Global mobile OS market share, January 2018-January 2021:
Android: 74.4% to 71.9%
iOS: 19.6% to 27.5%

Apple is winning over Android users. Obviously it's a pretty slow process given the sheer size of Android users, but iOS and the iPhone lineup has improved markedly in the past few years so I'm not surprised.
Kinda like comparing tap water to bottled water.. yea more people have access to it .. because it’s cheaper and in everything … But depending where it’s from it tastes either like **** or somewhat ok..

Android is available on everything where iOS is a closed exclusive environment.

That percentages includes some 2 year olds crappy toy smart watch and toy

Multitasking and pop-window apps are the two things that keep people to Android.

That and oh so very much more. A huge part is the configurability, it's almost like I own my own device. I know people here won't want to hear it but there is so much more you can do with Android and so easily, if you are prepared to invest some time and are willing to learn. It is why it is still my daily driver, my iPhone 11 does some things very well and I like the integration with my Mac's, but as a device on the go Android is so much better for me.

Just off the very top of my head:

  • File storage / management / transferring is so easy, especially across networks
  • My morning alarm plays a song at random from my Spotify playlist
  • Once the alarm is turned off by me it kicks off a routine which turns on my bedroom lights (Hue), turns on the hot water for my shower and then reads out the weather and then the news.
  • Widgets (actually useful) once setup enable me to see information quickly and control multiple apps without having to open and enter each one
  • There is very little I cannot configure to my personal preference, especially with Nova launcher
  • I have set it so if I swipe up a folder (rather than expanding it) it opens the main app in that folder that I previously set. That is an amazing feature, I love it.
That is just a 5min reflection, there is so much that I take for granted that it can do. Like I say, few here will want to hear it, sadly, easier to chase likes by making snarky Google comments instead. That's fine, my use cases are all that matter to me and hopefully iOS and Android will continue their healthy battle and consumers like me will win.

Imagine coming on this site and writing long comments about people using a different platform than you. Imagine getting that worked up where you’re to the point where in your eyes, they are inferior to you simply because they have a preference that differs from you.

Honestly, a LOT of you have something seriously wrong with you. Like, let people enjoy what they enjoy. Do you do the same thing when people listen to a band that’s one that you don’t like?
I enjoy the Apple products I have, but trying to follow any kind of Apple news is practically unbearable. The number of absolutely insufferable pro-Apple asshats is disturbing. Literally anything that anyone mentions that could even remotely be perceived as negative brings them out. Have an opinion on how a feature could be better? Downvotes. It’s absolutely bizarre behaviour, and honestly really makes my overall Apple experience worse.

I tried to move my girlfriend data from android to iPhone a few days ago.

What a pain in the.... the worse "flow" I've ever seen. So many bugs... 2 hours fighting with wi-fi connection between both and then, after over an hour it "failed" with no specific reason.

Finally we gave up and moved the most crucial data manually (like contact via SIM card)

Keep in mind that the number of smartphone users grew from 2.9 billion to 3.8 billion in that time. That means Android has actually gained more users than iOS, despite a shrinking share. iOS seems to have gained mostly at someone else's expense (Windows Phone?). Android+iOS went from 94% to 99,6%.

The superiority that some people show as well, as if that by having paid thousands of $$$'s for a product somehow makes you better than someone who dared to buy a cheaper product. That really does not help and the irony is they do more harm than good for Apple's reputation.

Funny how Apple uses the ugliest looking Android phone to demo the Move to iOS Android App.

They should just make it use NFC to setup a connection and then use one of the many android exploits to root the device and copy the contents over wirelessly, lol.

Smart consumers don't let companies feuding over profit disrupt their game play. That's another advantage of Android where you can still sideload even if it gets removed from app store. You should be pushing Apple to allow sideloading instead of blindly defending. What if Apple removes all the games that you play? You're just going to sit on your hands and wait?
WHAT IF APPLE REMOVES ALL THE APPS AND OTHER HYPERBOLIC ARGUMENTS: A Post on MacRumors

How would you like me to push apple? not buy an iphone? i already own a Galaxy Z Fold2 and the experience is GARBAGE.

