I am not sure we have the same concept of "easier on the eyes". Whether a photon comes from a backlight or from a pixel, it is a photon. Likewise, pentile pixel arrangement does make edges of fonts and things a bit "fuzzy" so points lost on that.

You have had several OLED phones and base your power consumption estimate how? Different phones are different. I know OLED displaying white screen uses more power than an LCD. Fact.

Look, it is fine, you like OLED. OLED is a newer technology and is absolutely great... but not for everything. OLED is fantastic for television. It isn't strictly best for mobile.

Based on several other phones that were LCD including several iPhones that never lasted as long as any of my OLEDs. I will tell you there is a difference between real life experience than a spec sheet. I really think you just need to give OLED a chance before knocking it out especially since more companies are going that route. Funny, how OLED is touted for its power savings over LCD by every company that implements it. FACT!

I would say it's the other way around. It's a lot easier to make 75 million of three base models, than it is to make 75 million of a dozen or more models, because fewer models means fewer differing parts to be sourced.

With fewer parts involved, it'd also be easier to estimate how many of a certain part are needed.

In the end, they're both ordering huge quantities. The biggest difference is that Apple contracts parts and assembly out to others, while Samsung also makes many of their parts and assembles phones, in their own factories.

It's easier to design 3 models than 10 models, but the manufacturing large amounts of the exact same part that also has the latest components (unlike the majority of samsung's phones, of which the cheaper models could use slightly older parts that are easier to mass produce) should be much harder. For example, you can probably easily manufacture slower last gen SSDs by the hundreds of millions but it's much harder to do with the latest gen because the manufacturing capacity won't be at a satisfactory level for some time.

Then I guess you buy into any marketing buzz. It is a fact that OLED is less power efficient than LED when displaying a mostly white screen. That is how it is. You are comparing entirely distinct devices do determine power consumption? Anecdotal at best.

You're too stuck and hard headed in your old ways so there is nothing left to talk to you about. Stay in the LCD land all I care, while the world moves past you.

Just because there is something "newer" doesn't mean it is more fit for purpose. You could launch a rocket to get over a river or just use a bridge. OLED is great for television. It isn't hands-down better for mobile devices for the MANY reasons already listed. Beyond burn-in, inferior daylight performance, cost to repair, pentile pixels, color shifting, low benefit from "infinite contrast", the fact that Samsung uses it (they also sell that rubbish curved screen gimmick) does not mean it is better. Apple's LED displays currently rank highly for color reproduction, brightness, and overall performance.

I'm glad you are excited about OLED in iPhone/iPad. Just be aware of the downsides.

Stick to your opinions. I'm moving on. It's not worth arguing with someone that fails to see any realization outside of their own stubbornness.

Ok, but other than your claim that "my new OLED phone has great battery life", you've offered no reason why I should be excited about OLED. The only thing you've done is say that I am stubborn.

Again, glad you are excited about OLED potentially being the next display technology. I am less thrilled and offered actual reasons why. Would have much preferred Apple stick with LCD or wait for the next obvious fit-for-purpose display technology: microLED.

Don't really care what gets you excited. I already provided my reasons for why I like OLED. As I stated before, stick with your LCD if that makes you happy, but right now it's obvious you're just trolling.

The only "reasons" you've stated was anecdotal experience with other phones that have OLED. Whatever power savings OLED might offer would be offset by the whiteness of iOS. It would be wonderful if Apple changed iOS to be much darker. This would let OLED power efficiency "shine". Sadly, burn-in would still be an issue for static things like the clock and other icons along the top.

Also, I think you may want to double check definition of "trolling". I've made no inflammatory or off-topic posts in order to provoke or cause discord. I genuinely think OLED is a bad choice for mobile devices. But marketing is powerful and people hear "OLED is new and better" so it must be better. Like those rediculous curved Samsung TVs.
