The niche that Jonathan Levine, the company's founder and CEO, saw was that Beats had blown open a massive market, but left a huge hole between premium headphones that prioritized style and those that focused on audio quality. Master & Dynamic seeks to wed design and quality in a way that attracts both audiophiles and users who wear their headphones as an accessory

lol, that's harsh. but i agree
although to me Beats are immensely hideous, so they are neither stylish nor good audio quality.

Let’s see how long they’te up there. ;)

Well why would Apple take them down unless they weren't selling? If they are selling I doubt Apple will feel threatened for the Beats brand since they are making money anyway.

----------

I shop with my eyes first these days. Those cans have piqued my interest.

EDIT: Sorry, just saw the price, I’ll be buying Sennheiser Momentum instead.

I don't care much for Sennheiser Momentum. Seems too flimsy. I much prefer the better built Bowers & Wilkins P7.

How's the ear cup situation? I heard they're a bit small and I cansider myself to have medium sized ears.

I consider my ears to be medium-large and compared to my AKG's, they felt a little tight at first, but now they feel great. That said, you should try them out first or buy from a store with a good refund policy like the Apple Store.

The reason Apple sell other headphones in the stores and online is because Beats headphones are terrible, not bad but terrible sound quality.

Lately Apple is the picture of uncertainty, inconsistency, and never fails to demonstrate their commitment to hypocrisy as always. More and more they're acting like mainstream politicians. :)

Good, not everyone listens to rap. I've noticed that Beats headphones mess with the equalization and boost the bass (which is different from having a good frequency response range), so many things like classical music sound bad on them. They also cost a ridiculous amount of money.

apple should continue to keep bose products out of apple stores, online and brick and mortar stores.

the reason??
bose made a deal with the NFL so now when players get to the stadiums they can wear only bose headphones.

Most of the planet does not watch NLF.

What a joke!
"REAL AUDIO" is analog not digital. LOL!!
99.99% of the people that would buy those sweat shop made cans don't listen to 24 track analog recordings off of magnetic tape.

That's good to hear. I couldn't find a store that had a floor model, but I bought them from the online store VMInnovations which has a 60 day return policy.

Personally, I prefer Grado Labs SR80. Made in the USA and a better price too.

Grado headphones sound great, but the ear pads on the cheaper models (I have the SR125's) are garbage. They dry out and begin to crumble into dust after about a year. (This problem has been well-documented on hi-fi and headphone forums.)

I contacted Grado about this, and received a very bizarre reply: "You wouldn't put old gasoline into your car and still expect it to run, would you? Think of the ear pads as gasoline — they need to be replenished every few months."

Rather than buying their overpriced "replacement" pads, I ended up just making my own from some porous foam rubber I had lying around.

To be honest I see no reason that the Apple Store should not sell both Windows and Office. Many Mac users live in the real world and use both.

Why is it so important for the Apple stores to sell it, when you can pick it up elsewhere?

Those things look so ugly compared to Beats headphones. No competition.

Personally, I think they look like they have a bit of character or personality to them, whereas the Beats headphones look about as sterile as an Apple product can be.

1st world stuff. In Brazil, try walking with these phones for a week without being mugged.

Can I make the phones unusable through iCloud?

Don't laugh, I grew up with the $23.95 pair of headphones in that catalogue (OEM Koss). They were great until the standard 1/4" connector started cutting out. On the receivers, I still miss analogue knobs.
They still exist. If you look hard.

Sure... that is the reason most studios record in high bitrate DIGITAL. Once you have converted analog to digital you stop degradation of sound. In analog though each step in the mixing process will add noise, distortion, etc.

Sorry but Analog Audio is a bit like Film Photography : Dying out and fast on its way to extinction.

That really would be a shift because you can only buy the Mac OS from Apple online.

I have a pair of Momentums and they're amazing. The best I've heard in that price range.... and bests even much pricier headphones I've heard. Well worth $350.

Momentums come in two ranges. I assume that’s the upper range?

----------

The real world? The Windows PC beside me has remained turned off for months. I don't need no stinking Windows to do "real" work.

Even Apple make products that allow people to use Windows. They recognise the need, why don’t you?

----------

How's the ear cup situation? I heard they're a bit small and I cansider myself to have medium sized ears.

They do an on ear variant and a full size variant if you didn’t know?

To my eyes, they’re too ugly. The way I see things is that you’ll never get a perfect product. What I like to do when shopping, (ideally), is;
1. Gather a list of items that please me aesthetically.
2. Whittle the list down to those items where certain specs I am after are present. (This means out and out specs, durability and upgradability).
3. Sort by price.

…..or John Lewis where you get good offers on price, warranties and still good service. I buy most of my Apple gear from JLP.
Free delivery, included extended warranty with the option to upgrade, email offers, nice, (if blindingly expensive), restaurant, etc. etc.

Music quality is an absolute.
Music appreciation/perception is not.

Distortion is a negative, more bass, (without distortion), is not.

I do know that, but some people with large ears say that their ears don't completely inside the ear cups of the over ear version. It's about the only complaint on Amazon.

Oh right. I’ll have to go have a look at those too then. I think my ears are ‘average’ so I should be fine.

Makes sense. These are products for two different target markets. Beats are for people who have no clue about audio quality and more interested in a fashion statement because they saw a celebrity on TV wearing them. Masters & Dynamics, B&O, Bowers & Wilkins, etc are for people who know what good audio quality is.

Completely disagree. The way I see it, Masters & Dynamics, B&O, Bowers & Wilkins, etc are in cases purchased by people who have less of a clue about audio than those who purchase beats, but in addition. Have no clue about fashion, a lot times are haters, and easily influenced by others who fit the description of what I previously said.

The hate as with Mac vs pc usually comes from one direction on a larger scale.

end of the day be happy with what YOU like. I've had a Mac over a decade because it's what I like. Had beats about a year because it's what I like.
