Anyone find this a bit strange? There's no way there was extreme demand for the White model vs the Black. I was online at 12AM PST as soon as the preorders opened and the White model was gone in minutes. I have a feeling this is a supply issue and we'll hopefully hear from Apple after the weekend for real stats. And the Black model is still 11/2 delivery right now! *weird*

Thoughts?

since it is constructed of similar materials to the iphone 5, maybe people are afraid it will scratch easily and are opting for the white...

Are you kidding me? The stress of a kid asking for a $329 gift? Wow, I thought I have seen it all on these forums. Would you actually get them a BMW if thats what they wanted for Christmas? You have to draw the line somewhere...

I tell my daughter that if Santa thinks she's being too greedy, he'll only leave her a piece of coal. Keeps the demands reasonable.

The slate back on my 5 is still pristine.

After black iPhone 4, 4S and 5 along with a black iPad 1, 2 and 3 I guess I finally just wanted a change and went with a white Mini.

Besides. the white has the silver chamfer edge that shines.

Maybe it's a generational thing (although I'm 66). But I like seeing my hardware look like it's been used as heavily as I pushed it, taken to as many places as I've taken it, and not been treated like some delicate thing that has to be left at home in a drawer.. A lot of people get special satisfaction from a pair of jeans that shows the rigors they've traveled through or a flannel shirt that's been with them for decades. I don't get this keep-it-pristine approach to our technological products.

Me either. It's so funny to think that at the same time we see this obsession over precluding scuffs, dings and scratches, there are also furniture makers busy "distressing" new products to make them look antique sooner (at a price, natch), and fabric designers incorporating a mottled look into "reproduction" quilting fabrics so that the finished goods look like they first graced some Victorian parlor, i.e. designs to mimic irregular fading or water stains from when some 19th century hurricane conquered great-grandma's roof. Go figure!

On topic: I went for the black stuff with the iPad mini and an upgrade from my iPad original to the 4th gen.

I am in the same boat. Looking to hold out till at least Q1 results I think.
But most likely will exit if it hits 700 again.

think about it this way, nobody has been buying apple products ahead of the keynote as they knew a lot of updates to products were imminent so the stock prices 'should' come up again soon in theory.

The only thing that has bugged me over the mini launch is the fact that you dont get a free plug thrown in!!

The iPad mini will sell well. No doubt about it. But the fact that pre-orders sold out so quickly means nothing. Apple's pre-orders are limited. They have obligations to stores that want their inventory stocked. And they can only manufacture a certain amount in a certain amount of time. Based on the rumors here, they had a lot of difficulty manufacturing the necessary units they needed too.

LOL @ people spinning it being sold out as bad for apple.

But then, I knew they would, I just wanted to see how they were going to try and do it!

The real controversy is this: How is it possible that white sold out before black?

I think Apple must make much fewer white ones, because everyone prefers the black ones, right? I mean, it goes without saying that they're more styling.

Slate blk is quite ugly IMO. Wht/silver is more classy. I still have my of iPad n iPhone n def these looked better in combo than all revision products.

This is true. Remember, some models of the Surface also sold out within a day. We don't know what the supply was.

I have a black iPhone 5 and it is in great condition. I just think the white iPad Mini looks better.

Yeah. I can't put my finger on what it is. But the black iPad Mini just doesn't look good... weird.

Target? Seriously? Just go to an actual Apple Store. Or order it online. Go on their app at like 10pm and see if the Apple Store near you has in store pick up. If you had simply ordered it, you'd have your iPhone 5 by now even if you had it shipped directly to you.

i've been to several places. my point is target has yet to actually see one show up in the store. I've tried the online thing several times...not worth my time anymore. Unless you pre-ordered in the middle of the night or watch the online reservation deal every night, there is not chance to get one in person. Why are other countries getting the iPhone 5 now when they can't even make enough for the USA?

I preordered at 4:40am this morning.. I'm at a bit of a loss how there isn't a delay in the black iPad Minis 10 hours later? They either:

A)Had ALOT more Black available, in preparation

OR

B)The saturation of iPads has reached and won't sell all that well.

They sold out because they only have a thousand available? Besides I don't trust apple, they manipulate sales to make it look successful

Yes, precisely, just to make it look that way...

They much prefer having all the iPad Minis sitting in a cupboard in Cupertino somewhere doing nothing.

Function is not innovation.

The screen are greats, but seriously adding USB3.0 to the mini is not innovation? Fusion is not an Apple innovation. It's rebranded hybrid drive. The only thing fancy is the hedious logo they are using.

It's not a hybrid drive. The hybrid drive like the one Seagate sells is a mechanical drive with a small SSD (32GB) built in.

Apple is taking a mechanical drive an pairing it up with a large SSD (2 separate components) and then combining them in software to show up as 1 logical drive.

Get your facts straight before assuming nonsense.

yeah man i know exactly what you mean. I'm not wasting my time waking up at 3am to pre-order an iPHone 5. It's now over a month later and you can't find one anywhere still. I have completely lost interest in even getting the new phone and am looking at other options now.

Nothing wrong with ordering online.

I take it you don't have kid and have never gone through one of this "I must have abc for chritmas" drama at home. When kids want something for Christmas or Bday, there is no substitute that can appease them. That is why you have fight in toy store around Christmas for the hottest toys. The stress is incredible and parent will just have to pay up and get those hot toys in black market.

Life's tough. They'll have to learn that lesson at some point anyway.

Target? LOL I get laundry detergent at Target. I get my Apple products from the Apple store or Apple.com.

Took me all of 10 min to get my iPhone 5. Sure I had to wake up at 2:55, big deal. Took 2 minutes to get my ipad mini. Again, set alarm, grabbed iphone, click, click, done.

Lesson: Wake up and order online.

The fact that black iPad minis are still available for 11/2 delivery should clue you into the fact the fact that people didn't just overwhelmingly prefer white. Either they are behind in producing the white components, or they severely favored producing black models.

Plus given the fact there was a 2 week delay at midnight last night for the white models, it's simply the fact the supply isnt there. Every poll conducted there is about a 60/40 split for those that prefer black. One product doesn't change that for the majority of the population.

Ordered a white 16GB WiFi. Delivery is Nov. 2. Chose the color because of how elegant wife's iPhone 5 is. I have the black 5, and like it (no scuffs with a great deal of use), and felt all black might be overwhelming at the size of a mini.

You make me laugh. In one breath you say you swear never to use android tablets and admits your view is 8 month out of date.

That's how bad it was. 8 months isn't that long and during the length of time I had my Android tablet, zero improvements were made. Not to mention that even then there were about 10 decent true tablet apps compared to thousands for iPad, maybe they have approached triple digits by now, but I buy something I can use when I buy it, not to have to wait for 2 years before the apps catch up. Why should I continue to support a subpar user experience?

that's not the point man. it's now over a month after it's been released and no place has them in store still, but they keep releasing them in other countries? ordering in the middle of the night is a little over the top IMO.

My mistake I thougt they were using something advanced, not just a half arsed rip off of ReadyBoost, which has been around since Vista.

Which ever way, it's not innovation, unless you count copying as innovation. But it's Apple so that doesn't matter.
