forget the Think Different Campaigns with Jeff Goldblum? I think he was a celebrity back then...

Not sure commercials are newsworthy, but anything related to Apple... I guess is printable.

Pages of comments go by before somebody finally mentions Goldblum.

And let us not forget Richard Dreyfuss, the very familiar voiceover artist for the Think Different commercials. Which only goes to prove that Apple is no longer Apple with Steve gone. Or something like that. It must prove something, probably what I already believed.

This is another post-Steve move. Was told Steve couldn't stand celebrity endorsements in commercials.

Post states

"Apple rarely, if ever, uses celebrities in their advertising, particularly as themselves. The "I'm A Mac" ads featured Justin Long and John Hodgman, but they were playing characters rather than acting as a celebrity endorsement. One notable exception was actor Will Ferrell, who did a number of iPod ads a few years back."

Do the early days of iTunes and iPods not count? I seem to remember a bunch of ads featuring music celebrities as themselves including one with a stage full of them all at once. Seems this statement is a bit off.

I agree! And what about Jeff Goldblum? He did a number of Apple Ads like the original iPod ad. And he narrated a number of Apple ads too.

Tested this out. Everything worked except the reminder for putting gespatcho on ice for an hour. Siri set the reminder, but it was for some of the weirdest things. Like a tv spot in an hour or something else. It apparently was confused on what I said but understood I needed a reminder in an hour.

Not to be a nitpicker, but let me nitpick that for you. It's "gazpacho", not "gespatcho". Maybe that's why it failed?

Voice recognition, AI ,Natural languages and other technologies involved are very complex in nature . On other hand ""Siri is just beta product " is overused excuse now. It does not support many countries ,languages , accent etc ..

Apple could have dropped it altogether or delayed it for some more time fine tuning it internally. This is the way Apple work. I find Steve jobs quote very inspiring "We don't ship junk" Beta products can damage reputation.

Siri.... Describe what Marsellus Wallace looks like!

Any timeline for siri to work decently in Canada. I use it once a month around here (I complained about it on another Siri thread so I apologize for being the negative nancy)

It,s not an 'excuse', it's a statement of fact. There is no way to develop and polish this software without a global beta release.

boring, esp the Sam Jackson one, could of been better if they let him be angry Sam Jackson, didn't expect much out of Zooey, she is nice to look at and that's about it

still better than that embarrassing Rock God one

It's interesting that these ads have no background music, which is one reason I think they seem so generic and flat. Trying to remember the last Apple ad I saw that didn't have some good music to enhance the narrative.

Probably man vs woman...most men choose the black iPhone while women definitely prefer the white iPhone...but the white wasn't always available.

Funny; when I went to buy the 4S when it first came out I found an abundance of white ones and had to hunt for a few days to get a black one (I guess I could have done it online but the chase was better than the kill at the time).

Who is Zooey Dechanel??? I have heard the name mentioned, but what does she do?

Did you watch Almost Famous? Or the recent Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy movie? Or her show on Fox?

Theres a lot of hate for Siri....I like it, it seems to work mostly for me....

Last night I cooked something in the microwave. I had to cook for 5 minutes, set for 1 minute, and then cook for 4 minutes. Both times I stood there tryin to get Siri to set a timer for 6 minutes, and then later for 4 minutes.

Both times I stood there trying to get Siri to understand me that the microwave finished cooking.

Me: Set a timer for 4 minutes
Siri: I'm sorry, I don't understand "Set a timer for minutes"
Me: Set......A......Timer.....For.....Four.....Minutes.....
Siri: Ok, here's your timer for 1 minute.

For you. Works great for me.

Yep. I'm amazed at how well it does work about 90% of the time. I was even using it this morning to add reminders and play music while riding by bicycle!

Hopefully Siri 2.0 on the 2012 iPhone will bring the improvements needed to make it more than a novelty.

What a bunch of crap. It's way more than a novelty now. I use it all the time for add reminders and appointments and sending texts and playing music. It's so much faster than typing and going through all the menus in apps. It's way past novelty status.

What it does need is for Apple to release the API so that 3rd-party apps can use SIRI.
