You guys are talking like the Uighurs are native to Xinjiang. They are not. It is old Tocharian territory, a vast desert that Tibetans, Han Chinese and Gökturks (Uighurs) found inhospitable. The Tocharians (a Indo-European tribe) were eventually rounded up by the Turks, and their genome still lives on among the Uighurs (red and blonde hair, blue eyes), but they were essentially planted in Xinjiang as a fortification force against the Tibetan empire. This was a very long time ago, but it shaped the contemporary conditions.
Yeah, totally justify what China does there.

So browser makers pick on some two-bit dictatorship, but actively works on behalf for the biggest police state in the world and their Great Firewall to oppress their populace? It's like Hong Kong all over again...

China = bad, USA = good. Doing the right thing = bad, because it doesn't target the right bad guys.

I don't think I really need to describe the difference between the US' policing of online activity than that of China.

USA (or any western democracy for hat matter) - police will rock up at your door if you're a paedo doing nasty stuff online or you're plotting an act of terrorism. If they have enough evidence to charge you, you'll be tried in an open court and the media will be allowed to say whatever they like about it (often it will disagree with such decisions and take the side if somebody in such circumstances). Protests are fine too, even if you're an absolute nutcase promoting a radical line of thinking/skepticism that's malicious and makes absolutely no sense.

China - you'll be disappeared if you criticise the government, say anything that's pro-HK/Taiwan/democracy...etc. If you're a muslim you'll be sent off to a concentration camp. If you organise a protest, they'll send the cops around to disappear you. They'll keep tab of literally all of your purchases and conversations are monitored for such things in WeChat. Get caught? There's no open courts and no free media reporting of what's going on. It's often taken one step further... you'll be disappeared and silenced if you say anything other than 'the CCP is the best thing ever'.

Since somebody will invariably raise it... yes... there are mixed opinions on what is 'moral'. For example with Chelsea Manning did something that broke publicly available US laws. She was convicted and many disagreed that this was fair (although she clearly broke the law). A US president later stepped in and pardoned her, pursuant to the dominant public opinion of the day. I wish to emphasised that the democratic west ENCOURAGES such debate. The CCP does not. You will get in a lot of trouble if you question whether they are right or fair. Whereas eeerm... well do a web search for any disputed decision in the west. Heck, do a search for pro-CCP propaganda. It is not illegal or banned in the west...

The US is tapping Frau Merkel's phone. China isn't.

The US is using its "Five Eyes" network to spy on supposed allies to get the upper hand in business deals (Echelon). China isn't.

The US is using the Swift payment system as a tool that can be wielded against any imagined or real enemy, country or individual, business or politician (like the democratically elected leader of Hong Kong). China isn't.

The US has had altogether sixteen (16) years of peace. The rest of the time, it has been involved in countless wars, toppled governments, infiltrated elections (like in Italy and other Western European countries), doing its dirty geopolitical deeds and coerced the world to play along its rules (that it doesn't follow itself). China has done nothing like that.

The US has bent the rules by putting muslims in concentration camps in Guantanamo Bay, in Iraq, in Afghanistan and so forth, calling them "illegal combattants" outside the scope of the Geneva convention, yet think they can put finger on China for dealing with radical islamism within its own borders. China has done nothing like that, but has been attacking the root causes of inalienation and poverty, giving said Uighur muslims (as opposed to other muslims) education and vocational training to overcome difficulties and integrate in society, in instances where needed.

There is no greater threat to world peace than the US, whereas Chinas doesn't pose a threat to anyone but those who challenge its righful territorial claims. The US has several hundreds of military bases all over the world, China has altogether three (3).

Thank you for saving us in WWII (after the Russians finished off Hitler), but now we've simply had it. Get the f out of my country and my Union, and don't you ever come back. Your time is up, and we are sick and tired of you seeking enemies all the time to uphold your hegemony throughout the world.

China is no threat to you, and certainly not to us. You are the threat.

They'll do the same with China right?
That's hilarious!
You can only point your finger on someone weaker (than you)

...Which shows your own weakness I guess. (and hypocrisy)

I dont know I just came up with this. I bet there are some (better) sayings like this. Let me know
I'm confused. Are you talking about "The Finger of Blame" or "The Finger of EffOff?" ;)
Unfortunately not. But I can’t blame Cook, he would be fired if he pissed off China and quickly replaced with somebody who is willing to follow every single one of China’s demands.
But wait, Cook is ALREADY willing to follow China's demands. So tell us again why you can't blame him?

He should be fired then. This is the main reason I could not vote for Chinese corrupted Joe Biden. He's basically a Chinese asset.
Yes he is.

Chinese vs Putin asset, pick your poison.
Putin is nothing, simply a non-issue. This from my friends who emigrated from Russia to the US. They came here because they had land and other property stolen from them by their government. After they bailed out their government. So they said, and they haven't lied to me about anything as far as I can tell.

Why is it up to the tech industry to bring China down? Why doesn’t the US government have the balls to restrict all business with Chinese companies? That would have a major impact.

Ooh wait...
Hey, the NBA and NFL have sold their souls to China. Why not the .govs too?
And what would that solve? Absolutely nothing because the next guy will not hesitate to do what the CCP wants.
Are you saying that we should never do the right thing because the next guy will do evil?
...They won't find any mass graves.
No, they won't; but that's not because they didn't have mass-deaths. Remember, in China they bury people on the sides of mountains, but only if the family can pay for that. Everybody else gets cremated. Even the ones buried on the sides of mountains get pulled out after 6 years and get cremated. So EVEN IF there are bodies (and why would there be for people who died without money?), the proof will all be gone 6 years from now anyhow.

