Is it so strange for us consumers to want customizable television packages where you can bundle your own channel choices? Half the time it seems like AppleTV is headed that way (Thank you HBO now, I don't have this but it's ideal for fans of HBO). The other half of the time we just get another route for our cable subscription to come into our homes. If I was subscribed to a cable package, why even put it on the apple tv? For a "free" box in another room that covers a few channels of my subscription?

Handy for the Tour de France packages that they sell independent of cable subscriptions. No more Airplaying from my iPad.

are you afraid that NBC will know where you are streaming from even though they have your account info?

Lol, no I work in the Bahamas and those pesky "only in USA" regional IP address blockers keep me from streaming the games live. I have a comcast login. I use a VPN to watch on my Mac instead and then AirPlay to my tv, which glitches sometimes.

wow, this is the only channel i honestly cared about since I am big F1 fun and finally is available on ATV!.
I am really hoping that the app will allow to view the replays as many qualifications/races are in the middle of the night my local time so waking up in the middle of the night is not the most convenient for me.

While video clips and other content will be available to all users, watching live content will require a cable subscription and authentication to log in.

No thanks. Cable cutter here, not interested.

Does HBO Now even work live? Meaning does Game of Thrones for example come on at 9PM EST? Or is delayed?

It's still easier for me to just have HBO and DVR it than stream it and watch it late.

My tv in the bedroom is on the border of WIFI signal and I would have to rework my whole network to extend up there.

For everyone who claims cord cutting is all the rage, there are still millions of us out there who find cable so easy. Well I say cable, Directv in my case.

What is the DVR solution? A lot of times I record games and watch them through commercials. I don't want to stream and watch live.

GOT can be watch at around 6pm PST since that is when it is shown on the EST.

... Live Extra streams all live sports content televised by NBC, NBCSN ...

One more nail in the coffin of DirecTV as far as I'm concerned. If I can stream live and pre-recorded Formula One races on NBCSN, there will be one less reason to subscribe to DirecTV.

And no, I don't particularly care if the monthly total fees for individual streaming services costs more or less than my current DirecTV bill (within reason). I'm just sick and tired of the horrendously bad on-screen interface, the ridiculous 3- and 4-digit channel numbers, the need to record local copies of TV shows, movies, and sporting events, and all of that archaic 20th century baggage.

We still have a long way to go. But I will try to support Streaming options when I can like HBO Now. Regarding the DVR. I feel that On Demand could/should replace the need for a DVR. I am using my DVR to record most things I watch so I can skip commercials. But if I had an On Demand option without commercials I would do that instead of the DVR. Most shows that I watch (except for CBS) can be watched on Hulu with commercials (but less of them) and if I chose that I would not need a DVR for those. CBS is pretty much the same as Hulu but just CBS and the commercials are about 50% of live. But still no App for the ATV (only Hulu). I really hope Apples Rumor Streaming Service has a option for no commercials even at a higher cost. I have a lot of room with spending $60+ per month on DVR Hardware / Service and addition STB's.

This NBC Sports 'channel' is progress, but like roughly half of the 'channels' on Apple T.V., it requires a cable subscription. It would be great to be able to watch Baseball games without having to subscribe to cable or the $100/year MLB.T.V. service.

Tell me about it...iTunes does the same thing to me. I want to get a movie and they make me either rent it or buy it! Why can't they just GIVE it to me.

So I have to buy a cable subscription to watch a channel on Apple TV that I can already watch on my existing cable? What's the point of this?

With more and more channels available, you can use this on a secondary TV and avoid the extra cost for another set top box from your cable company.

Just a thought.

How about fixing Authentication for HBO Go so Charter Communication customers can finally access it (That's what Charter tells customers blame Apple).

I think it is time to Amazon Prime there is a lot more Sports and barely any Movie/TV Show streaming and their many free ones other than crackle.

Charter is lying to you!

NO. You just need to Authenticate the ATV to access your already purchased cable subscription. No extra charge. Just more options. You can not even use it if you do not have a cable subscription.

Tour De ???

Wonder if we will now be able to watch the NBCSN coverage of the Tour De France on the Apple TV now. That will be NICE.

Hopefully the next Apple TV update will add the following setting:

"Automatically hide apps that require a cable tv subscription"

You're missing the point. He's talking about a scenario in which he doesn't have a cable subscription.

Awesome news! Now, if they can only add FoxSoccer2Go for Champion's League soccer...

And if they also add HGTV, a DirectTV-less NFL Sunday Ticket option, Amazon Prime Video, and iPad-equivalent apps from CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox (all without the requirement to log in with a cable subscription), there will finally be no more need to have cable. This is my personal cord-cutters dream package. Many of these are already on the iPad, so I don't know what the holdup is. I know that some of these are tied up with tight business agreements, Comcast, etc., but one can hope! I also hope that HBO Now is the start of the truly independent TV options.

I'm wondering if maybe they are getting ready for their skinny bundle and then maybe this will be a full version of the channel and included in one of the packages.
