Nope. Nope. Nope. See above.

That's a prepaid iPhone. Nor Is that available for every carrier, so why would that apply to any one specific person? Furthermore, you compared an unsubsidized iPod touch to an iPhone SE. Retail the iPhone SE is still 399 depending where you purchased it and how it's financed. But even if one purchases the iPhone SE from Apple, it's still $399. Where is the iPod touch, still significantly lower. That link you provided is discounted to one third-party retailer, it's not widespread discounted over multiple retailers, nor does everybody have access to this pending the carrier.

The iPod died when they removed the click-wheel and expanded the size and price. The "touch" is just a crippled iPhone. R.I.P. iPod...the original was truly revolutionary. This one is now just "the thing that wouldn't die".

I found it odd when they updated the iPads in March, and the iPad mini was left with a single storage tier of 128GB at $399, same as the iPod touch.

Considering the other iPods are gone, it would be cool if the touch was renamed to just 'iPod' or pulled into the iPad lineup with a name like 'iPad nano' (with a more significant update of sorts). Likely not relevant enough for either to happen though.

Also, branding it iPad when it doesn't run iPad apps, iPad specific iOS features and has a screen 1.5" smaller than the iPhone 7 Plus would seem odd.

iPads and iPhones running iOS isn't quite the same as a 10" netbook and a 30" PC both running Windows.

Nope. This is a prepaid phone and not a subsidized contract phone. The Verizon ones are unlocked. This was well documented and discussed when Best Buy had them on sale a week or two ago for $150 or $159.

You can nope all you want. But be a man and admit your error.

Verizon sold a bunch of unlocked phones by mistake. Since a week ago, all of these phones sold have been locked to Verizon pre-paid.

These things, like the iPad Mini, are on the A8 chip!!

We'll see how they run when iOS 11 is released.

Don't be silly. Those are called subsided phones.

It's locked to Verizon pre-paid.
No, it's not in the case of the VZW prepaid models at Best Buy. Stick any sim OTHER THAN Verizon in it *first* and it's unlocked. Stick a VZW sim in it first and it will be locked.

lol, you act like Best Buy is some obscure small-channel retailer no one else has access to. I also never said it wasn't a prepaid phone. Further, maybe I should've pointed you to the page that has other carrier options for the same price (or less)? ( http://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchp...p=devicemanufacturer_facet=Device Brand~Apple )

Please don't spread stale or mis-information. Unless you know something the Slickdeals community doesn't, these phones cannot be used outside of Verizon pre-paid.

Wrong. It's a prepaid iPhone locked to Verizon. And, I repeat, it's a prepaid phone. I never said Best Buy was a small retailer, nor am I questioning the activation. But your assumingly making generalizations and acting as if this is widespread, and it still priced at $399 elsewhere. So that doesn't apply to every specific person, which you seem to ignore that fact. You're comparing an unsubsidized iPod touch to a subsidize iPhone from your previous post. L. No matter anyway how you look at it it's a discounted prepaid subsidized iPhone to Verizon. You're making this more difficult than it needs to be.

I'm relaying what worked for a personal friend. I make no claims to what anyone on Slickdeals says.

Regardless, my initial point was the SE is a much more viable option than the iPod Touch due to the better specs. You can use an SE all you want as an iPod Touch type device without regard to what network it may or may not be locked to.

If they aren't lowering the prices at all, MacBooks are selling well.
not really, Best buy has sales all the time. You could find MBA for $699 from best buy.

It is market outside US where they are very expensive. in US you always have sales on iPhone (Att, verizon and such), iPad (best buy, Target and wal mart and such) and MacBooks (Best buy, Frys and such).

It is just that all of the BTO you have to pay arms and legs (like I paid for 2017 MBA with 512GB SSD).

Then you should have acknowledged earlier you were working with hearsay information.

No one is arguing the iPhone SE has better features than iPod Touch. It's a $399 device vs. $199.

Dang, just bought one the other week for my son's birthday (tomorrow). a 16gb one.

well, he should be fine anyway just stinks.

how are the sales on these? can't see how people still buy them? i may be in the minority.

They must still sell because Apple keep making them. There are lots of applications where you want a handheld iOS device but don't need mobile voice/data. At $199, far cheaper than an iPhone, after all?

I'm surprised they didn't do a small processor upgrade. How much ram does it have - 1?

In Denmark the network 3 currently sells the 32gb iPhone SE for about 1799 incl 6 months service. That's the same price for the touch in Denmark.

You mentioned Best Buy being "one third-party retailer" and not widespread, as if only 1 in 5 people have access to Best Buy or something. The heart of all of my posts has and continues to be that you get a much better piece of electronics that does everything an iPod Touch does for the same price and the same amount of storage if you buy a prepaid (of ANY carrier) iPhone SE from Best Buy for $199.99 or less. You and 'ol JPack are the only ones making anything about what I was getting at more difficult than it needs to be. More powerful and feature-packed item for the same price point. You don't have to activate a prepaid iPhone on any network to get the same use out of it as a lesser-spec'ed iPod Touch.

They're cheaper than the phone version of the same size screen, thinner and don't have monthly fees.

I've been tempted to get my mother one just to use as a camera. It'd be better than her old one and sync right back to her iPad (plus she'll already know how to use it).

Nothing I said was, by definition, hearsay. Witnessed with my own eyes. You can obtain an iPhone SE and have it do the exact same functions and with the same amount of storage for the same price as an iPod Touch. That continues to be my ONLY point. Whether it's locked or unlocked to a cell network makes no difference whatsoever to the point I was making.
