I have an iMac (2020) with the AMD Radeon Pro 5700 XT and the Apple Store app shows me up to $260 trade-in.Yeesh. They're saying the most they'll give you for an iMac is way less than what they'll give you for a MacBook Air? Even though they sell for similar prices new? This feels insulting.
Just tested it with my old 15 pm that I had sold.
Apple today updated its trade-in values for select iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch models. Trade-ins can be completed on Apple's website, or at an Apple Store.

The charts below provide an overview of Apple's current and previous trade-in values in the U.S., according to its website. Maximum values for most devices either decreased or saw no change, but the iPad Air received a slight bump.
In addition to the changed values, Apple has stopped accepting 12-inch MacBook trade-ins.

A 10k laptop is insane. Waste of money. 10K could get you so much more. Even if you NEED a laptop for portability you could still buy a serious desktop with better specs AND a laptop.Imagine spending almost 10k on a fully specced MacBook Pro
People complaining about not getting "as much" money back for used, aging devices, because Apple is rich? Hmmm? Did you not get the value from the device that you originally paid for?
I firmly believe all manufactures should have a mandatory take-back program, for responsible recycling, and those that choose to buy products back are being generous.
It was $630 before iPhone 17 was released and it dropped to $520 once 17 launchedThe iPhone 15 Pro Max was $630? I remember that back in late September, it was listed at $520 on Apple's website.
Verizon makes more from having you as a customer for a couple/few years than Apple does for the single sale. That is why the carriers can offer more.Verizon gave me a $1100 trade-in credit for my old iPhone 14 Pro Max just a few weeks ago. Interesting chart, unless I’m missing something important here
I think the very few people spending that kind of money probably have a business case for why they need it and why they need it to be a laptop so they can take it from gig to gig. Think video editing at different locations, working in music recording, stuff like that. And as insane as $10K sounds, there are people who bill hundreds of dollars an hour and can earn that back using their Mac.A 10k laptop is insane. Waste of money. 10K could get you so much more. Yep! And they parcel out that "discount" over a couple years so you will take a big hit if you bounce on your phone plan early. It's a racket, but it does make you feel like you're getting a "free" phone initially.Verizon makes more from having you as a customer for a couple/few years than Apple does for the single sale. Not with Cookster at the wheel.Always taking your $$. Are we surprised?
multitrillion dollar company by the way 💔
Spot on 🎉Ok - these threads make me laugh because everyone grumbles about the low trade-in values. Don't get me wrong, I also join in at times (especially cause I get no trade-in credit for expensively speccing my iPhone up to 1TB storage).
However, let's think about this for a moment...
APPLE DOESN'T WANT THESES DEVICES BACK.
They don't want them, they don't want to pay for them, they don't want to deal with them, they don't want to wipe them, clean them, refurb them, sell them, re-sell them, recycle them, junk them etc..
The only reason the trade-in programs exist is that they help sell more devices. Most folks trading in a device buy a new one, so by having a trade-in allowance, they can sell you more new stuff. Accordingly, they are not paying you what the device is 'worth'. They are paying the lowest they think you will accept and still do the deal.
Most trade-in eligible Apple stuff sells pretty easily on Marketplace, eBay, Swappa and what's left of Craigslist. If those aren't an option for you, then trade-ins are what you're left with if you want some cash towards your shiny new device.
I saw this video last night on YouTube and found it very interesting about the different pathways between Jobs and Cook:Hey.. it's rough out there for the billionaire shareholders. Gotta throw them a bone once in a while.
Makes sense. It was about 6 months worth of phone billsVerizon makes more from having you as a customer for a couple/few years than Apple does for the single sale. That is why the carriers can offer more.
I can’t speak for the others, but eBay can be a lot more than 5%, especially if buyers are trying to scam you.Stick to Swappa, Ebay or Marketplace. 5% more effort for 50% more return.
