Despite these claims, it seems very unlikely that iPhones are already being delivered to AT&T stores, as Apple's security precautions to prevent premature release of the iPhone appears to be at an all time high.

How is being delivered one day before release considered early?? You must have more faith in fedex than I do.

So even if you want 2 because you're doing a family plan, AT&T will still only sell you 1? What then, are you supposed to buy your second through Apple? Sounds silly to me ...

There's been word about FedEx holding shipments until day of and what not. Also, you don't think AT&T employees are going to be opening up iPhones and testing them out? :)

Point still valid tho. Surely? There is no way they'll [Staff] be able to process all those iPhones as well as everything else that is to be expected of them.

Nah. I fully expect apple just to dump them all with a few hours to spare on the poor employees..

although since they are spending the night.

Super Secret Fed Dex Night drop?;)

Edit: More so for a friday drop, 500 iphones prob. takes up the same space as 15 Mac Pro boxes and I am sure they have gotten those types of shipments before on a single day.

Thing is, what about that iPhone AT&T store locator? It supposedly tells me which AT&T (Cingular) stores will sell me an iPhone. Funny that most of the stores in my area aren't listed when I type in my zip code. The two biggest stores in my area appear to be left off the iPhone sales list.

I think a lot stores in some areas are not corporate stores, but kiosk or dealer stores which they indicated wouldn't be getting iphone on day one. Just like Best Buy, Circuity city won't get their day one. They will be placing thier orders on Friday and will have to wait for them to arrive before they can't start selling.

My math class is in the same building as our "Technology Products Center" - they won't know student pricing until tomorrow the 29th.

The 4GB looks to be a possible future Collector's Item - pick one up and a leave it deactivated - watch it's value grow...

Also, my order of FCS2 last month is lagging - they must've pulled the FCS2 order fulfillment team off that so they could be re-tasked to to iPhone shipments.

Just spoke to my Apple Store (Richmond, VA) and was told lines can start forming at 9 am when the mall opens and that they didn't even have them in yet with no indication about how many they might get. She also reitereated the obvious, closed from 2-6 and open til midnight....

Same as above for the North Point Mall in Alpharetta, GA.

LOL, they will be opening them up even if they show up at 5:58.

AT&T kiosk store clueless

My closest store is an AT&T kiosk at a mall (company owned, listed as having the iPhone on AT&T's site). I stopped in today. About all they knew is they'd have the iPhone for sale at 6pm. They don't have them yet. Don't know how many they'll get.

They didn't know anything about the online registration - they thought they'd be signing people up the same way they do for all other phones. Also, they said they couldn't do the credit check now (which is contrary to other reports, of people having already done so). I'm a bit concerned the heavy demand could slow that part of the process tomorrow night so wanted it done early, but whatever.

I didn't ask but I'm very curious how they're going to "close for training" before 6pm, as they're a mall kiosk...

20. Yes, 20.

Our local AT&T store here in 97330 zip code just told me they will have 20. 10 of each flavor. sheesh. "We'll have more after 1 week."

I just went by and visited a "friend" at my local at&t corp. store and he confirmed phones were delivered today (he has seen the box but unable to open one) and they got 60 units (40 8gb, 20 4gb). They expect to have about 10 people in line by noon. I will be one of them!

Sounds like a store that has an unauthorized waiting list - going to claim they only have 20 unless you know the secret code...

Officially? Only if they plan on buying that one... From that Training PDF:

"Customers who purchase iPhone will leave the store with a sealed box. The box is not to be opened in-store."

"DO NOT open up boxes for a customer to view the device, as the device is considered “used” once the box has been opened."

Now, that's the "official" stance... Whether or not they adhere to that is another story... But I sure as hell don't want to buy one in an already opened box.

Inventory

Seems like in that interview with Jobs and the AT&T Head Honcho they were saying that they have about 3 million produced, but that about 1 million will be available for opening day... After that they want devices available...

Without going back to it (sorry, I've been bouncing around in all kinds of threads tonight and I'm tired of searching:eek: ), that sounds about right.

I really am curious to know how many they will sell over the weekend. It seems like this could go the same way Sony's PS3 went. Real fast, then not so fast, then can find them everywhere.

I realy think it will sell out quickly.

Here in Australia its on nearly all the news bulletins, if us 'cool' Aussies are getting hyped by it I can't imagine what it's like in the place where you lucky people can actually buy one in a few hours.

I asked my local AT&T store how many they had. They said if I got there now I would be fine with 3 people in line. I asked if I was the 55th person in line and he said I would be cutting it close but probably be ok.....
