NorCal could use project loon too. Much of the infrastructure near the fires has fallen or burned.
Not just near the fires... I'm 15 miles out of SF and struggle to get 1 bar at home and many places on AT&T.

Hang on. How come this is in PRSI? How come it was locked? I can’t believe people were fighting in here, Christ above! A country has been devastated and they need all the help they can get. Why haven’t FEMA been there yet?

I wonder if it’s the usual folk. Let’s take a look…

Private companies co-operating to benefit people where the Government has failed.

'Evil Capitalism' at work again.
I can’t tell if you’re being serious or not, but since people under a capitalism government have died due to starvation or unable to afford medical care then yeah. It’s pretty evil with spots of goodness like this :). Very interesting that the tech has been in since the 5c, I was expecting only new phones once I read the opening to the article. Wonder why it hasn’t been enabled?

Since we’re in PRSI; the handling of this has been dreadful. Whoever they are the president of PR should be sacked immediately.

Does AT&T offer a new version of the MicroCell that supports 4G/LTE? If so I would recommend getting one of those, or use WiFi calling? I have an old AT&T MicroCell if you are interested, I have zero use for it.

Am I the only one who completely forgot that the iPhone 5c every existed? What a stupid device.
My two teenage daughters loved their 5Cs that they used for over 2 years. I recently offered to get them new iPhones - anything up to an iPhone 7 or 7+. They both chose the iPhone SE because they like the smaller form factor.

For clarification... "The government" hasn't failed. The current administration has. Just ask anyone who (like me) has received successful and speedy FEMA assistance in Florida. "the government" did a fine job here. even after widespread outages and flooding from hurricanes

It is directly related to the way the adminstration views it's obligation to Puerto Rico. Which in this case is an embarrassment.

The PR government ran a debt fueled welfare state for decades where they literally burned barrels of crude oil to produce electricity. The PR government has been an absolute train wreck for decades.

The US government has less responsibility to PR as it would to a state, because PR isn't a state.

Ok.. so then all of us here are second class US citizens? What if a a US citizen (you presumably) were vacationing abroad, and all of a sudden a political or natural crisis breaks out that endangers your life? Would you expect the US govt to swiftly respond for your safety, or just because you are in another territory then "oh well"? I believe you'd want and expect the US govt to bring in the full cavalry to save your life, regardless of where you are on the globe.

Can AT&T do something to improve service in the USA? There's no LTE in my area but 4G worked well enough until recently. It's been really bad.

Puerto Rico is a US Territory, so there is only a Governor.

The President of Puerto Rico is Donald Trump, despite not being able to vote for the Presidency.

However, I agree with you that he should be sacked immediately.

How are they listening to the news with no electricity and no cellular service? I swear you people just make this stuff up out of thin air.
Yeah because all over Puerto Rico has no power at all. Because the only source of power they have is their electric company provider. The governor keeps on tweeting to push his own agenda. Maybe you’re the one making stuff up to make yourself feel good. Where did you get your information from?

Why does Apple do this?

It's hard to know, but I imagine there are two reasons:

1. Early on, Apple banned iPhone users from using 4G on some networks. There were probably business considerations in locking 4G bands out. I doubt these still exist, if they ever did.
2. There are a LOT of LTE bands, locking out or de-prioritising scanning on certain bands could improve LTE acquisition speed.
