oh man, all those supporters who advocate for opening up iOS to other AI systems are suddenly against it because ELON BAD huh?

clearly not thinking objectively.
Objectively, the Musk Car doesn’t support Apple CarPlay. Why should Apple support MuskAI?

We could also discuss why supporting anything Musk is, subjectively, not advisable.

Must have missed the article or two below about it coming to their car soon. Also Teslas are a small car brand where anti-trust isnt a thing.

You’re not being forced to use Apple Intelligence, that’s why.
This entire article and entire lawsuit is about Apple Intelligence being locked together with ChatGPT, so USING THE CONTEXT OF THIS ENTIRE CONVERSATION. I am FORCED to use ChatGPT.

Great lawsuit. Grok is superior in nearly every regard to chatGPT yet Apple forces me to use ChatGPT.
Being locked into a compeitors AI is an anti-trust problem

I think you don't mind the anti-trust issue as long as Apple chose Grok as it is superior than OpenAI. I don't think Musk would have also refused if Apple offered to integrate Grok into iOS. Then roles are reversed and OpenAI would be suing both Apple and xAI.
The solution is an API that allows deep integration of any AI app into iOS. Problem solved.

I never said Apple should support Grok. It's their OS, it's their App Store, they should decide what's right.

I'm pointing out the contradiction of those who would change their stance based on how they feel about certain people rather than basing it out of principle

I've heard all of that and made my point clear on them on this forum already.

Exactly. There is no reason for Apple to pick any particular company. Just add an API and let any app hook into it that the end user wants. They could do the same with Safari search engines, instead just letting us pick from a small list.

I’ll personally stick to having no AI on my phone.

Apple and OpenAI were not able to get a lawsuit filed by Elon Musk's xAI startup dismissed, reports Bloomberg. Texas District Judge Mark Pittman said today that Apple and OpenAI will need to continue on with the lawsuit and submit filings arguing their case.

xAI sued Apple and OpenAI in August 2025, accusing the two companies of conspiring to dominate the AI market. The lawsuit came after Musk complained that his apps X and Grok had not been featured in the App Store's "Must Have" apps section.

The lawsuit claimed that Apple was "blindsided by major innovations in AI," leading it to team up with OpenAI in a "desperate bid to protect its smartphone monopoly." It referenced Siri's ChatGPT integration, because Apple has not established deals with other companies for Siri integration. xAI said that if iPhone users want to access a generative AI chatbot, "they have no choice but to use ChatGPT, even if they would prefer to use more innovative and imaginative products like xAI's Grok."

iPhone users can, of course, download any chatbot app from the App Store, but xAI said that apps do not have the same "functionality, usability, and integration" as ChatGPT does with ‌Siri‌. The lawsuit also accused Apple of "deprioritizing" the apps of competing generative AI chatbots, and depriving Grok of data from billions of iPhone users because Grok isn't integrated with Siri like ChatGPT. The lawsuit claims that xAI "sought an integration" with Apple Intelligence, and was denied.

In a filing earlier this month, Apple and OpenAI both argued that the lawsuit is flawed because there is no exclusivity deal that prevents Apple from integrating other chatbots into Siri.

xAI has asked the court to put a stop to Apple and OpenAI's "anticompetitive scheme," and help it "recover billions in damages."

Thus far I have been somewhat underwhelmed by all of the LLM’s that I’ve tried. LLM’s seem good at basic information but all of them are bound to get worse and not better, just like Google Search and Google’s AI Search Results have gotten worse and not better. Personally I think it would be nice to be able to choose whatever LLM you wanted to use and integrate that within iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. The issue is, not all LLM Developers are going to be willing to be in the dark about what you search for, when you use LLMs, and where you are when you use them. That being the case, the number of LLM Developers who will be willing to work within Apple’s terms is probably pretty small.

Could this lawsuit force Apple to do it? I certainly hope so it could liberate Apple from pursuing this ever failing AI endeavour and focus on what they do best good hardware and software.

If you look strictly at the timing, OpenAI and Apple announced their partnership in June 2024. The ChatGPT app was released a year earlier, while the similar Grok app for iOS wasn't released until December 2024 along with free access. So at the time of the announcement, one vendor had a product ready to go while the other didn't. Integration with ChatGPT didn't get released until December 2024. Does anyone think xAI would've been ready to go on day 1?

Musk has a massive retainer that he likes to use in the Musk-friendly Texas courts, so he's going to use it. This is a nothingburger.

Should be an open choice and not locked to OpenAI.

If I decide to use a local server running on solar power with an abliterated model of my choice, or Claude, or Grok, or anything... I should be able to enter those settings into my phone and they be obeyed. Options are always good, vendor lock in is not what I desire.

So, although I dislike Musk intensely, I hope he wins and causes a bit of freedom of choice here for the user. And that this freedom is not just a drop down of his AI or Altman's AI, but includes a definable api endpoint for those who want to use their systems.

Ridiculous. Tesla (despite dropping sales recently) are to EVs what the iPhone is to smartphones. They dominate their particular market segment.

If you want to claim the iPhone is a monopoly in order to force antitrust penalties on Apple then you must also concede Tesla is a monopoly.

Not even close to being the same:

  • This is currently just a rumor.
  • Apple never sued Tesla to force them to add CarPlay to their vehicles.
  • If Tesla does add CarPlay it will be THEIR choice, not the result of a court decision from a lawsuit.
  • Using the same logic, Google should now sue Tesla for “partnering” with Apple to add CarPlay while excluding Android Auto.