That can't be right, I thought Apple had a monopoly and users had no choice /s

Would like to see APPLE focus more on the Windows Applications for better integration. Would be good to use some sort of iMESSAGES on Windows... but more importantly - updated apps like iTunes... whatever happened to splitting that itunes app out like they did on the Mac?!

That is an 8 year old phone they have used there, the iPhone 5S available at the same time would hardly look like a beauty either.

The HTC One was a great device in its day, the stereo speakers and camera were top notch. I loved mine, in low light there wasn't a phone at the time that came close to the photo quality.

When I went from Android to Apple, the easiest part was getting my -data- transferred (using Google for contacts and calendars). Apple is not a very solid and open standard with many of its technologies -- THAT is what made the transition painful. The lack of interoperability.

It also didn't help that I was limited to Apps only in the AppStore. So no more third party apps that my friends get to use because Apple doesn't like profanity or anything adulty, it is primarily for kids afterall.

Those were the toughest of the transitions.

Now I'm eye'ing Android primarily because the polish I -used- to know Apple as... just.. aren't there anymore.

Whatever the excuse -- I'm not loyal to a company over another. I'm loyal to the tool that lets me achieve my goals the best. This, alone, will put me more in the Android camp because Apple is, primarily an "all or nothing" kind of ecosystem -- that's what they want, which is fair, but slowly becoming not my thing again.

With Android progressing faster than iOS, and the Android phones making use of new technologies faster than iPhones, the trend of iPhone losing market share to Android phones won’t change for a long time to go.

Wow, haven't seen an HTC phone in a long while...

Fun fact: The HTC One M7 (2013) pictured above has a Beats logo on the back.
That’s actually an HTC One (M8). The M7 had two capacitive buttons under the screen — back on the left and home on the right, with a huge, pointless HTC logo in between the two. Multitasking was activated by double tapping the home key.

The M8 had three, on-screen “soft” buttons: from left to right, back, home, and recents/multitasking. The huge HTC logo was still below the screen.

The original HTC One came with Beats in ear headphones, but I don’t think the M8 did. I think their partnership had ended by that point as Apple was in the process of buying Beats (Apple announced that they acquired Beats two months after the M8 came out.)

The M8 headphones still sounded great, though, and the actual phone speakers sounded better than any phone on the market at that time.

Both of these phones are in my top 5 Android phones of all time list; they were gorgeous, well built, had great screens, great speakers, and HTCs version of Android was smooth as hell. I even had the M8 Dot View case, which I think was one of the most original and coolest phone cases ever made.

Alas, the cameras sucked on both of them. They were neat, but they rarely produced great photos. I think it had two lenses; the main camera was only four megapixels, and the second depth camera was two. For some reason, the front facing camera was better than the rear (as well as kind of wide angle).

I, um, just wanted share that, I guess. Lol.

In 100% agreement

Yes your right it’s a HTC One M8, it’s the best Android phone of all time in my opinion and I still got mine and look after it fondly. Like you said the audio is amazing. This phone is from 2014, but it is still as snappy as an iPhone. Shame HTC are no more. Anyways I got the 6s+ and MacBook Pro in 2015 and completely switched over to the Apple ecosystem from then onwards.

HTC was actually a the majority owner of Beats for a time, they reduced their ownership to a minority stake, then eventually were bought out completely for a few hundred million dollars. About a year later Apple bought Beats for $3 billion 🥴

Once WhatsApp rolled out their Android / iOS migration, we should see more people moving ( both ways ).

How do down votes on a forum filled with strangers make your overall Apps experience worse? The forum members aren't officially speaking for Apple. Seems rather illogical to hold Apple accountable (re: overall Apple experience) for what strangers on a forum say of which Apple has no control over.

Allow virtual devices like bluestacks, better notifications, other browser engines, sideloading and USB-C then maybe more would consider.
