The only thing the Macrumors forum hates more than Apple not innovating is when Apple is innovating.

No it's misguided innovation or wasting time on products and features few people actually want while neglecting or ignoring those we do.

The eyeglass fad has already proven to be a non-starter. If Apple are serious about this then they've seriously lost the plot!

Scoble is the same guy that claims this years iPhone will be see thru...lol. I wouldn't put too much stock into anything he says. He is no longer relevant and will say anything to get his name mentioned. I didn't read the FB post but I am sure it also included a link to his new book he is writing...lol. Oh, and as many names as he can drop.

Last to the party isn't innovating.

FWI - The definition of innovating is to make changes in something established, especially by introducing new methods, ideas, or products. Exactly what Apple does.

Remember this is from Robert Scoble, who can kill your product dead with just a rave review and a photo.

Does Apple truly believe AR is the future that the masses will embrace? Are they banking on some sort of distopian Trump world where we live underground wearing visors to escape reality? AR is cool for sure, but to invest so heavily in it seems like a reach.

You're typing AR, but then pretending it's VR? AR isn't about being visually transported to another world. It's about overlaying (ideally) useful information over your normal vision.

Came here to post that. Scoble was the original "Glasshole" whose actions damaged Google's efforts. But Google also lacked a coherent product strategy at that point.

Does anyone know how Snapchat's glasses effort has fared recently?

so, smart glasses like Google glass.. I wonder how different this will be from Apple.. and this time weather Apple brings it to the market at all..

No news on the Apple car so i wonder weather this we'll see same fate.. or weather it will be a success.

Yup. Google Glass was Google publicly testing the kind of thing Apple tests behind closed doors. It got the nerds excited, but it didn't go much further than that.

Snapchat's glasses? They're hard to get on purpose. People wouldn't want them if anyone could get them.

Get a Google Home, and see how far behind the ball Apple is. But 2-3 years in testing, total perfection, release 5 years too late, 6 colors..next to the 2020 Mac Pro update

I think they will be designed to augment Apple products. Among other things, if you use them you would see:

- Headphone sockets on iPhone 7
- The dreadful bezel on the LG 5K monitor would become symmetrical
- MacBook Pros would show 32 Gb of memory installed
- You would see user upgradeable parts in their products
- Battery indicator bars would be "fuller"
- Tim Cook would look far less smug, and perhaps disappear from Apple altogether

It's an augmented reality I would rather like.

My nephews got the HTC Vive for Christmas - VR is definitely an interesting space - and one that has massive applications. I was prepared to be "meh", but the tech is really getting impressive.
Going to be massive resources heading in this direction for the next decade. As others have said - love to the big A put out some serious hardware - both desktop & portable - that would allow people to develop VR / AR, as well as "consume" it.

What? So they can't improve Mac pros and yet invest in ar? I think I heard lack of cha Ching going into his pocket soon.

None of their lineup can run VR, better work on AR and hope people will be happy with that. AR is (generally) a lot less demanding, so they can make a new product, ride on a wave of buzzwords, and not actually have to put serious hardware in any of the Mac lineup.

Maybe they will combine all of the watch and phone functions into the glasses so you will see everything constantly displayed in front of your very eyes. The glasses would pair with the Apple Watch, iPhone and the forth coming Magic Apple Ring. Of course this is just setting the stage for the ultimate product, the iProbe which will come in various shapes and sizes to be inserted into the body orifice of your choice. This will allow Apple to communicate directly with your brain. Imagine being controlled by Tim and the rest of the Apple team. Think of the possibilities!! I can think of a few here who would jump at the chance!!

Too bad they won't have any MBPs, Minis, or Mac Pros that can render high resolution VR content.
Too bad they won't have anything and don't have anything that will render ANY VR content. Oculus kicked Mac to the curb way back in beta because of weak ass GPUs, even in the "Pro" line. I don't think Mac OS was even a consideration at any point in time for the Vive. That's why I bought a Win10 machine a couple of months ago rather than continue to struggle with Bootcamp, cMP, and a MacVidCard GTX 970. Now I have a VR machine that "just works."

I'm going to take a moment to be a speculative dork. I really really hope nothing like this comes out this year, that sounds way too soon and the AirPods, and Watch could still use some more refinements. Also the Mac, our poor baby needs more attention. I totally want them to make augmented glasses, I'm sure they can come up with something really neat... but I'd hate for them to jump into it so quickly. I like the Apple that moves just a little slower. I'd rather see a 2019 release, instead of 2018.

AR is more Apple's thing than VR. AR is social, and VR (although fun) is inherently anti-social.

Until we get new battery tech I don't see how useful glasses can be. We need all day battery. If prescription glasses you can't take them off to charge.

And that's just hardware. Lets all hope for a good platform when this comes out.

And lets give Cook the oportunity to prove himself and his vision with this product category.

glassOS coming!

LOL Apple and VISION, doesn't go together lately!
