i find it hilarious that the only explanation for fanboys why android phones r selling more is because they r so "cheap" etc. just because iPhones r redic over priced (lets face it - they are and i own 2) doesnt mean a <400$ Smartphone is "cheap". plus many android phones r being subsidised a lot better than apples iPhone. U can get the galaxy nexus for 1$ (550$ in retail) while the iphone is still 199$ (640$ retail)

You haven't been listening.

The category "smartphone" isn't meaningful anymore.

There are lots of people who are not interested in Android, iPhone, Windows phone, any kind of smart phone. These people just want to buy a cheap phone to make phone calls, and that's it. They aren't going to buy an iPhone or a Galaxy Nexus, because either of them is ten times too expensive if all you want is making phone calls.

But many of these people are now buying the cheapest Android phones. They buy them because the phone shop will push them, and they are cheap enough to use as a phone just for phone calls. Not as cheap as a dumb phone, but cheap enough that people don't care. And they look nicer. Given the choice of paying £60 for a phone that looks nice, makes phone calls, and does thousands of things that I don't care one bit about, and £20 for a phone that doesn't look nice, makes phone calls, and does dozens of things that I don't care about, I might as well buy the £60 phone.

And _that_ is what pushes Android market share up. Millions of people who buy a cheap Android phone, and who don't care about Android one bit.

And let's face it, any who says "let's face it" in their argument is just making a claim without any evidence or proof and hopes that the other side doesn't notice it.

This is always the same discussion IOS vs Android after some firm or analyst releases some numbers.

My iphone works and it is what I like for now, so why would I care what Android does? Especially on a Mac website

Back to basics please!

android sells them "cheaper" = more money from quantity
apple sells them more expensive = make more money from each device

= everyones happy with their different approach

just as mac r more expensive than pc but both make enough

Give up the use of the term 'Fanboys' because it lessens your argument.
U sound like u r a teenager when u rite like this. Please show more class.
U no what i mean

least important but maybe you would like to know. The $ sign goes in front of the number. Like this $50

Well, considering that you probably use an iPhone which can be jailbroken(!) just by VISITING(!) a website, you should probably not throw stones while you're sitting in a glasshouse... But like most Apple customers, you are oblivious to the fact that you're only living in an illusion of safety and prefer to blindly believe in Apple's marketing tam tam.

I rather use a platform that gives me the freedom of choice with all the possible dangers that are nothing but the price of freedom than live in Apple's censored walled garden where I can only suck up what their upper management drops from their table.

Oooh you are such a rebel. I bet you don't drink Starbucks either.

iPhone 3GS and 4 are at least upper midrange and high end devices.

This is somewhere in the low end:

http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_optimus_me_p350-3735.php

And this is today's mid range:

http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_optimus_net-4043.php

3GS has a cortex A8 core, it's a different world. It would fit in the upper mid range of phones, while the iphone 4 is a high end device, with only dual core models above it.

First of all there isn't anything high end about the 3GS anymore. It's a low to midrange phone at this point. They give them away for free. There is nothing upper mid to high range about that. The iPhone 4 is $99 now. I guess you could call that midrange.

Just because it's an iPhone doesn't mean it's a high end phone. I can find plenty of Android phones that are just as "high end" as an iPhone. I'd put my Droid RAZR up against any iPhone if we want to talk about high end phones.

If that's what you think, yes.

My comment was actually aimed at yours

it was you who said this:
"As opposed the the wealthy, intelligent, high class iPhone users?"

The original poster only suggested that more expensive phones would be more prominent in cities where there were people who had more money to spend on them.

You were the one who added all the righteous spin to it.

Is it classist to point out that there are more BMW dealers in Boston than Cleveland?

With this business model you have a iphone that fits everyone and sales are consistent throughout the year. Anyone else have a better idea?

My advice to you is don't even bother applying to work at Apple. You don't seem to get it at all.

Please, next time link a site that knows at least a little thing about viruses.

Malware is not the same than viruses.

