This is precisely what I was thinking, so here are the possible options:

6 weeks in: Mac OS X 10.5.2
7 weeks in: MacBook Pro updates

or maybe the other way around. Just a thought, either way - it's all looking good.

Nah... it will be more like:

6 weeks in: Apple TV Take 2 update (promised on this date already)
7 weeks in: Mac OS X 10.5.2
8 weeks in: iPhone SDK
9 weeks in: MacBook Pro updates

With flash memory prices dropping, I am surprised the 16GB model does not simply replace the 8GB. Ironically, my main concern when mulling over the decision to purchase my iPhone on Feb 2 was limited capacity. Coming home, I quickly noticed that I had to restrict media placed on the phone to leave room for snapped pictures and email attachments.

On the eve of the Apple SDK, I was wondering how large new applications released later this year would be. More media juggling would be required for what may be considered essential applications (Flash maybe?).

I am still within the window for replacing my iPhone with double the capacity. Having spent this much already, I might as well fork over the remaining $100 -- as long as there is no restocking fee on top of the original purchase price.

Cool beans, I saw a 16GB iPhone soon, but not the 32GB iPod touch. I wonder if the extra memory increases it's size a little or not ? Only the US store has the updated model in it, so they must of forgot that the iPod touch is available in more places than just the iPhone locations.

I'm glad they didn't re-price the models too, at least my touch hasn't depreciated big time today. Now I just have to wait a year, or less, and a 64GB model will be out, just what I'd be after to contain my whole library... not much longer to go :)

Can't wait for the SDK announcement.

If you've opened the box and used the device, expect a restocking fee.

The problem is that the current MBP is so completely outdated that it's sick that it is still the only option Apple is offering. You are totally missing the point.

Those of us that are waiting are smart to do so.

Eh? Completely outdated? Not quite sure how you have come to this conclusion. Its fast, stylish and even runs Windows better than most PC laptops out there (if you so wish to run windows).

There is always going to be the next update around the corner - but to say that the current one is completely outdated is a little bit of a stretch.

32GB Touch, a tad pricey? It is cheaper than we pay for the 16GB here in the UK. I know, enough moaning, our economy is look pretty good compared to the US.

Just sayin' bro ;) Ooohh and tell me about it, we (well not me, I get them in the US:p) pay insane amounts of money for any Apple product here, 2100+ for a blackbook, and like 3000+ for the mid-range MBP (you can imagine the rest)iPods for like $100 more than they are worth in the US&A etc. I was saying it is a pricey device considering its $500 and has a limited amount of space (I know I know flash based super fast and modern technology) for a few hundred bucks more you can get a full-blown Mac mini.

another half-assed release from apple - 16GB for iphone, no 3G, no 3rd party apps and oh yeah, it's an extra $100

how hard would it be to take the 32GB drive out of the ipod touch and put it in your macbook air?

apple is going from innovative rule-breaker to derivative corporate slug and it's so sad

There's a small box advertising a new 16GB iPhone on the Apple UK homepage, but on the store there is still no mention of new iPhone/touch.

Nice, but still waiting for 2.0

I'm one of (the few?) who popped for a 4GB iPhone on day one, and I'm happy with it for the most part. To have more capacity would be nice, but at the time I didn't want to blow that much of a wad. Now that there's a 16GB model, I have to admit my heart jumped a second, but I can't justify to myself replacing this beauty just yet.

I'll wait until 3G. :)

Big John: They have doubled the capacity today which is pretty cool. In the coming months we will see 3G and maybe GPS. Maybe even a slightly bigger cross-over device that resembles the fabled tablet.

Don't get upset that you haven't got exactly what you want today, it will come if you are patient. THe current iPhone is bloody brilliant, way better than anything out there and I use the Edge all the time without it driving me mad.

The dude abides, man.

The MacBook Air is more important to them than a capacity upgrade to existing products.

Apple has 4 little "sub-heading" images that they could have used, and actually have up now on the main page. When I first saw on MacRumors that new ipod/iphones were out I had to look kinda hard to actually find them on Apple's page, and I *knew* they were out.

And there's now a box about the iPod touch but that isn't on the store either and an 'Apple Expert' tells me they don't know when it will be coming to the store and says he can see how it may be an inconvenience, them advertising a product that isn't available.

So glad i have an 8gig iPhone, as opposed to a 4!

See the bottom left. It's not the most prominent thing on the home page but it is there. They are still pushing the MBA.

That wasn't there when I made that post.

glad they upped the memory, but as a current iphone owner, i'll be waiting for iphone 2. wish i had the 16g, especially with apps on the horizon.

well i'm with you but since it's just a memory upgrade, that brings the question of when iphone 2 is coming. I would like to know, because this is tempting me, only because my iphone is my only ipod too. I mean it seems like 3g isn't coming as soon as we thought, otherwise i think they wouldn't have introduced this now.

LOL!!

Anyway, the bigger Apple will become, the more dissatisfied the core users will be.

The same core users that have been trying to convert everyone else.

Just let it flow and let it go ;)

That's more capacity than the 5G iPod (30GB, black) I picked up, what, a year and a half ago? But now, it's in flash...

I'm not at the point where I'm ready to get an iPod Touch or an iPhone just yet, but limited capacity has been my greatest concern about them, and it looks like it won't be an issue any more. :)

Double cheers! :)
That's where I'm at now...

499? Ugh. Why not keep the same price with better features?

I love how people think they should get more for the same price or less.... How long has the touch been out? It's not like they're adding the nerd tax ($100 gift card) like they did after the iPhone.

People whine about needing updates, then they hate they updates and complain more and claim they are still going to wait or go to windows...ohhhh nooo!!!!

People whine about the upgrades that cost money. If you had the money to blow in the first place, it wasn't that important to you. You wanted the cool gadget. You were the first one to buy one. Congrats, you were 'special' for a day/week/month. Now don't complain about the price of being cool.

Technology is something that you will NEVER win at when it comes to spending money. There is always something better around the corner. And if they give it to you, it will either be the same price or more, RARELY cheaper.

Oh and by the way people, it costs money to develop products. Do you think it just magically happens? If it's not an overhaul of a design, it's still a matter of finding the right supply channels and everything else that gets products to the shelf. But most zealots for :apple: think that the :apple:People should work for free and receive payments in gadgets.

I bought my iPod touch *because* it is a WiFi Mobile Device!

Why did he call it "WiFi Mobile Device" instead of iPod?

Silly little monkey! People want iPods not "WiFi Mobile Devices," if you try to rebrand it like that you'll kill it.

another iPod that *doesn't* have WiFi!

Cheers

Steve Ballmer was on the conference call?? :D

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there hasn't been a 500 dollar iPod ever, or at least in a long while. It's a bit much to pay for an mp3 player and a browser that works at Starbucs and while your sitting on the toilet in your own house.

Well, my 40GB iPod 3G (mmm, not *that* 3G...) was 550€ when I bought it. The dollar wasn't that bad back then, but still it was more than $550.

Not that I'm complaining, it still works just as fine (after a battery replacement).

I was really hoping for a price drop on the smaller models. Looks like I'll just keep on waiting...
