Cool!

I loved how the crowd laughed at the Keynote when they heard "dull" - I guess it is a good thing Gateway sucks because it would be hard to find a word to put them down....

Makes sense.

It's easier to sell Macs to PC users with an Intel chip inside than it is to sell PowerPC. This would be interesting to see how PC users respond. OSX is different enough from OS/2 that people may decide to buy Apple's proprietary closed, overpriced hardware to use OSX.
Here's to the Crazy Ones

I have yet to see a TV ad. :( Of course all I watch is UPN for the Simpson’s, and that 70’s show; and Sci-fi for Battlestar Galactica, both Stargates, and CSI. So its not like I’m hitting primetime spots. :)

I've seen them online, but never anywhere else. Not on TV. Not on billboards. Not on bus stops. Not in magazines/papers. To me, Apple make all these great ads, but then never release them

Are you in the U.S.? They do quite a bit of advertising here, especially in magazines (such as Time, Newsweek, and many of the business magazines).

They do a bit of advertising on billboards, television, and the internet but almost none on the radio.

Perhaps their best form of advertisement is the Apple stores. I heard originally that the stores were meant to be largely a marketing tool to put Apple out in the public view and allow people to spend time on a Mac to see how it works.

If Apple is going to roll trough their Intel transition without releasing any radically different form factors for their computers, then I don't expect too many of the upcoming adds to focus too heavily on how well the OS works. They'll probably be in line with the old iMac and PowerMac ads where the system's design is the sole focus of the visuals with some voice-over bragging about how incredibly fast and stable the system is.

the iPod/iMac connection will probably be stressed even further, coming on the heels of yet another quarter of astronomcal iPod sales. We might even see an actual Mac in some of the iPod+iTunes ads! How hard would it be to put a little image of an iMac or Macbook at the bottom of some of the iPod silhouette posters that are in every bus stop in the US?

I was in the Apple store in the Trafford Centre (UK) on Saturday and the place was HEAVING. This is easily the best way of promoting Macs - actually putting it into the hands of users. iPod drew them in, and Photobooth had em hooked. I was sceptical of Photobooth at first, but seriously people were playing on the iMacs for ages taking pictures of their friends. It was nice to see people having fun on a computer. And when they asked where the computer was, the look on their face when I said its inside the monitor was classic.

Now, this was the UK, where Mac penetration isnt as deep as in the States. Yet the store was heaving as I said. Not a single Mac was free for more than 5 seconds. On my University course, im switching many people.... and unrelated people are coming up to me and asking about my iBook. I can definitely feel some serious Mac momentum at the moment... Apple just need to make sure they nail it with the Mac Mini soon. And I think they should make a 17" monitor too to bundle with it. Im not keen on the idea of a switcher having to buy a separate monitor and I dont buy the 'use your existing monitor' theory either. Many people have old CRT monitors and want something nice and modern. A decent priced Apple display at 17" would go down very nicely in my opinion.

NBC had twice the Apple Intel ad during Law and Order or Crossing Jordan last night. I am not sure which one anymore. But it was there. Wife noticed it before I did.

I agree wholeheartedly, and make it white too differentiate between the "pro" cinema displays, and the "home" 17 inch display.

Very cool! And the bastard in me loves the fact that Intel didn't really know about this ad campaign prior to MWSF - little do they know what they got themselves into. :p :D ;)

I agree that Apple should advertise their computers more, however I think they shouldn't pursue thinsg too agressively until the Intel transition is complete. After all, there are still PowerPC Macs available, which might confuse potential swicthers who were expecting Intels across the line and ultimately disuade them. Further to this, for any switcher set on Intel, their choices are rather limited right now. ;) All in good time though.

what a lame advertisement, just goes to show the stuck up mac following that dissed intel forever and now is all about them. I don't like the theme either, not very original IMO. Maybe something less flame-worthy?

Macrumors seems to be emphasizing the "Intel didn't approve these ads" angle but I bet Intel is loving it.

Of course they'll say they "wouldn't characterize their customers that way" but the ads are quite complementary to Intel I think. ...Yep, I bet they are happy as schoolgirls.

Placement Ads ?

If anyone watched the season premier of 24 last night you would have noticed an iMac being used by Jack Bauer when he was in the ex-president's office who got assasinated last night.
It never did show the back tho so I couldnt tell if it was an Intel or not.
I half expected 24 to be on iTunes today.

I predict we'll start seeing a lot more Mac commercials after the Intel transition is complete
I think you are right. At the moment, Apple is still in the middle of a transition, and there are still bugs to work out. They don't want to get a lot of new users, that could have a lot of problems, making them switch back to Windows. They want to make their product perfect before they really start advertising. As soon as it is complete I think Apple will release a ton of ads.

These Ads (both the banners and commercials) weren't made to make people switch right now, but rather just let everyone know that Apple is changing, and get ready for a big change in the PC world.

...at least that is what I think.

What was the last commercial Apple aired for an actual computer? Was it the Powermac G5 (when they got got shot through the house)?
Isn't that about the time when Apple first started thinking about Intel? Maybe Apple hasn't been advertising on purpose. They wanted to wait until after the Intel transition before they started a frenzy.
...Just a guess.

Dude, WTF? Spoiler much? I haven't watched last nights episode yet (I'm still on season 3, but I have the new season being recorded), so thanks for ruining it for me.
