I have owned more than a few AMOLED phones and do not know of these screen inconsistencies you speak of. OLED screens do conserve battery life more than LCD and there is proof of that not just hear speak. For one, it is because OLED lights up only the necessary pixels that is needed rather than requiring back-lighting the whole screen to be on all the time to pass light thru the pixels as LCD does. This is where it saves on battery.

OLED to me and some others close to me I know prefer phones with OLED screens as opposed to LCD because it is easier on our eyes. But each to their own in that regard.
Have you seen iOS lately? It is blindingly white.

I can't speak personally for your area. My area, they receive shipments almost every day, but they sell so quickly, it will be harder to get a pair, depending on your location and Store.

They get them regularly in my area too, but I'm always a day late and a dollar short so I gave up until they are in adequate supply.

I never understand that people are so proud of a company making that exorbitant much of profits with such a minimal effort. It can be translated to one thing: YOU PAY TOO MUCH FOR THE PRODUCT.
Or that they make the best phone! I'll pay more for the best phone, just like I pay more for the best
computer, a Mac. Or better cars or a better house etc..

69Mustang. How about how OLED screens will be integrated into iPhone hardware and any resulting optimizations and performance improvements not currently implemented by Android OEMs? Trope enough for you or too hard to fathom?
What optimizations and performance improvements are you talking about? Afaik there's been nothing written about Apple optimizing OLED. If there is, I'd love to read about it.

Ermmm, huawei can do it, Samsung can do it, Oppo can do it... but Apple can't? Look at the fastest growing brands (Samsung had a misfortune with the note 7, luckily for Apple) in the world... they all sell Amoled by the millions.

No phone maker is doing it at the scale that Apple is making. Period. Huawei and Samsung produce a lot more phones, sure, but they don't manufacture hundred of units of the same phone. The s7 sold 25 million in launch quarter. The iPhone 7 sold 75 million units. If a Samsung phone needs a component that has a shortage, they can switch to another part for another model. If an iPhone has a part shortage of a part, it can only weather that shortage because every phone that Apple sells needs the same parts.

You see you say that grumpymom, but the fact is MacRumors has been MORE then happy to plaster Apples (Tim Cooks) political support on its front pages, like the trans gender story the other day. It does seem to be rather hypocritical to say the least, but then again this site always has been. 9to5mac I find to be a lot more critical of Apple sometimes. Then again I'm sure Apple is by no means the only company who's supply chains exploit children which is disgusting really.
I'm just letting them know there's an area on MR where they can post this topic for discussion. This thread is about display technology and we don't want it to get derailed or moved to PRSI because a new member may not yet be familiar with the forum structure.

There was an article on this subject on one of my newsfeeds that did state that once Apple/Tim became aware of the children's plight, there was a temporary halt placed until they can determine the situation and get it sorted, without causing these impoverished people to lose their only means of survival. So in the sense that Apple has stopped to investigate, Apple's part in this is not that deep a story. The story itself is very deep.

How about this? Apple reaps 94% of the profits for cell phones because the optimization of
IOS is so good! HOWZAT?

Apple reaps such profits because they only make high-margin upper-tier handsets and they have a natural monopoly on the iOS handset market. Anyone who wants an iOS phone has to pay an exorbitant price for it if they don't want to buy used. Many people without heavy needs would buy a cheaper/less powerful iPhone if one were available, but Apple does not make low-end phones and no one else can make iOS handsets to bring a product to compete with Apple, let alone introduce something for that market segment. It's called "captive audience".

There is the "SE". Still more expensive than other handsets but by Apple standards...

How is Apple going to solve the problems of OLED phone displays? Oversaturation, blue decay, visibly asymmetric pixels.

It's funny how people equate being FIRST with anything makes them the best. Ask Samsung how thats worked out for them. I First heard about the apple watch over a year before it launched. All the sudden Samsung rushes a watch out and claims first to the market. It was DOA. Do you honestly think Apple couldn't have used the newer tech if it wanted too? They wait until prices level off and tech is refined before jumping in the pool head first without checking the depth. Their theory and approach has paid off in spades.

I don't think it is funny as those folks who continue to claim that Apple being LAST is because they want to it make the best.

So the big thing for iPhone 6sssss will be oled. My Mac Pro feels kinda new :)

Fascinating seeing so many getting worked up and a major case of the shakes over the "Pro" label. Likely the same sad who get worked up over watchbands and emoji.

Fortunately, Apple's customer base don't have time to give two trucks.

"Emoji pro" you heard it here first ! It's gonna be huge.

And ....do you want to be seen with next to the guy who is sporting a "wristband pro" clearly his wristband , while looking identical to yours is made for professionals and far far superior ....for only $25 more...

On a seriously note: the people on here who get themselves the most worked up over "pro" are the ones that label themselves as pros and are very vocal about be it . It's self importance , and most people here derive the income from using a computer these days, and frankly for most of the "pros" here, Any modern computer will meet their needs - a "pro" label not needed, in my opinion. FYI that is not aimed at yourself .

Can you define "Best"?

Well, the Samsung S7 and S7 edge were sold in the millions. If the Note 7 hadn't the battery problems, the landscape would have been totally different.

Aaaaaaaand... nobody cares. I don't say that dismissively. The vast majority of the consuming public doesn't care about SoC's, core count, or any of the technical gobbledygook. Why? None of it is customer facing. The OEM's know it well. Why do you think companies spend inordinate amounts of money on ads for their cameras, screens, apps, etc.? Because that's what consumers care about.

The only people who care about the inside tech are the people who don't matter from a consuming perspective: tech geeks and tech press. It's the same on the Android side regarding "pure Android". Nobody cares, 'cept the reviewers and the vocal geek minority... while the consumers actually spend money on Samsung's with Touchwiz.

Face it, we (some of us) care about stuff that gets the side eye in public. Superior hardware/software integrated optimization never sold a product. Never will.

I'm not talking about tech "gobbledygook", I'm talking about perfomance when running apps, or even the ability to run certain classes of apps. Running a game for an hour and having the frame rate drop to 20 FPS is noticable and embarrassing. As for this particular topic, a lot of display tech would be the same kind of "gobbledygook" since in many cases the general public isn't going to be able to tell or care if the color gamut is 5% larger or if the PPI is 500 instead of 375.

I think te hardest thing abou this news is this; I was interested in upgrading from my 6 to the new 8 this year, but if Apple is going to improve "all" the models in 2018, well maybe I should wait. With the exception of the battery the old 6 is running really great and there has to be some really compelling reasons to upgrade to the 8 now.

But maybe Apple will surprise us and have some really "to die for" features on the 8 this fall.

FPS of 20 or lower? Try a Mac (pro)

My old Moto Nexus 6 has an AMOLED display that while brilliant, constantly drains the phone's battery during normal usage. I also find this AMOLED screen to be overly saturated, mutes whites, and doesn't offer an accurate representation of color for when taking photos or during the post-editing process. I never meant Apple would be optimizing OLED technology. Rather, I'm confident Apple has found a way to more efficiently integrate it into the iPhone architecture much better than some competitor OEMs do currently.

My old S5 still has a great display and kickass battery life (original battery). Not quite as nice as my S7 display, but nice nonetheless. Anecdotes... amirite?:) I imagine the panels Apple gets from Sammy will be calibrated very similarly to the panels that have earned Displaymate's best display for a number of years running. Hopefully they will also have the ability to choose display modes as well. One of the best features of Samsung displays.

I truly believe you. It may not have been what you meant, but it's exactly what you wrote. Unlike my clairvoyant wife, I can't discern the intent written between the lines. Neither can she, but I am not dumb enough to dissuade her of that belief.:D
