Add me as another Apple TV user who just got a Fire Stick. Tired of waiting for Apple to add Amazon Prime Video, Spotify and others. Really sad how they have let Apple TV get so dormant.

I love all of the "Apple needs to add..." comments. Do you really think that Amazon is going to let Apple put Prime Video on the ATV?

Amazon fire stick delivers good home theater sound. I streamed Avengers out of the box and my subwoofer got a workout. Video was hi-def and with no lag or issues. Amazon has a lot of HBO content as well. No need to have a ripoff cable subscription either.

"I cracked it". Yeah, right...

This mess of more and more individual channel icons can't be the final state of this thing. It seems odd that I have to know what channel produces a given show. There's got to be a better UI and discovery mechanism than this.

I love how people still think Amazon does not want to be on Apple TV or Apple does not Amazon Prime on Apple and the best part about this claims they got no proof or a website stating why not. It is like the Apple vs. Amazon fan boy troll they only use 15% of their brain.

You're correct. There is no proof. But why would Amazon, who just released a major direct competitor to ATV, and is marketing directly to owners or potential owners of ATV take away one of the reasons to buy that competitor instead of the ATV?

Personally, I think that Apple would love to be able to offer Amazon Prime on the ATV, but I don't see Amazon letting it happen unless Apple releases a new ATV that consumes the market.

Because Amazon wants to sell $99/year Amazon Prime memberships, and get you to rent other stuff from them too. That is where they are making their money, not on the hardware sale.

As for Apple not wanting Amazon Prime on the AppleTV I don't buy that either. Apple is happy to let HBO, Netflix, and all the other channels have apps on the Apple TV, those are just as much competition to iTunes Rentals/purchases as Amazon Prime.

Don't have to have the tv on. It can use Spotify connect so your iPhone can act as a remote.
That is good to know. That at least puts it on par with Airplay...for this one app. I use Rdio, which has something similar, but I don't believe it work with Roku..although I have never tried it.

But still all of the apps available in Australia stink... AirPlay is really it's only use if you don't use the itunes store

We're getting there.......

Keep it up Apple and soon I can cut too!

Come on, you can cut now, I cut in 2009.

No, they are not. That's an Apples to Oranges comparison. Netflix etc is a streaming app, while Amazon Prime and iTunes go head to head as rental/purchase apps.

Why does Roku have it?

There's absolutely no reason why Amazon wouldn't let Apple use Amazon Instant Video, it's just another avenue for amazon to get their products out to consumers. On the other hand, Apple does have a reason not to allow it, and that's because it's a direct competitor to iTunes. So yeah, if ATV doesn't get it, it's because Apple doesn't want you to have it.

Amazon Prime is on other on devices before they came out their own device which also has Netflix not only that you can watch Amazon Prime on your iPhone and through Airplay. I really can not see why Apple would block Amazon to be on Apple TV or Amazon not wanting on Apple TV it would make Amazon more profitable. If Apple was smart they would have their own streaming service like Amazon not just rent or buy movies like VUDU.

When cable TV first evolved in the 1970s, the promise was that it would be commercial-free because you were paying a monthly subscription fee. We all know how well that went.

Cable TV also just used to carry the OTA channels to locations were OTA signal was spotty and/or non-existent.

Good list... here's more wishes (but know they won't)

• XBMC (Kodi)
• Plex
• Amazon
• Vudu

Or at LEAST a way to allow users to add them on their own.

I recommend a fire tv stick

Good job I sold my ATVs and swapped them for Amazon Fire TVs a few weeks ago.

This dripping of American channels is useless to us in the UK.

Never looked back.

The problem is Fire TV is it won't run videos I buy off iTunes, which run on my iPad and iPhone too

i bet i would know which one of these four is most popular...

UFC...

Regional restrictions... pfft :p That doesn't make me cry..... since i know how to get round that with ease.

But PayTV of course it would HAVE to be wouldn't it.....

If there a quite a few Pay TV services that do this anyway, why cripple the rest of users ?

And this is why I will never use anything other than an Apple TV. My investment in iTunes TV shows and movies is too much to move to something else. I have no plans to ever stop buying from iTunes.

until i can buy individual subscriptions for the channels i want all these services are near worthless... you still need cable/satellite to get them.

Agreed! The first step and hoping it comes true, is when HBO does it's subscription service. Once it comes along, and my contract is up, I will be cutting cable out. Done with it.

HBOGO
Netflix
Hulu

Will save me over a hundred bucks a month!

They allow Amazon Prime on the iPhone/iPad, along with VUDU, Flixster, etc. Those are direct competitors for iTunes as far as buying/renting movies. Why allow them on the iPhone/iPad and not the AppleTV if it was about keeping competition out?

As far as not a fair comparison, I don't totally buy that either. If I want to watch a movie or TV show am I going to pay to rent it on iTunes when I can watch it for free on HBO Go, or Netflix, etc?

I would buy an Fire Stick if I could get iTunes on it so I could watch all my purchases. Till then it's worthless to me.

Y, I didn't mind being locked into the Apple ecosystem when it was a functional system, but now, it's less "walled garden" and more "locked room." Once you decide to get out, though, you'll find there are ways. iTunes is still good for music, but for movies/TV, it might as well be RealPlayer 2015 now.

Amazon's business IS Prime; the Fire TV is just another channel to sell it in. I wholeheartedly think Amazon would welcome the chance to sell its wares via an AppleTV app -- it already has such apps for iPhone and iPad, Roku, Android tablets, PlayStation, XBox and well, every other system I can name at the moment. So why NOT Apple TV? Because they CAN'T make apps for Apple TV.

Apple has done a huge disservice to its developer base (which has been its main competitive advantage over other platforms) by locking them out of the living room altogether. By the time they DO get their act together, let's hope anyone still cares.

How are all of these devices Roku, ATV, ChromeCast, FireTV, etc... still around? Don't most TV now come with built in SmartTV at fraction of the cost they use to be a few years ago. I have a Samsung LED SmartTV that I purchased a few year ago has built-in wifi, and just about all the same channels as the competitors devices. Now that same TV that I spent $700+ is now less than $300.

I got a FireTV Stick for $19 during the Prime member pre-order deal... but I have zero clue what to do with, why because all my devices (Macbook Pro, Mac Mini, iPad, iPhone, Windows Computers, XBoxOne, Smart TVs) do the exact same thing as this Stick. Brings me back to Apple TV, I want one but its not doing anything unique or am I overlooking something?
