Go Apple, Go!

Man, I'm am so glad I still have Apple stock. I hope it splits again in a year. I'd be able to buy a dual 2.7 by then, or whatever is the top of the line. Oh, and I use iTunes as a verb. "I'm going to iTunes a song real quick." iTunes: finding, buying, playing, watching a song.

I like it.

Google and Apple share similar business philosophies.

Eh, not really.

Google: open everything up so everyone can share the knowledge and benefit

Apple: we invented it. it's ours. you can't have it. wait...you have something we want. now that's ours too. and you can't have it.

Unless you got an oscilloscope plug-in, you can't watch your songs. ;)

I would like it if you could type in lyrics and google would find the song and give it to you though iTunes
I want something that can do an automated "name that tune" sort of thing.

Has anyone thought about where this could go... especially considering this new Google Video idea?

Hmmmmm....

How bout that for a coup? Think about it.

Starts maikng sense with that remote patent, huh?

I like the Google Video idea...After (if and when) the Ipod Video is released, Google Video could have a button to add the video to your iPod Video...

According to TheStreet.com, Apple and Google may be planning a partnership that would involve Google offering iTunes through their site:

There's "speculation of an iTunes launch," says Paul Foster, an options strategist at Theflyonthewall.com. "Google is going to offer iTunes somehow on their platform," according to the rumor, he says.

The combination would pair the leading search engine with the leading online music store.

Very cool and useful idea. Personally, I can't stand navigating the iTunes music store, so I'd much rather get a direct link to an artist or album through a google search.

It'd be cool to have a "Music" tab like they do for images. I wonder how they would handle the links? I guess it could forward you to iTunes, but what if the user doesn't have the software? Maybe they'll duplicate the entire store. I bet sales would sky-rocket.

I wonder how this would work and I speculate how Google would integrate iTunes into their offering.

Perhaps Google would offer iTunes through something similar to their Adsense program. That would allow Apple to build a presence on numerous websites. Google would then get a referral from Apple for each song that leads to a sale.

That's just me speculating. It will be interesting to see what happens with this potential partnership

Sounds like a can't miss deal for both sides. Google gets more traffic (if that's even possible) and Apple sells more songs and gets greater brand recognition.

Hopefully...

...Google won't become the next Microsoft. I realize they are (mostly) platform agnostic but history has shown fairly consistently that when one entity controls almost everything in a given arena, the end-users tend to be on the short end of the stick.

Sounds like a great match to me. iTMS really needs the "next thing" even after pod-casting to slam the door on everyone else. I'd like to see this work!

Strong partnership ahead?

It's a great match indeed...Apple needs to establish some strong partnerships with key players in the market (notwithstanding Sony's resistance), and Google retains three main factors that are attractive to Apple: innovation, "coolness" and, at the same time, market domination in its area.

iTunes is already the undisputed online music service, and Google the undisputed search engine; Microsoft has lost a long time ago in both fronts, so an agreement between both is more than welcome...we'll see..!

This is excellent. It puts Google's excellent search technology into iTMS, gives Google more traffic (potentially much more) and it makes sure Google won't create any competition for iTMS.

EDIT: Also, I'm betting whenever someone googles "Napster" or "Buy music online" iTMS adsense ads will abound on the page.

From a development standpoint this seems very easy. I could probably write it myself-- and if there was an open API exchange between Apple and Google to remove the guesswork for URL formatting, then it would be easy.

Google would probably offer a web based search engine for iTMS with some bells and whistles. Seems like an obvious feature. Not sure why they haven't already done it.

I just think that slowly but surely Apple is taking over the world - and I'm enjoying the ride!
