When demand outstrips supply Apple can run the production line 24/7 (and they do) and still not have enough. They can open up more factories (and Foxconn has) and still not have enough. Once you get your MBA these things will become more understandable to you. Real life is not as easy as SIM City.

Why not meet the demand in your home country first before selling it abroad?

that would be discrimination ;)

Get your MBA and you will know why!

The iPhone 5 is a good example. It's almost November already and it still says 3-4weeks and they have been announcing new countries where it goes on sale. Not a single phone anywhere at Target, Sam's, Best Buy, Apple Store etc. here in Dallas. There is NOT that much demand for the device to still be sold out this long.

Understandable. We all know the iPad 3 is superior to the iPad Mini, so I'm not trying to justify my purchase because I could have easily kept my iPad 3. If I dislike the iPad Mini, I'll just return it, keep the money, and just save it.

Lol..

We know this,,, but what gets me is Apple switched off selling the iPad 3 overnight.... A least the iPad 2 stuck around fir a few months selling at a reduced price.

Apple's way of saying, "We KNOW iPad 3 was great, but hopefully we will force people for a "less resolution experience" iPad mini, if we remove it completely." And only sell it through the Refurb.

This gets my goat !!

Oh well,, i better get AppleCare then for my iPad 3.

I am sure that the website wasn't up exact at 8am uk time but it was about 8:10 when i did my order for black and white 16gb and booth saying two weeks

i know its probs down to getting white but cant believe sold out that quick

going to visit some stores next week on launch day and see if i can just pick them up

I ordered @ 08:02 two white 16gb and got 2 weeks (estimated delivery 15 Nov) Black was 2 Nov at that time, now I see it's also 2 weeks.

They do this all the time. Keep adding new stores to sell the products they can't produce quick enough. Launch in 875 countries and you can't even walk into an Apple owned store and buy one. iPhone 4, 4S, 5, and iPad 2 come to mind. Remember with the iPad 2 they added Target, WalMart, Toys R US etc as retailers and they didn't have any in their own stores. But of course it's in the consumers best interest to not be able to buy one at more locations.

yeah man i know exactly what you mean. I'm not wasting my time waking up at 3am to pre-order an iPHone 5. It's now over a month later and you can't find one anywhere still. I have completely lost interest in even getting the new phone and am looking at other options now.

It's a shame they didn't price these low enough, they're would have sold really well.

What's really a shame are consumers who care more about the company than they do about themselves.

Because you couldnt get it on the first day? Honestly, i think apple should do in store pick up as the norm for launches to limit the scalping.... I also think they need more ramp up time.

whaaaaa... they don't make enough for launch!
whaaaaa... I don't like the specs, it sucks!
whaaaaa... why is it 7", I don't like the size!
whaaaaa... I don't like the price point!
whaaaaa... I'm not waiting in line to get one, I'm going with another brand!

whaaaaa, whaaaa, whaaaa!!

If you don't want one don't get one!!!

I got order confirmation at 316AM eastern time.

When I had it in the cart (I have my credit card on file on apple store app webpage already). When I had it in the cart at 315AM, it said 11/2.

Transaction literally took 45 seconds from the time I loaded the app. When checked out, it said 2 week delay.

I heard the pre orders actually opened 2 minutes before 3AM? So if pre orders opened at 258AM eastern time and I ordered at 316AM. That makes me 18 minutes?

So I missed the cut off by 1 minute?

That sucks. I ended up ordering the black and the white 16GB wifi. Guess will return one of them.

No you didn't. Miss any cut-off. I recieved my email reciept in AZ at 12:08 and I had will ship in 2 weeks! This is crap. Why bother to pre-order at all? I could go into any of the three stores here and pick one up on 11/2.

I was watching the site closely (I didn't want to stay up any later) and it opened maybe a minute after 12:00 am.

Are you kidding me? The stress of a kid asking for a $329 gift? Wow, I thought I have seen it all on these forums. Would you actually get them a BMW if thats what they wanted for Christmas? You have to draw the line somewhere...

Well I can't say much about Christmas... but last Hanukkah my parents surprised me with a BMW 328i and I never even really pushed them about it, it was just that my Nissan lease was over... so maybe some parents don't have to draw any lines if their kids are good and go to the number 1 school in up-state NY.....

hummmmm sold out already.
I wonder what the Android fanboys are thinking now. ;)

Every time is the same story. Apple will fail, Apple did not do good enough, it's too expensive. the specs sucks, etc. Then they get smashed with incredible sales.

Pretty funny.

Not just Android fanboys, look at these forums bitching about price and specs.

I disagree with Apples attitude on a few matters, however big leaps in innovation cannot happen every year, changing just for the sake of changing a design does not always make sense. Some years are going to be spec jumps, this year seems to be doing well in the sense they updated just about everything.

People really do expect a lot from Apple at all times.

Peoples exhibit a your honor...The iPod nano 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.

I'm showing delivery of 11/2 for all iPad Mini's (WiFi) on the Apple store right now. Did they magically find stock somewhere?

Seriously, though, why are people ordering this? The minute Schiller came out and basically said, "We can price it at what we want, cause we know you'll pay for it no matter what", everyone should have said F' You! I was considering ordering one, until I heard that. Their arrogance is becoming legendary, and everyone is just allowing them to do it.

Because I wanted one? Why else would anyone order anything????

As for the stock... don't you think they might be continuing to make more of them. Its not like they have to wait a week before the stock is refreshed.

What difference does it make. Either way you'll piss customers off. No way for Apple to win. Recall they did use to release to US only first and there was no end to belly aching on the forums about how Apple is jingoistic.

I'm concerned about the wording "Mid November". No date, just "Mid November". I remember them doing the same with the initial launch of the 1st Gen iPad--No set date, just "Mid April" (which turned out to be the latter part) the wait was AGONIZING.

Anyone remember that?

you can't find it anywhere in store RIGHT NOW. i've been to several targets who have never seen an iPhone 5 yet.

So....

This is why Apple does not lower prices. People will buy it reguardless of the price because it is an Apple product. I'd be interetsed to know what the sales numbers would be if the iPad Mini price was in the same range as other smaller tablets...
