If you "end up paying $1.3K" for a machine that doesn't meet your requirements then more fool you. If I couldn't stretch to the extra $80 I'd buy either an Air or a Pro and wouldn't piss and whinge about the new MacBook!

Erm.. I clearly have no intent to buy this Macbook because of how bad it is.
Also, apparently it starts at $1.5K in Canada.

It's ridiculous how I have to buy an adapter just to use the computer. That's why it's horrible. I don't understand why people like you seem to take personal offense.

I'm saying: This is a horrible product. You can have your opinion. But my opinion is that it's bad, very, very bad. Why? Because it's a downgrade of experience, but upgrade in price. Less battery, Less ports, Less CPU, Less Heat tolerance. Has a retina display going for it at least... Too bad I can't use my computer how I want to when I'm charging it. Forget about games.

I was expressing my outrage at how horrible this is, related to the news. This was my reaction. I wasn't pissing and whining about it as you so kindly say. Are you saying that the only reaction that is acceptable is for me to be like "Hey, this is wonderful. Good work Apple!"

You have your opinion, I have mine. So leave me alone.

It's outrageous that to haul a bunch of stuff around in your brand new Mustang GT you would have to get a trailer hitch and trailer. It won't even haul big loads! It's absurd that Ford has no regard for the customer when you can't put 7 people in it, it won't get 60mpg, and won't even fit in tiny parking spots!

My point is that if the new Macbook doesn't meet your needs, then don't buy it! They have other models that might better fit those needs. If your needs are to haul around a bunch of people along with a Bobcat, a Mustang might be a bad choice. Although if you want a fun car that will go really fast and you only ever take one passenger, that Mustang might be looking like a good choice.

I am new here but not new to Macs or Apple products. I think the new Macbook is a neat design but after watching the Keynote and reading more on it I dont think it is for me.

I almost bought an 11 inch MBA a few days ago but held off till after the Keynote. I think the MBA will serve me better because I actually do use USB ports. Sure I wish the MBA had a retina display with a smaller bezel but I can live with it since I am going to use it to write my books.

I have learned not to bash anything until I see how it does and most important if it works for me. For now I think I will go with the MBA 11 inch.

Entitlement: Having the title, right, or claim to something. So in my usage, he felt he had the "right" to decide on behalf of other people what is a good usage of their money.
Honestly... if the only point you can take away from what i said is that you don't like my usage of the word entitlement... then please stop wasting my and others time here. It contributes nothing to the conversation.

I'm sorry, are you a proponent of people having their own thoughts or not? Your posts are inconsistent.

Having their own thoughts, yep. Telling other people what they should think, nope. Very clear distinction there. Hope that clears things up for you. Have a great night (or day, if you are in a certain part of the world). :)

I expected a revival of the "MacBook" moniker for a while now. This product meets what I expected in terms of performance, style and specs. The price is a bit shocking though--but it'll come down like the retina MBP's did.

I expect within 1-2 years this will simply replace the MacBook Air line entirely. It's size is a happy medium between the two, it's already thinner and lighter and has a better display.

Betting that within that time frame we see a starting price point of $999 and no more MBA's. MBP's will likely continue to carry a variety of ports for power users. This new machine isn't for power users. It's an iPad with a keyboard and OSX. Seems ripe for that ARM chip conversion we keep hearing about.

I can fully understand that there are a lot of people that need/want more than one port. I personally have never once had more than one device plugged in at a time. I'm curious to know what percentage of the overall MBA using population falls into each category. Apple must have an idea of this, and feel it is not an issue...

On my portable computer, if it's on a desk it always has more than just the power adapter plugged in. One lonely port that is both data and power is stupid. It's just a way to sell additional dongles and splitters to people who already overpaid for the computer. This machines comparable market is in the sub $200 range. The $1000 apple tax for os x is crazy.

