Apple Adopting 'Gulf of America' Naming for Apple Maps

I wonder how hard it would be for Australia to be renamed from the Commonwealth of Australia to the United States of Australia? Then the EU could have fun asking Trump to qualify when he says "the US or USA", what country is he referring to? Is he talking about the one near the Gulf of Mexico or the other one? Could be fun.

I would have gone with Gulf of North America, but Gulf of America is ok. I could see getting upset if it was renamed Gulf of the United States, but it’s not. It’s a gulf in the American continent. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I think you put more thought into that then the President of the United States did. Lets just treat it as a special needs case for the US and only change it on their map. Most Americans don't travel, so the won't even know we havent changed the maps or paid any attention.

This is nothing new, the American political class loves renaming stuff (for example, those bases named after America's Civil War generals)! I think it's silly, but I it's hard to fault Apple Maps for going along with the official names.

Naming bases after members of the defeated military that fought against the U.S. is weird.

I agree. There are better things for the administration to focus on than this (or not -- if someone does not like the current administration, maybe they'll be happy this is what's done instead of something else). Because the gulf touches multiple (North) American countries, the Gulf of America is more appropriate than the Gulf of Mexico. I don't really care either way though.
