Apple has an obligation to defend their trademarks and servicemarks even in questionable cases or risk losing their protections. I don’t think they care if they lose, really, but they certainly need to ensure people are careful with coming close to their marks.
This is probably more of what this is about than anything else. An overly cautious lawyer/legal team that want an official ruling that this is not at all like the Apple logo. If they ignore it someone at some point might make a simple fruit logo that does in fact have a striking resemblemance to Apple's and may use this particular logo as supporting evidence that Apple doesn't defend its logo. Perhaps...

This is dumb honestly. I didn't see the pear and think of Apple - they aren't even in the same industry space.
Exactly. It's like when Apple Records tried to sue Apple Computer. In this case, it's worse. Apple is one of the biggest and most powerful companies in the world, and they are bullying a company that offers recipes for children to make.

It’s stuff like this and not putting chargers in boxes that made me go buy a Garmin last weekend to replace my Apple Watch 2. My original iPhone included everything including a dock which was awesome. I have wished for one ever since. I’ve bought several iPods, 10 iPhones, 2 Macs, a Time Capsule, Airport Express, the old Apple Bluetooth earpiece, an Apple Watch, and AirPods. Publicly traded companies are all about the numbers. They are about pleasing Wall Street and not the consumer. It has definitely gotten worse with Tim at the helm. Steve‘s customer centric thinking is what made apple great. I won’t be all Apple moving forward and will definitely keep my options open.

I don't think this is as ridiculous as people seem to think it is. People do get confused by stuff like this. And even the ones who don't at a conscious level are still subject to unconscious processes that relate things like these logos together.

Actually, yes it is.
As far as I understand it is not.
First, and most importantly, they need to be in the same field.
Prepear does meal planning. In what field of meal planning is Apple in where a consumer might confuse the trademark?
Next, you'd have to go after everyone of the same group. So iCarley and all that... Since they aren't...
Of more loyal fanboi's of Apple are admitting this is a bit far of a fetch.

I worked at a place that had a copy of the AT&T globe logo. Different color. VERY different field. AT&T never went after them. Ever. AT&T never lost their trademark because of this either.

Apples claim is this:
Apple claimed in its filing that Prepear's logo "consists of a minimalistic fruit design with a right-angled leaf, which readily calls to mind Apple's famous Apple Logo and creates a similar commercial impression
You're prepared to tell me that any fruit with a right-angled leaf, in any field, with any color will call to mind Apple as a commercial impression? And you think you can convince a Judge of this?
So basically Apple owns all fruit with a right angled leaf, you feel? All of it? That's a bit... far and tough.

I honestly don't think this is going to win in favor of Apple but court stuff can last FOREVER dang near so...

You would need to show a.) intent and b.) that it would happen to your average person. Not that it's possible that just one person might. Meaning you can't say "people are stupid" and then use stupid people as your baseline.

It’s not about Prepear themselves. It’s a deterrence case to prevent many companies creating fruit logos (with leaf pointing to the right side of course) because eventually logos will appear that look much closer to Apple’s.
Well they stole their Name and Apple type logo from the Beatles

It looks nothing like an Apple logo of any kind... not even resembling the outline of any fruit. Nintendo does this sort of stuff...

I'm surprised at Apple.

IANAL but doesn't part of this stem from the need to vigorously defend trademarks or they just disappear. On the outside this looks super stupid but it could be the lawyers feel its necessary.
Hey, “ “stem“ from the need”. Nice word play.

What a ****** move from the greediest company on earth. The logos look nothing alike. It’s like they just want to ruin every other company in existence.

There must some people in Apple that has wild imaginations to think that others will get confused by these two logos.
Or maybe those employees have too much time on their hands, or maybe a need to justify their high salary.

If someone showed me this logo and said it's related to something to do with computers, the first thing I'd think is "oh PEAR have got a new logo". The last thing I would think is... "oh look Apple have designed a new pear for their logo". People saying Apple are just defending this because they have to is pure apple justification nonsense. There is no viable reason for suing over this logo other than just being a bully.

Far from the greatest company on earth my friend. I have purged 90 percent of my money flowing into apple, last to go is my ipad , phone and watch. I already ditched apple one, and all other subs to them. DONE. this is beyond petty for them to go after this company for this bullcrap. Buh by apple, Hope you ROT! Any fanboy to support their move is just as bad as Apple themselves. This crap needs to stop. Their shiny junk is not worth it.

How are they “bullying” anyone? When the pear company applied for a trademark, apple filed an objection, because in their opinion allowing the trademark would dilute their own famous mark. This isn’t an issue where people would be confused about the logo, etc. Apple didn’t sue, apple didn’t demand money. They simply told the trademark office that they objected to the logo.
