All this hate and political banter makes me so grateful for Hamilton, the electoral college and the overwhelming majority of the people across the 50 states that actually voted.
Does anyone knowledgeable know why this could not be implemented on android phone too?
I bet it'll work on Android without a carrier update, only iPhones lock out bands on a per-carrier basis...
You must not have AT&T Fiber. I’ve had it for over two years now and it’s fantastic. Not a single outage in over two years and I routinely have >900 Mbps up and down. All for $70/month. Can’t beat it, in my opinion. Of course, the footprint of AT&T Fiber is much, much smaller than AT&T’s much slower service. As for the $20/month service AT&T offers, that is garbage.
MOD NOTE
Thread open. That was fun.
Please keep it on topic and with the less of insults moving forward.
You are assuming many things in your statement and overall it's wrong. Yes, the first few days after the hit truck drivers couldn't get to the containers because they were stuck where they live and couldn't get road access, but since the first week distribution mechanism have been working so it's not about truck drivers. Why do I know, I live here in PR. The main issue w everything relating to aid has been burocracy BS from both FEMA and local gov and the time they took and still take to action. The government did not really fail, It was the truck drivers.

Relief workers haven't been able to distribute the goods, in part because only about 20% of Puerto Rico's truck drivers have reported back to work since Hurricane Maria swept through, according to a representative for Puerto Rican Gov. Ricardo Rosselló.
That's why the mayor was standing in front a mountain of pallets of supplies the government took in and lying.
It should be implemented as well but seems the update mechanism is not as simple/automatic so first it's the iPhones I guess to test out.Does anyone knowledgeable know why this could not be implemented on android phone too?
Can you ask the location where FEMA has not been?I went to church yesterday. We had some doctors in Puerto Rico, they went there to assist. They say the situation is terrible. They were supposed to come back yesterday but the plane was filled with people injured (a big plane) and they had to stay. The emergency power plants of the airport stopped working yesterday too. Those plants are meant to work for a few days or a few weeks. The airport has no power and they were left in the dark. They say FEMA has not being around that area. They are the only doctors to arrive. They do not know what they are going to do or when they are coming back. No power, no communications...

Sad to see this turn into a political fight. For those against helping Puerto Rico, what is your other choice, an independent Puerto Rico? As long as Puerto Rico is a US territory the US has a responsibility to it and its citizens, regardless of mayors or governors. To have a president who only seems to be willing to help states that voted for him is a disgrace. Good to see that private citizens are stepping up to help when the administration is refusing to do for racial, cultural or whatever grudge the president has.
Don't forget Google, without Project Loon still no service.Excellent job Apple and ATT. Good on ya. Now the moderators have a bit of work to do.
Yeah it is crazy. I have a cousin down there. It’s practically been reduced to a third world country. Basically no cell service, no internet, no power, can’t even use a credit card. We have stayed on the Anasco beach before and I guess that is pretty much devastated.I went to church yesterday. We had some doctors in Puerto Rico, they went there to assist. I was lucky to be able to get my mother out a few weeks ago. The situation is dire down there and our President doesn't give a frak.
Damn the luck of having a knucklehead-frak-the-poor-Republican in the White House every time disaster strikes.
Katrina was the same damn thing.

There's nothing wrong with the Electoral College.
It's the voters and their current choice that I'm disappointed in.
After moving to the CONUS from PR 25 years ago, and serving in the military for 15 of those, it's the first time EVER that I've ever been embarrassed to be an American citizen, and have an exit strategy ready should things turn for the worse.
I applaud Apple and ATT's effort here.
I also wish Apple would activate the FM chips in the Iphone 6s and lower. Although many radio stations are still powerless, there are a few still operating with power and/or generators.
Receiving news in a crisis is important too. I doubt many news sources will be streaming much info.
It could be. It’s probaly easier on iPhones because many models are “international” even if they’re not labeled as such. Most Android phones are probably also using hardware built for lots of markets... but you need a FIRMWARE update to baseband to reset limitations of FCC rules. So it has to be done per carrier+phone model. With 75 jillion Android models that may or may not support it AT&T probably went for low-hanging devices first, especially if Apple in the US is willing to help.Does anyone knowledgeable know why this could not be implemented on android phone too?

Not me, i’m still proud to be an American.

The government isn't responsible for private carrier networks. Thank goodness.Private companies co-operating to benefit people where the Government has failed.