It looks nice (not sure about a gold laptop). However 1 port! So even with the adapter I think you can't charge and add an external device at the same time?!!!

Then don't. In your head just do the calculation that, for you, the cost is $1380 and decide if this device makes sense for you. My guess is the answer is probably 'no', and that's cool. I mean, it's a generation one device anyway, so you'd have to be pretty enthused to take that risk in the first place.

Generation 2 will probably take away the one port that's there. We'll have to buy an adapter to add a place to plug in power. Don't think so? Remember, this is Apple.... If there's a way to take away a standard feature and sell it as an add on, they'll find it.

I doubt that. The retina display, aluminum casing, backlit keyboard, touchpad, memory and onboard storage put it considerably over the sub $200 range.

So thin and light!

Looks great! Can't wait to get my hands on it!!

That's right. People have different opinions, and there's no right or wrong. It's just a product, it should be about your own thoughts whether you like it or not.

Yeah, that sucked. Looks so gorgeous though.

All irrelevant details to what it does. None of that makes it do more. It's capabilities and performance level compare to the sub $200 market.

I really don't care whether it's plastic or aluminum. Makes no difference to what the machine does or how well it does it. As for memory, etc... Still not nearing a value comparable to its price (not even close to being a value for the dollars asked). Just more overpriced, slower than last year, preobsoleted technology.

It's the crippled mini all over again, just this time with a price hike.

On another note, this Macbook further squeezes the iPad lineup. It's basically a full computer with the size and weight of an iPad. Price being the only factor making iPad competitive with it.

The heaviest iPad Air 2 (LTE model) weighs 444g while the new retina MacBook weighs 920g. So it's a full computer larger than the iPad and twice its weight. Not a direct comparison at all.

New MacBook Airs are better spec-ed than this. The new i3 and i5's in the Air's are a lot faster than the Atom Core M and its cheaper!

Portability doesn't really stack up much considering Dell and their XPS 13 which is smaller in footprint than the MacBook, only weight but then again the XPS is a lot better spec-ed then the new MacBook.

They should've at least had two USB-C ports to allow charging and use of USB 2/3 devices with an adapter.

I complain of this too much but the fanboyism is showing through really clearly here. USB Type C is still a fresh standard to the point where no accessories exist for it. Consumers won't be happy by that.

To sum up, its overpriced, underpowered and lack of essentials to the point where consumers WILL notice.

But Apple's vision is correct. This is the future, but its a little too soon to be considering it.

BTW, Since this is now more portable than the Air isn't that title now redundant? I'm predicting Apple will eventually get rid of the Air and replace it with this therefore returning to the pre-2008 lineup.

Maybe. Could it also be an answer to the Surface Pro 3? While the MB12 doesnt have a removable keyboard, its is a better keyboard, I assume its size and weight compares well, and the full OS, with no need of a tablet OS.

If I wanted a new iPad, I guess the MB12 might be an option. Nah, too big, too clumsy. Some might though

Yes the Air's days are numbered for sure now.

And I agree with Justin's post that this a great vision of the direction of laptops but too soon for many consumers to stomach.

I think we'll hear real divided opinion of this one.

I have to say though that after watching the keynote (as always happens) I come away very impressed with Apple's steps forward in innovation here and impressive engineering feats. It's a remarkable computer.

There is a comfort level with the current gen macbook airs and pros that I think people aren't ready to get rid of.

I'm surprised to see people believing that every product Apple create is made for everyone. Obviously this product is not aimed for those that need more than average processing power. There's the Macbook Pro for that.

On top of that, since this product isn't made to do much (hard and CPU-taxing) work on it, I don't see how the lack of ports is an issue.

there are some positives but overall I think it was a miss.

I'm hoping that the positives make it into the other laptops, like....fanless operation, smaller logic board, thinner/brighter display, force touch trackpad, contoured battery cells.

i don't want to see so many ports disappear. didn't Apple learn that listen with the first generation mba? smh
