Brainless adverts - advertising a 'brainy' feature. Oh the irony! :roll eyes:

You cannot be Sirious!

Sam Jackson really mustve been desperate for the cash and for the Zooey Avatar ... she clearly was taken on in the hope that her stunning appearance would distract us from what her own brain was conjugating ... "Siri ... what is intelligence? Do I have any?"

"Hello Zooey. According to my findings ... it would appear ... you have more talent in your little finger .. than ... the rest of your whole body"

"Gee .. thanks Siri!"

D'oh! :p

If ever there were an actor/actress whom I would guess would be in an iphone commercial, it would be Zooey Deschanel. #hipsterposterchild

Celebrities. Celebrities.
- "15 minutes of fame" Karl Bartos

Sorry, nothing to do with the article. I just think of this song when I see the word celebrities.:D and the song is not even about these sort of celebrities. Good song though.

I'm Talking to YOU, I'm Talking to YOU, I'm Talking to YOU, I'm Talking to YOU, BEEP. ;P

Yeah, I will definitely stay away from Verizon knowing they like that talentless hipster. Oh wait, she can actually create the sound of fingernails on a chalkboard... that's a kind of talent.

Hopefully Siri 2.0 on the 2012 iPhone will bring the improvements needed to make it more than a novelty.
ITA, I actually downloaded the Evi app just for fun (don't really use either to be honest) and it actually sounds more real/less robotic and also on the odd ocassion I've tried it (usually when showing someone how Siri works), Evi totally recognises my voice/request with 100% accuracy. Given how much of a perfectionist Apple are about things, I'm very suprised that some little app trumps Siri so easily. Apple definately needs to really step it up with Siri if its ever to be more than a novelty. Would love an updated version to us a less robotic voice, male/female voice options and roll out more funtionality beyond the US, ie UK restaurant/business info, etc.

If I could actually have a conversation with Siri (as Samuel Jackson does), I'd upgrade to the iPhone 4S...but this isn't going to happen so I'm going to keep on waiting for the next iteration lol.

Nice to see another Karl Bartos fan. Esperanto is one of my favorite albums.

Another great song with good meaning...

"We expect the future to be like a wave. We think it's gonna carry us away. We wake up right now in the electronic dawn. But the future happens to us, while we're doing other things."

Great words for us living in this digital generation, IMO.

I was praising this application when I first got the phone, but now that I've had it a while I find that it's quicker to do most things manually. Siri never responds as quickly as this video shows. They obviously cut out some of the wait times. She also didn't say, which is my number one problem, I'm sorry I can't do that right now. I could have dialed the phone and had the conversation by the time the wheel stopped spinning and she came back and told me that she can't do it right now. The only thing I really use the software for is sending text messages. It does work pretty well for dictation and really helps while driving.

the fact that they're using celebs to sell means that iphone sales are down.. can I say, come on iphone 5?

this made me lul-

Samuel: what time is it?
SIRI: what?
Samuel: what ****in time is it?
SIRI: what...?
Samuel: SAY WHAT AGAIN....I DARE YOU MOTHA FUC*A.

I tried saying "what" to Siri with interesting results. She'll repeat back to you the last thing she said, but won't show you the words or resulting search/action. No biggie if you're in mid-session with Siri - you can just scroll up and look, but somewhat useless otherwise.

Well the ads may don't have Apple logo at the end as the usual. It might be sponsored by both Verizon and AT&T. But it's listed on iPhone ads section on Apple website. So, I don't know, maybe Apple paid for the ads too? Or simply because it's an iPhone ads?

It's not as good as usual iPhone ads though.

Can you Think Different and come up with a rumor?

Arguably the entire Think Different series was entirely about celebrities (though none of them acted in any of the TV commercials).

I'm missing the point here. Jackson and Deschanel aren't playing themselves any more than Hodgman or Long are. And what about the Jeff Goldblum testimonials? Does selective amnesia count when trying to create a rumor?

Why why why didn't i sell my stock at $640?!

These ads are as wrong-headed as most Microsoft ads. I do worry that without Steve Jobs in the building, we'll be seeing more boneheaded moves by Apple's modest brain trust. Jobs was what every company needs, a "Mr. No" with the good taste and ruthless authority to cut bad ideas off at the knees before they got to network television, or to market. Today, Apple stock is down to $572.98. I am seriously thinking about selling my long-squirreled shares next week before the "Apple stumbles" meme kicks into high gear.

Speaking as someone who still has an iPhone 3G I have to say I love Siri. OK, a lot of it only works in the US which makes it less compelling in Europe, but I might even keep the American voice when I upgrade to an iPhone 5 (so long as it does NOT have glass on two sides!). She does sound like the computer off Star Trek... although I could live with Six of Nine as well. Literally! The iPhone 5 had better get some curves...

Do keep up - iPhone sales were up 84% in the first quarter (or the profits were up that much on the back of increased iPhone sales) and Siri has a lot to do with that.

Siri is the best thing on the iPhone, and these ads are a good way of showing how useful it is. It was nice to see the male actor (dunno his name) having a conversation with Siri, and Siri still not getting tripped up. Can't see an Android or MS phone being that well behaved or competent.

This line isn't quite right: "Apple rarely, if ever, uses celebrities in its advertising"?

Have you ever seen the Switch series of ads? Several celebrities were featured in those. Also... umm... Think Different?
