a topic of important concern to both customers and hopefully Apple.

You sir, have a good point. But it's tough to gauge the banter on where things actually stand with customers and how the company perception and/or sales might be affected.

Make it optional. B.S. that they aren’t excited it fuels sales. That’s absolutely a factor with their software changes.

Make it optional and then when the phone shutdown, you'll want a new battery or phone for free? When the reality is the phone works? nah...

This is already yesterday's news for most normal people.

Yes it does, people posting on here own Apple shares, I’ve them talk about them in threads about its earnings, it is in their own personal interests to apologise for Apple and bury this bad news and go against anyone complaining...

You didn’t answer the question, do you own Apple shares? Because the way you are apologising you must do.

It is hardly yesterday’s news mate when it’s ALL across main stream news today, it’s up there with the people being run over in Melbourne!
An awful lot of Apple customers will be reading about this excuse to make money by Apple.

Hmm if you don’t own Apple shares or work for Apple I’ll eat my hat, your post history is constantly highlighting and defending Apple.
