My god you people, the comprehension level... where to begin...

I agree with everything you say, and none of it matters... because again, you missed my whole point.

First, my initial point was, this is a non story by a hack writer here on Macrumors.

.....

Period. That's all my argument was. How can anyone not get that?

....

And as for you...
.....

my whole point is... IT IS HAPPENING. And again, the only reason I'm having to bark, is because some of you are in such denial. You once again just can't comprehend why anyone would not just shoot digital... well let me put it this way, to throw it back at you.... any monkey and his uncle can make a good picture with digital (look at all the now infamous iPhone photographers/photo-journalists getting praise for their "work") but it takes a true artist to shoot with film and make magic happen... ;)

I'll try to respond without being quite as aggressive. First of all, the two people to whom you are replying never commented on your first point, only on the second. Further, the post to which you responded:

Sure... that is the reason most studios record in high bitrate DIGITAL. Once you have converted analog to digital you stop degradation of sound. In analog though each step in the mixing process will add noise, distortion, etc.

Sorry but Analog Audio is a bit like Film Photography : Dying out and fast on its way to extinction.

was in turn responding to someone who said that "real audio" meant listening to 24-track reel-to-reel tapes, and nothing digital. Tmoerel's point was simply that that was a suspect comment, given that anyone who seeks fidelity will record digitally - a statement you would seem to agree with.

I don't see what analogue synthesisers have to do with this - apart from the use of the word analogue, they have no bearing on this discussion.

There was no need to jump on tmoerel in the first place and describe him as "clueless", and there's no need to continue to get so hot under the collar. If you agree that digital recording is generally preferable, then that's great.

And to be honest, while Foo Fighters may be recording using analogue techniques I don't really see that this constitutes a resurgence in analogue audio - given that Quantegy is the only manufacturer of reel to reel tape any more (they do one manufacturing run a year, and a reel will set you back over $500), and given that Tascam ceased manufacture of its last recorder over 20 years ago, I think it's a bit of a push to say analogue recording is making a comeback. I just don't see where all the aggression comes from - don't forget that you're the one who began by jumping down someone else's throat and calling their post "full of cluelessness", for frankly, no good reason.

And anyway, this is meant to be about headphones, and what Apple stock in their online store; we got onto this because of a throw-away line which really should have been left. As I will now.

To my eyes, they’re too ugly. The way I see things is that you’ll never get a perfect product. What I like to do when shopping, (ideally), is;
1. Gather a list of items that please me aesthetically.
2. Whittle the list down to those items where certain specs I am after are present. (This means out and out specs, durability and upgradability).
3. Sort by price.
Interesting, I use a similar methodology, but different order:
1. Specs/features that matter.
2. Price range.
3. Aesthetics.

It all ends up digital anyway

I don't know of any recording engineer of classical, or indeed any non-studio or live music, who would champion analogue recording over digital.

There are a LOT of bad digital recordings out there that can color people's judgement. A lot of times reissues include a "remix" that certainly changes the sound of the recording. This has nothing to do with the analogue versus digital debate, but may color one's judgement when a digital recording doesn't sound right, influencing a general preference for analogue. A lot of the people who post analogue recordings on digital do so despite the fact that it ends up digital anyway . . . and low grade digital at that. Keep bit rate as high as you can go . . . don't worry about going above 44k unless you are a dog.

If you took a high-end digital and a high-end analogue setup (including reels of the master tapes), and made a digital copy of the analogue, 99 out of 100 couldn't tell the difference through good headphones, and the one who could probably wouldn't find the difference unbearable, unless he were in an asylum with an EXTREME case of OCD.

Another great golden ear thread full of passive-aggresive angst:eek:
For hipsters with a Guy Fawkes look, analog/film is the new/old cool.

My god, what is wrong with you people!? Did any of you even bother to use the slightest bit of critical thinking skills, let alone read the entire article?

I'm sorry but, any time I see an article written by Juli Clover I know it's going to be a complete NON-STORY!

She wrote as if Apple only sells Beats and now they graciously added a competitor, and all of you I've quoted are acting like it's the greatest thing since sliced bread... but if you read down a little farther you see Miss Clover invalidating her own story with the following "... the company continues to sell a range of other headphones from companies like Bowers & Wilkins, Alpine, Parrot, SMS Audio, Marshall, Denon, Sennheiser, and more."

So the gist of the "story" is, Apple sells (and have always sold) a bunch of headphones, including their recently acquired Beats, and now they've added one more brand in their already healthy line up of competing brands... Wow, stop the presses!

lol, I get it. I just like to see the reaction of folks like you who feel the need to educate people on the internets. If Macrumors runs the "story" then it is open for comments. That's all I did was comment... and then wait to be "schooled" on why it's not an article, my comment is dumb, it doesn't make sense, etc. etc. etc. :p

you missed my whole point.

Teeny word of advice: Shorten your posts and avoid starting them with broad insults. Take this opening line of yours:

Wow! So much cluelessness in this post I don't even know where to begin...

Or this opening line:

My god you people, the comprehension level... where to begin...

I get it. You were probably trying to come across as jokingly sarcastic, but I found it boorishly off-putting. It stopped me giving your post the attention you clearly believe it deserves.

This open competition is getting out of hands!

This is getting so stupid....don't you have choice of what you sell?!? You don't see Samsung or Windows stores selling Apple products?

Call me in when they start selling Ath-50s or V-Moda XS to compete with beats solo 2, then it'll get interesting. Though, I do applaud them for improving the sound and durability on the solos and EarPods, now if only they'd work their way through the line up. Maybe even offer a truly neutral headphone.

Digital is the future (and the current) but analog is still a viable alternative, so it's still in use. Pretty much: Digital is more likely to store easily, but analogue offers a more... Interesting, colored experienced while digital can be sterile.
