Seriously though, if I ever see "Yahoo Search", or "Bing Search" on my iDevices, I'm out the door.

If for some inexplicable reason I wanted to go to Bing or Yahoo, I'd go via Google. Pretty much sums up those alternatives for the majority, I'd imagine.

Dude if you did a blind comparison, you probably wouldn't know the difference. Try for yourself. Moreover, in some ways Bing is better. For instance, Google has copied Bing's image search format. When it comes to a web search, most times I couldn't' tell the difference. Bing has come a long way.

Two of the three major competitors in the mobile hardware space both own and operate their own search engine. If Apple doesn't want to get into the search business, at least strengthening their ties with Yahoo makes good business sense to me.

so will u stop using google?

You win, I bought an S3.

My condolences.

I really doubt most people actually care what search engine they use, so long as it gets them the results they're looking for. Google's domination likely has more to do with the fact that A.) it's the most well known search engine, and B.) it's the default search engine for most browsers.

I'd like Apple to allow us to manually add search engines such as Duck Duck Go.

Let this not come about. Yahoo is such crap right now.

Yep, and as for their ****** web based spam complaints system... sorry if you dont support "abuse@yahoo.com" like you should then my spam filter simply added *@yahoo.com.
No one I know uses yahoo now so it became a "meh" if all of yahoo mail gets blocked and I can not remember the last time I went to yahoo, it will be 4-5 years ago.

Apple is going to ditch Google Search in Safari and make Yahoo Search default.

1 month later another apology letter from Tim Cook recommending users download the Google Search app.

Edit: Even using anything other than Google for the default would irritate the majority.

99% of people would never notice the difference. Google is just a verb, if it gets the same results, why worry?

I've been using Bing as my search engine on all of my devices for years now. One of the first things I do with a new device is set my search engine to Bing. I can't think of the last time I felt like using Google, actually.

Bing - it's like Google, but less evil.

Yahoo!? Yuck. The Stocks app they power often has problems fetching data from Yahoo! servers.

At least they've improved... relative to Google. My reasoning for that is that their email service has stayed the same (insecure but works fine) while Google's has gone downhill. It has issues working with iOS Mail unless one uses the Gmail app... hmmm... and it has super paranoid self-destruct security. Sad to say this, but AOL remains the best totally open/free email service if you're only using its servers in Mail and not going to the website. iCloud isn't fully open/free, and it's my favorite mail service besides private email hosting.

I tried Bing. It's pretty bad, and it somehow gave me a BSOD in Windows 7 on multiple computers. Besides, Microsoft is a demon compared to Google. I don't even understand what's so "evil" about Google besides a few mess-ups and their ripoff of iOS. Microsoft is one of the rare companies that actually harm people who choose not to buy their products (and harms those who do buy their products even more).

Let's not also forget that Microsoft copied Google almost in its entirety. They didn't just steal a product. They stole the entire company.

I've stopped using Google regularly for almost a year now. My default is Yahoo. The only Google service I normally use today is YouTube.

If you're using Yahoo!, it's kamikaze at that point.

except Yahoo is powered by Bing

Want your opinion on this system. I did 5 random searches of terms I have really searched for recently (and a porn one just to see what comes up), I picked Google every time--Bings results were really lacking. I did the test again, picking 5 selections that were recommended, and I picked Bing 3 of 5 times. I think they are skewing the results with targeted results. Plus they filtered out the ads--putting those back in, Bing loses hands down. Googles ads, to me, are out of the way (no I don't use adblock--I like charging companies by clicking on ads).

Yahoo is the worst service ever. My email has been compromised by them multiple times and I get spam requests on messenger all the time. I really hope they do NOT do this. I would be impressed if they were trying to get rid of yahoo for everything except mail. I mean the weather app is so inaccurate and basic because of yahoo.
How is the weather app the way it is because of Yahoo! Yahoo! simply provides the data for it, and even that data comes from Weather.com actually.

You've got it backwards. Bing is powered by Yahoo.
How's that again?

It's better than Hotmail at least, but I agree that it's not something anyone should use. I know a few people with Hotmail/MSN accounts, and 100% of them have been hacked.

Just because you don't use their email (or services) or don't really know anyone personally that does, doesn't really mean anything for the vast majority of other people that you don't know. As far as mail, and some other services, it's actually the number 1 provider as far as userbase goes. Granted, out of such vast numbers of users there are going to be some with issues, but the vast majority are just fine, as is the case usually with any large service provider.

Add me to the list of dissatisfied users then. I only get spam from Yahoo! addresses, and I know people whose Yahoo! accounts got hacked. What's so hard about just using AOL, iCloud, or Gmail?

Well that sucks, even their Weather widget is inaccurate and half-assed. Today it was showing 61 degrees outside but it was actually 80, and I double checked to make sure it refreshed and was in the right location.

As much as I love the iPhone, I can't even imagine stronger Yahoo ties as an advantage.
