These trade in values HAVE to adjust downwards annually, otherwise the iPhone 8 would still have a trade in of several hundred dollars

Apple today updated its trade-in values for select iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch models. Trade-ins can be completed on Apple's website, or at an Apple Store.

The charts below provide an overview of Apple's current and previous trade-in values in the U.S., according to its website. Maximum values for most devices either decreased or saw no change, but the iPad Air received a slight bump.

In addition to the changed values, Apple has stopped accepting 12-inch MacBook trade-ins.

Just tested it with my old 15 pm that I had sold.

Still the same apple would offer in the uk. £480 for 256gbs… hmmm

Imagine spending almost 10k on a fully specced MacBook Pro
A 10k laptop is insane. Waste of money. 10K could get you so much more. Even if you NEED a laptop for portability you could still buy a serious desktop with better specs AND a laptop.

If you’re buying a 10K laptop you’re just begging to be ripped off.

People complaining about not getting "as much" money back for used, aging devices, because Apple is rich? Hmmm? Did you not get the value from the device that you originally paid for?

I firmly believe all manufactures should have a mandatory take-back program, for responsible recycling, and those that choose to buy products back are being generous.

Stick to Swappa, Ebay or Marketplace. 5% more effort for 50% more return.

I think the very few people spending that kind of money probably have a business case for why they need it and why they need it to be a laptop so they can take it from gig to gig. Think video editing at different locations, working in music recording, stuff like that. And as insane as $10K sounds, there are people who bill hundreds of dollars an hour and can earn that back using their Mac.

Unless you're insane, you don't just max out the RAM and SSD on a MacBook Pro just for fun. (Or, if you do you're probably rich AF and don't care.)

Verizon makes more from having you as a customer for a couple/few years than Apple does for the single sale. That is why the carriers can offer more.
Yep! And they parcel out that "discount" over a couple years so you will take a big hit if you bounce on your phone plan early. It's a racket, but it does make you feel like you're getting a "free" phone initially.

Ok - these threads make me laugh because everyone grumbles about the low trade-in values. Don't get me wrong, I also join in at times (especially cause I get no trade-in credit for expensively speccing my iPhone up to 1TB storage).

However, let's think about this for a moment...

APPLE DOESN'T WANT THESES DEVICES BACK.

They don't want them, they don't want to pay for them, they don't want to deal with them, they don't want to wipe them, clean them, refurb them, sell them, re-sell them, recycle them, junk them etc..

The only reason the trade-in programs exist is that they help sell more devices. Most folks trading in a device buy a new one, so by having a trade-in allowance, they can sell you more new stuff. Accordingly, they are not paying you what the device is 'worth'. They are paying the lowest they think you will accept and still do the deal.

Most trade-in eligible Apple stuff sells pretty easily on Marketplace, eBay, Swappa and what's left of Craigslist. If those aren't an option for you, then trade-ins are what you're left with if you want some cash towards your shiny new device.

Best Buy will trade in for a gift card and you can get the offer in store. Should probably check your device here for their top valuations, but last time Apple announced a major change Best Buy lagged a bit. Which means they may still give you a better deal if you hurry. I certainly would at least get their offer before meeting some random person from the internet.

They should've included trade-in values for the iPhone 17 Air. So that people who bought the disgraced handset could trade it in for a real iPhone. 😃😂
