No Netflix for me too. Not a big fan of my Apple TV2. I love BOTH of my original Apple TV's. This new little one has been buggy since day one.

*** When the audio of Netflix occasionally is off, all I do is rewind for a few seconds and it always syncs up right away***

I am loving The Larry Sanders shows. Bought this just for them. Hilarious.

What about home sharing??? Mine hasn't worked right since the last update last week...... Still not working right....

ATV and home theater receiver

Ever since the last update the only problem I have is with the audio. I have know idea if anyone else is experiencing this or not, but I can not get this thing to output anything to my subwoofer. No movies or music. At first I thought I blew my amp, then sub the something was wrong with the receiver nada. After pulling my hair out and glueing it back I found out it was the ATV2. ATV 1, PS3, 360, and even my directv box all work fine. This is annoying when you are use to watching movies or listening to music with a little bit of bass. This update didn't fix it either. Changed all my settings on my equipment and then back to what I had them uh.

:) Apple's little "pet project" with the Apple TV has been getting a lot of loving lately, maybe it's a sign that the :apple: TV is going mainstream?

Hope their UI gets a bit easier to navigate as well as customize but that would be a stretch for apple.

Update did not fix DD 5.1 issue

In case anyone was wondering, the latest update to the ATV2 software has not fixed the issue where if you have ripped a DVD or created a home movie with the audio encoded solely in Dolby Digital 5.1 then those movies will not play with audio and if you try and resume that movie it freezes up.

I have ended up downgrading my two ATV's2 to ios 4.1.1 (4.2.1) and am now very concerned that I will not be able to upgrade my ATV2 again if I want to play any of my home made/ripped movies through the ATV2 as I use to.

APPLE - you have taken a seriously cool piece of kit and trashed it - I will now look at getting a ROKU or Boxee Box in order to stream my ripped movies.

Come on Apple do the right thing and look after your customers the way you use to and provide a serious update that fixes a major issue.

I also note that on Apple's website it is not possible to send an e-mail to Apple Support about this issue as the section of the Apple support website dedicated to the Apple TV does not allow e-mail correspondence - terrible customer service.

- Wake from sleep: Addresses an issue where Apple TV may not wake up from sleep.

... which doesn't affect me at all. But how about the issue where the AppleTV wakes itself from standby and then the power light stays on permanently?!?!

Well documented on tonnes of forums ...

Apple's product forums are for customer self help, they are not meant to be used to report problems to Apple or to seek help from Apple.

However, here is Apple's official site for feedback on the Apple TV:

http://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html

The above link allows you to send feedback directly to the Apple TV team, you can report bugs, give suggestions, or just complain about product performance.

I had the same problem notice that removing the HDMI and plugin it back fixed the problem. Only happen some times. :(

Updated will have to wait and see if it happens any more.

Only issue with me is there is no way to remove the dumb new menu options.

For the first time EVER, I watched an entire movie without flickering and my sound worked through the entire movie without resetting.

Usually the sound stops at least four or five times per movie where the movie keeps going... I have to stop it rewind it a bit and after a few tries the sound works... I usually get a lot of flickering too. Both have apparently been finally fixed.

I don't know what the hell took them so long, but I finally feel like my AppleTV works!!!

Anyone else as happy as I am?

Ok I'll say it. I know this is picky, but why can't they synchronize software build numbers to the rest of the iOS world?

They sort of are, they just refer to the Apple TV software version not the iOS version on the Apple TV 2 releases...

If you look at the about menu and press the middle remote button it tells you the iOS build number, which is the same as other iOS devices.

This is the most stable my Apple TV 2 has been. The interface seems a little bit laggy (maybe due to refreshing to the network), but overall everything seems to work solid. Best update yet.

I have the exact same issue, as well as others, in this thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=12231653#post12231653

Guess I have to downgrade the AppleTV or reencode the movies (luckily I don't have more than 10 or so).

iOS really struggles with netflix as it is bad on my iPhone too. Even my wife thinks it sucks and she never really complains or notices about technology. It's to the point of not wanting to use it.

Both the ATV1 & 2 need audio track 1 to be stereo AAC and track 2 (optional) can be DD5.1

Try encoding with Handbrake, its ATV presets do this properly.

Try encoding your files properly: http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#qa/qa1604/_index.html

Track Layout

Apple TV media files containing Dolby Digital Professional AC-3 must conform to a specific track layout. Two Sound Tracks are used and both must be provided:

AAC Encoded Stereo - This is the standard Stereo audio track.

AC-3 Encoded Surround - This is the Dolby Digital Professional AC-3 Surround audio track.

The AAC Stereo audio track must appear first in the media file and must be enabled by default. The Dolby Digital Professional AC-3 Surround track must appear after the AAC Stereo track and must be disabled by default.

I have been experiencing issues with streaming video playlists to my atv2, with he video always stopping after the show finishes and not progressing to the next show on the playlist. I hope this is addressed.