Android doesn't have viruses, OS X doesn't have viruses. Both of them have malware. And they can't spread and they can't be installed without the user intervention

Please post link to information on iPhone Malware. We need to know.

wow smartass alert. $50 is just as idiotic as dates like 12-24-2011

You might also supply a link or two to support your claim as to how they are being used without a data plan, and where you got the data to prove you're claim that they're not being used as smartphones.
My company gives out some Android phone, I forget which model, they keep changing it. Almost to a person, these people do NOT use the data in any meaningful way. They often don't even use email, which presumably is the reason they get the phone in the first place. This is not about Android, just the way average people fail to use their phones.
I just think google is getting worried about android as it is. If they start favoring Motorola devices the oems will be pissed off. Unlike paying Firefox 300 million for search access their current hold on the mobile market is more precarious. I just dont see google sustaining android development like they are. If someone else besides apple or Microsoft made inroads they would be happy to bow out and just buy search and ad access.
They license Android for basically nothing. The licensing process doesn't seem to take much effort, this is really a non-issue. Apparently.
If that's what you think, yes.
That would be stupid to be embarrassed by such a thing. Don't be silly.
Please, point where I have said iPhone.

But as you ask, there were a pair of apps in the App Store that had to be pulled from Apple because they were spyware. Only a pair
There was also an exploit of some sort (I forget which type) with jailbroken SSH users since so many were stupid enough not to change the password.

In my opinion droid razr is junk, nowhere near the quailty of a 3gs, much less a 4 or 4s.

Have you used one or even handled one? Build quality is outstanding and it is actually built to last with an all metal frame, kevlar back and gorilla glass screen. Compare that to the plastic and glass iPhone 3GS and almost all glass iPhone 4 and 4S.

The iPhone is fine if you want to stare at a little 3.5" display all day long, but I prefer having a larger display. Also since I am on Verizon I enjoy having access to fast 4G LTE data and being able to surf and talk at the same time when I am in a 4G area. Going with a Verizon iPhone 4S right now would be a big step backwards and AT&T reception is garbage in my area.

thats the mistake every company makes when they r on top of their game. hey ppl buy it anyway so lets keep it as it is. but once someone comes up with a brand new "THE" thing they r like crap maybe we should have kept innovating instead of milking what we currently have. just look at blackberry or even myspace.

same reason why competition is good. do u think apple would have bothered with "multitasking" or improved notifications if people wouldnt have seen it somewhere else and were like OMG we need sth like that. but thats another story sooo

And I would say the iPhone 4S is a much improved phone over the original iPhone from 2007... and every other iPhone since then. Apple tends to compete with themselves... rather than all the "other guys"

We've seen what happened to other companies who push out phone after phone. They're the ones who should have focused on making one good phone rather then 3 or 4 crappy ones in a year. Razr vs Bionic... Droid 3 vs Droid 4... are all those models really necessary?

Not sure it will slow down iOS, but the Windows7 phones are better than android.

once more people start getting them, I could see them gaining some market share.

Because MSFT is the only company with a coherent OS strategy for the future. Win8. Not only is it cutting edge and sleek (unlike Win7, MacOS/iOS & Android) but more important, it is the "One OS to rule them all" startegy, Desktop - Tablet - Phone, that will dominate the market. Worlwide and in the US (heck, even Vista outsold everything else out there).

Watch AAPL following MSFT's lead and merging MacOS and iOS next year.

Also, going by the fast pace GOOG is moving, I believe they will introduce a full blown "Android" desktop OS next year.

OS marketshare 2016 (by company, desktop & mobile combined, all versions):

MSFT: 65%
GOOG: 20%
AAPL: 15%

EDIT: why throwing everything in one basket? Because there are no clear lines anymore in terms of product category and capabilities; Phones have screen sizes of small tablets, tablets have phone call capabilities, Ultra Notebooks are as light and portable as tablets, Phones running office software etc. Everything is a blur. The battle of the future is about Eco Systems: Microsoft/Windows vs Apple/iOSMAC (or whatever they will call it) vs Googles/Android.

Why would anyone want to lol? It is reported that APPL is not paying for basic benefits such as health insurance for many of it's US employees. Very sad, considering that this company is swimming in cash.