Just because you don't believe communism can do great evil, that doesn't mean that it's not doing great evil. 🤔
...China cut short the pain, and they are now enjoying life as before, while you are dragging it out forever.
Just because the politburo says all is well, that doesn't mean that all is well.
(a) that’s not a thing
(b) what exactly is your beef with making mass surveillance more difficult for the totalitarian government of Kazakstan? Do you support totalitarian governments’ surveillance of their citizens?
I think he was just trying to spellcheck the word "signaling" as "signalling".

You must have been asleep for a long time then. There are many stories about US police forces rolling up to somebody's door with false allegations; all with the knowledge and support of various District Attorneys.

Evidence is manufactured all the time, to the point that anybody can accuse you of pretty much anything, and if they "need to", the police probably can figure out how to put naughty pictures or terrorism plans on your hard drive or in your home or car.

How many times have you seen somebody on the TV show "Cops" say, "That's not mine, I have no idea how it got in my car/pocket/living room/nose/fill-in-the-blank!"? And how many times did you believe them?

Maybe worse than the cops is the IRS. Now that right there is evil incarnate! The IRS has even violated court orders to shut down businesses without proof of wrongdoing.

All of this is true, of course. But it can happen in the USA too. If you don't believe me, just see what happens to people who oppose the new regime. On anything. They won't tolerate it. And why should they? After all, they just proved that they CAN steal an election. So to them, the sky is the limit.
...I wish to emphasised that the democratic west ENCOURAGES such debate...
That was the "old" west. Look at all the people who got beat up just because they wore a Trump hat, or a MAGA hat. Debate? Oh, that's SOME debate. Look at all the people who's businesses got burned up in the riots in various cities. Did you HEAR some of the members of Congress saying what they want to do to people who disagree with them? That's something, for sure, but "debate", it sure ain't.

No, what is now being "encouraged" is "agree with me or be silent".

Did a little looking here to see who trusts the China root CA and amusingly the one who does not out of the box is MS since win 8. Ubuntu and RH do by default, tho Debian does not. Chrome, opera and FF do. There are other roots in China but I’d bet the gov’t has hooks in em.
In china’s defense, tho, they are more about information suppression than privacy invasion. Still not good but not quite as bad. 😝

Mr Azamat Bagatov also must have some involvement.
Probably he came up with the first idea of eavesdropping by a government-issued certificate, which quickly failed hence why he got executed and converted into a chair 😅

Chinese skin dogs alive and then eat them.

China does not have sewage lines connected to public toilets, just holes in the ground surrounded with thousands of flies.

Homelessness in the USA - especially California - disgusts me, but those Americans are living better than millions of Chinese who their government there claims have been lifted out of poverty.

they just capture your encrypted packets and bruteforce them anyway.

it's like nobody remembers PRISM in this thread
They can’t decrypt https encrypted packages at a reasonable cost. A root certificate on your device under control of the attacker means decryption is exactly as expensive for them as it is for you, and it makes it possible to forge information in both directions in real time.

China is *far* from perfect, has a myriad of problems, but you *clearly* have not been to China, it is *nothing* like you describe. At all.

China has tons of wealth, tons of people living quite well, a middle class with all the regular amenities any developed country enjoys. They also have shanty towns, villages, and backwaters like the US, Brazil, and other countries have, too.

Get your facts straight.

It will forever be the irony of history how the Western world made the rise of China possible knowing well in advance what they were headed for. And the orange man didn’t reverse that course either, outside of silly tariff wars, just like no other US government prior.
And who do you think made the rise of Hitler possible? I am wondering why hollywood movies still to this day portray nazis as intelligent people in cool uniforms? Now this is the irony.

Now I would say something to you but I don't want to get perma-banned from the forums 🤬

Macrumors, how do you NOT remove this post?! That is NOT some opinion or freedom of speech thing, this is blatant propaganda and a huge insult to humanity when there is every evidence that 1.5 million Uighurs are in concentration camps and they are close to being erased from history!?!

China is not a communist country anymore. It is Han-Chinese based fascist dictatorship with no regards to human life whatsoever. Worst thing is, it is expansionist.
It will erase Cantonese culture like they're doing with Uighur, and just like it did with various other Chinese cultures now long forgotten. It is a propaganda machine to brainwash its citizens, though has the audacity to believe that same strategy will work on rest of the world. Its citizens have become nothing but products of surveillance and drones to the hive.
Its main defense strategy is ad hominem arguments pushed by countless employed internet trolls, often littered with whataboutery (example in quote) and injection of false claims in between (like millions of Uighurs "being trained" in concentration camps as claimed in the quote, while their lands are given away to Han Chinese).
Who now talks about the 30 million dead Chinese because some lunatic decided to kill all the sparrows in China? Nobody. Human life is so expendable In China, where everybody is a nobody, just like in Nazi Germany.
The real threat, however, is this person in the quote who poses to be from Germany. My grandma in Nazi concentration camps wasn't a nobody. Because of her, I am. The likes of this poster will always go down in history as losers. He is the threat.

Tell that to the millions who died under their system.. 1989 Tianamen Square ? No, they are Communist and a threat to the whole world.
