They're private companies, they can support or not support, what they wish. Would you like them forced to support?
Of course they should not be forced to support anything. That’s the issue. If they don’t want to support LGBT stuff that’s definitely their choice. My viewpoint is that the current administration is hostile towards anything DEI related and that’s why these companies are backing off.

Wouldn't it be nice if Apple took a break from the virtue signaling for once? How many times do they need to release an even uglier rainbow?

I'm so tired of this and the really ugly "black pride" stuff.

It would be SO much better if Apple just showcased beautiful photography once a quarter.
Would it be virtue signaling if Apple stopped supporting LGBT people?

How would we differentiate between a company that is virtue signaling and one that really does support a cause?

Is the sum of who you are just who you prefer to bang? No one said that it can't be anywhere. We're just tired of it being everywhere—and I'm including heterosexuality too.

There's so much more to it than that. But if you prefer to look at people through the lens of what they are doing in bed, then that's how you see other people.

It's called "Pride" (flags, parades, month, etc.), and not "Who People Sleep With" for a reason.

No liberal says "stop shoving it down my throat", bud. We're allies to LGBTQ causes and that slur has a homosexual-hostile connotation.

It's simply coded messaging. You'll see it all over Breitbart. To them it roughly means "I hate having to hear about this gay crap, a marriage should be between a man and a woman, I don't like F-words, etc etc..."
Similarly I often hear the statement that it’s okay to be gay but let’s not talk about sex and we don’t want to talk to kids about sex. I completely agree. But when did being gay become all about an act? It’s who you care for. It’s who you are married to. If Mom can love Dad then Mom can love Mom without talking about any details.

Glad Apple is still doing this given everything going on but damn it gets uglier every year 😂 2020 was the peak and they haven’t released a good one since.
Yeah, I was also thinking the earlier years looked better. If I were looking for a watch band, I'd look for one of those older ones.

Biden didn't flout the USSC. The SCOTUS ruled narrowly that the law Biden was attempting to use to forgive student loans was not intended for that purpose. The SCOTUS did not rule that it's unconstitutional to forgive student debt.

The Biden administration continued to look for ways to forgive student debt, but had to do so on a much smaller scale, using different laws, because it obeyed the SCOTUS ruling. It's a very false equivalence.

Oh he most certainly did. Oh my goodness that is some world class gaslighting there. This article from Reason talks about how he just cheated AND in the process, stuck the taxpayer with a huge bill.

You party people and your spinning and cherry picking blows me away. Trump unconstitutional! BAAAAD! Biden unconstitutional! Well, it's nuanced, and this, and that. Give.Me.A.Break.

Guess what. Republican Presidents try to get around the Constitution AND Democrat Presidents try to get around the Constitution. They both suck and this whole your side is for tyranny and mind is pure as the driven snow stuff is just bs.

Conservative in Florida here. No one cares. We're not some "christofascist state" or whatever other dumb statement someone wants to libel Florida with. I know a TON of conservatives—not a single one cares whether you're gay or straight. What we are tired of is constantly hearing about who people want to bang like that's a necessary topic of conversation in every single encounter (whether it's gay OR straight people). It's not a topic I need shoved in my face, or my children's face in every occasion. I've always been pro-gay. Do what you want. I couldn't care less. I was actually happy when gay marriage happened, and voted for it. But since then it's just been a continual march past acceptance into shout your sexuality. We don't need to see people dry humping each other in the streets every June to accept you—that kind of does the opposite. As for whether my kids turn out gay or straight or anything, that literally would not change my political opinion one iota, because 90% of conservatives aren't out to stop you from being gay in 2025, sorry to tell you. Maybe update your political views beyond "orange man bad" and talk to an actual conservative for once instead of calling everyone fascists.

Hi zync, did you mean to quote someone else? I never labeled Florida in that way and I certainly didn't call anyone a fascist.

Surprisingly not.

I wrote "some Americans" - you can decide for yourself if that applies to you.

Well it doesn't, and you know that, so I'm going to ask you to be a respectful adult and remove the inference that I in any way would support their beliefs.

I don't understand the militancy of some of you. I've supported the gay community for years and backed their rights openly, in this very discussion and I'm getting hostility. It makes no sense.

As they should be. DEI is toxic, it is societal poison, and damaging in countless ways. Have you looked at some of the things people were being told in the workplace? All it does is pit people against each other based on race, mostly. Those types of things are the worst ways of combating bigotry and then bringing the oppressed/oppressor things into schools? It's just toxic.

You don't need forced programming and the creation of a victim vs victimizer narrative to solve some of the bigotry that still exists.

All we need to do is maintain a system where there is equal opportunity and any discrimination is not tolerated. You cannot guarantee outcomes and you cannot engage in racism or another form of discrimination to benefit one race or group over another.

