hello everyone. I just bought an Iphone last week, and now I see this announcement of a 16 gig iphone. Should I pay the extra 100 to get the 16 gig model? Or should I wait for a 3g version to come out later in the year? Thanks

Wait for 3G. You know you'll have to pay a restocking fee if you return your week old iPhone, that or mop the store floors for the same number of days that you had it. Them are the rules, my friend.

not sure if i can (doubtful) but do you think if i got the phone in jan - i think the return date is the 18th of jan....would they let me exchange it for the 16gb?

Honestly? Not sure that amount of memory is worth the extra cash, particularily on the UK price.

Not without a better camera spec at the very least.

210 positives, 190 negatives, wow.

I can only think of two reasons someone would vote this negative.

1) Waaaah, it's not a new MacBook Pro with (insert wishlist here)!

or

2) Waaaah, Apple upgraded the 6+ month old product I just bought two weeks ago, they should have warned me!

I'm sure when the MBP is updated, all the folks who couldn't wait a few weeks after MacWorld will be whining and voting negative on that announcement. What a bunch of crybabies, it's ridiculous.

While I agree with everyone that the touch still has a capacity that is far below what it must be, a quick look at newegg's supply of SSD tells that it will not happen anytime soon

Shouldn't look to the price of SSD as a guide for costs or availability. Because I can show you devices that have 32GB of flash memory for a lot cheaper and that are readily available.

The flash chips (by themselves) in the iPhone and Touch are what you should be tracking, SSD includes extra hardware that doesn't make it into the Touch or iPhone.

What, you think just because you'll buy one it will be a instant hit? Dream on.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there hasn't been a 500 dollar iPod ever, or at least in a long while. It's a bit much to pay for an mp3 player and a browser that works at Starbucs and while your sitting on the toilet in your own house.

The 10 GB version of the iPod debuted at $500.
The 20 GB version debuted at $500.
The 40 GB iPod Photo debuted at $500.
The 60 GB iPod Photo debuted at $600.

There, you're corrected.

Hmm. I've been anxious to get an iPhone, and I was thinking of waiting for the next upgrade, but now that they've given an unremarkable space-boost to the existing version, maybe that means a real upgrade won't be coming for a while.

Eh. I'll probably get one anyway. If the next revision has such compelling new features that I'd want to switch, then I suppose it would be worth the minor loss incurred by selling the current one and buying the new one.

Yeah, I see now why global warming is coming. It's all those swanky Italians driving around town on their scooters, looking for free wifi! :rolleyes:

Oh those Italians. First the Arctic Circle-Candy incident and now this.

Whoops

wow... I literally JUST bought the 8GB version last night at the apple store.... I can't believe no one said anything. I even checked macrumors yesterday to see if there were any leaks on the 16GB version. Wow, I'm kind of upset.

If you checked this site [like I do regularly] then you would've seen in the 'Buyer's Guide' that you should wait. So I guess you didn't really look hard enough. Plus a simple google would've helped you out too.

I didn't read the entire thread, but this continues the one new product (or updated product) a week, doesn't it?

Could be an interesting year... ;)

Meh

16gb is nice, but this size will double every six months or so.
So for now I'm perfectly happy with my 8gb. :) I'm in no rush to upgrade.
I'll happily wait a couple of years, by then maybe they (apple and the third party devs) will have a few of my wish-list features implemented & released.

3G, multi megapixel camera, shutter without a 2 second delay, photo rotation-editing/cropping on phone, video & voice recording, safari "open as new page" link features, gps, voice dialing, (fix that damn incoming call interference "Galloping horse" sound), A2dp bluetooth, on phone content management (besides just videos), edge/3g itunes, ipod app with easier sorting (genre by artist or year etc), ipod app with selectable views (album view while viewing by song), bluetooth/wifi syncing, INDUCTION charging, copy/paste, a USEFUL coverflow, ogg vorbis support, SDK (iphone delicious library please?), wifi downloadable apps, longer battery-life, non-recessed headphone-jack, win-syncable notes, flash & java support, calendar syncable with any ical address (google calendar), universal landscape keyboard, "Contacts" not hidden in phone menu (since they're used for email too), maybe even universal cover-flow option (contacts as their pictures?), ability to choose portrait or left/right landscape for videos instead of left-landscape-only, downloadable podcasts ON device, crash/error reporting/log submittal ON device, push email, better speakers, more functionality in YouTube app (commenting system, etc).

Please? ^_^

I certainly didn't read the buyers guide on this site. I'm only to blame for that... still though. I did google, and there were no indications leading me to believe apple would release the newer model today.

I can't understand why people still care about this. The SDK is coming out this month. Honestly, what 3rd party app do you need so badly that dealing with the current firmware for a few weeks is so horrible?

VNC for 1, then real chat, games (add yours here)...

well...

Whine, whine, whine...

If only Apple:

(1) announced MacBook Pros today and not two weeks from now;
(2) added 3G and cut the price of a iPhone by $150;
(3) added a "real" graphics card to the MacBook;
(4) added "X" feature to the MacBook Air;
(5) timed its updates to coincide with my schedule because I am the most important person in the entire universe; and
(6) provided "Y" hardware/software/gadget for "Z" dollars.

How the news of the option of additional hard drive space is considered a negative is beyond me. The gripes are becoming annoying enough (like that Mac guy in the telly ads) that I may have to unswitch to gain back my sanity. Just kidding...I love my MacBook despite not having a "real" graphics card and not costing $300 less.

Dude, you forgot . . . I'd also like Apple to pay my taxes, get me a date with a supermodel . . . make that three, and also run all of their product decisions by me first in order to get my special blessing. :D

The reason they introduced this iPhone now is becuase the SDK is coming and they need room on the iPhone, which def sucks for anyone with a 4gb iphone or even 8gb which i have. :-(

Yea, I thought the new widgets/apps will be really small, though. I have 300 Megs still available for stuff on my iPhone...

It's just a natural progression like computers - more space.

Why is everyone complaining? On the Windows side, HP has a Windows Mobile PDA with 256 Megs for $299, then you have to run out and buy little cards for it...

Updates

Nice upgrade, for the iPhone... But I think that to seriously start using it as a replacement for the iPod it should get even more memory....

Don't worry Uncle Steve won't make us wait much longer...
MBP updates are coming soon to make everyone happy :)
Sit tight!

And hopefully it will be something more interesting than what we're all expecting...