What’s wrong with having “every little subset” be included and have their own elements?
I‘ve lost track and become unwilling to engage with or mention the LG… abbreviation for fear of forgetting a „subset“.

And from a design standpoint, representing everyone with their own little element - and changing it every few years - is messy. The European Council and/or Union didn’t keep on adding stars to their flag after surpassing 12 member states either.

Five word acronyms („Accept Everyone As They Are“ or whatever) and colours are enough to represent everyone in a simplified and inclusive way. With an iconic design that can have long-lasting appeal and recognition.

The reality is, the reason why many in the LGBTQIA community are out, loud and proud is because this sentiment of "shut up about it" you hold led them to suffer in silence and be treated horribly by the hetero majority, sometimes to the point of suicide.

Nobody has ever been hostile or violent to you for kissing your heterosexual wife/girlfriend in public. Gay people born before about 2000 cannot always say the same.

Conservatives have this nasty little trait where if something hasn't happened to them yet, they cannot empathize. "Oh I started caring about the LGBTQ community when my son/daughter came out -- not before then." It's a character defect worth working on.

The fact that a company like Apple puts out products denoting who people prefer to have sex with is absolutely ridiculous and the fact that the wallpapers are literally part of the OS is so beyond crazy.

Pure ignorance of why there's a Pride month at all.
Oh do let us know why then. I mean a MONTH? This group needs 8% of a year?? for what?????? Was there some holocaust like event that occurred in history we should all know about? Absolute insanity.

I understand your sentiment but they were oppressed (and worse) for quite a long time and I think it falls in line with the Stonewall Uprising. I'm not huge on everyone getting their own month and this or that and I think every single one of these months is over exposed, but I'm not sure it's fair to call it "insanity". Celebration isn't mandatory.

It's insanity. I'm gen-x, I grew up in the 90s, gay people did whatever they wanted, no one cared. celebrate all you want, get with whoever you want, do whatever you want.. but you don't need a pride month or watch bands. Thats crazy.

it is under attack but you have to wait for the attack? I personally think let the state marry any consenting adults, just don't force it on religious communities, so if a church, mosque or synagogue want to keep to the tenants of their faith, don't try and force them. As far as I am aware marriage is a religious thing as well, in its origins at least. Not sure why anyone would want to get married if not for religious reasons.
There's a big change in legal status in most places, especially in the US, when people get married. In some places married partners, regardless of gender, can visit their partners when they're deathly ill in the hospital, where they may get refused otherwise if they're unmarried and gay. (Sometimes you have to sue, even then, but at least you have more legal standing, and hospitals used to back down over the bad publicity.) Or apply to become a second legal guardian or adoptive parent for a pre-marriage child of their new spouse's. In a lot of places gay people still don't have those rights if they "only" had a commitment ceremony or union or whatever. It's complicated, and at least in some US states in the past, married people who were same gender only had those rights because they were married outside of the state in question, because the states recognized each others' marriage rights even if they didn't have them natively. It was a really complicated thing back when Vermont started recognizing them, actually. And, of course, there have been people who've gotten divorced when they came out, started new families, but when they died the ex-spouses fought in court over the estate because they weren't legally remarried, regardless of whatever will or handfast ceremony they had.

By comparison, straight unmarried couples get many of these rights by tradition.

Remember all this next time some court clerk claims they have the right to refuse to grant a license on personal religious grounds.

Oh yes! I have pictures of me in shirts with blocks of colors like this from the 80’s. Now I’m going to have to get one of these bands.
It reminds me of Mondrian's Neoplasticism, though I think that mostly stuck to primary colors. I personally probably wouldn't get a watch band (not with my skin tones, and I don't want attention drawn to my watch anyway), but I'd get a tablet cover with it, or a sticker that covers my laptop lid.

In the 90s people were using that F word and making jokes about gay people pretty constantly, including on Seinfeld and Friends, rap music, games, tv you name it.

We’ve progressed and it’s more accepted now BECAUSE of pride. You’re under no obligation to participate in Pride but you don’t understand Apple’s employee and customer demographics if you don’t understand the pride bands and wallpapers.

I graduated HS in 2002 and 0 kids in my graduating class came out until well into or after college. Fast forward to today: My daughter is 10 and all the kids are fine with other kids being gay. Many kids have two moms or dads. And this is suburban, conservative Ohio, not California.

There’s no joking or slurs or shaming like we experienced. But that’s because pride paved the way for these youngsters. They have it better than we ever did.

UK, finished secondary school in 2008, zero out gay/trans people in my graduating cohort but I know of about a dozen people (me included!) who came out during the following decade.

The environment is a lot safer and more permissive now and it's not because people just kinda passively and organically got better. Things changed because activists kept doing the work in spite of tedious losers telling us that we were being Hysterical or Too Sensitive or that Things Are Already Fine You Don't Need To Keep Doing This.

The fact that these conversations continue to happen at all proves that we still got a long way to go.
